I find that when I up the fats in my diet I loose faster. Yes I add it to my GM. Also my skin & hair really improve when I use it internally and externally.:p
During a plateau I upped my fats and I started loosing again right away!
However everyone is different. Some my have a slow down. Just stry it. I would give it a month to see how your body reacts. Rememebering that your body does not loose steadily everyday especialy not during your cycle.

Thanks for your reply :)
How much is best to add to my green smoothies? For example how much would go in one big pint size glass worth?

Does putting coconut oil in smoothies mask the taste of the coconut oil, or does its taste overpower the smoothie? I find plain coconut oil to be quite... unappetizing, to say the least...

I too am not a coconut fan. yes you will taste it. When I add it I find I like it in orange/green smoothis vs red berry flavours. I love it in Pina Colada type flavours with pineapple, oranges and banana.
The longer I'm raw the more I like it!
A great bit of advice I recieved has been if you are making a big smoothie, when you are done pour most in a separate container and add the undesirable tasting ingredients into the little remaing bit - then wash down with the remaining yummy bit of smoothie!

Your body is very smart and can easily recognize a "good" fat from a bad fat. If you use the virgin coconut oil, your body will use it for fuel and also metabolize stored fat. It does the same with flax oil and Udo oil (a blend of omega 3,6 & 9). Don't use the processed coconut oil that has no smell or no flavor (you'll know the difference also by the price; don't bother purchasing the cheap stuff unless you are using it to remove make-up or use as a moisturizer) Bruce Fife wrote a book about using coconut oil. There are other books you can find doing a search about coconut oil. Whenever I use this type of oil, I lose weight (and keep it off now that I am at my goal weight.) I never counted it as part of my oil for the day and I lost weight every week except for 1). Everyone else that I started with had a much more difficult time losing. They would plateau or lose only a few ounces.

so how does coconut oil work differently than flax or Udo oil in order to inspire weight loss?
i'm really curious about this as i've come to a plateau and i'd like to try... so just putting a couple tbsp of coconut oil in my green smoothie everyday will help me start to lose weight again? SuzyQ- how did you get your daily intake of coconut oil/ how much?
any brands that you can recommend? i live in tokyo so i don't have a great variety of coconut oil but hopefully i can find something decent
thanks in advance

This is interesting because there are so many different opinions on this! I read a book by Doug Graham and he is in favor of low fats. I read David Wolfe's book and he seems to encourage higher fat - I will wati to see what Revell says!!

I'm sorry if I misled you. I don't use coconut oil everyday. I use a variety of oils: extra virgin coconut oil, Udo oil and flax oil. If I am drinking a smoothie that has pineapple in it, for instance, I would use the coconut oil as it would compliment the pineapple flavor. I don't mind coconut flavor, so I would use it with bananas, mangos, the above mentioned pineapple, oranges, anything tropical. I use the flax oil and Udo oil as salad dressings or for a smoothie when I don't want coconut flavor.
To answer the question about what brand, I went to the best healthfood store in the area and asked them. They only sell extra virgin organic expeller pressed.
It is rich in medium chain triglycerides, no trans fatty acids and no hydrogenation. The brand I bought is Jarrow formulas. You can do lots of research on the internet and there are no doubt many to choose from. Another thing, I didn't use 2 tablespoons of coconut oil a day. I used about 1 tablespoon. It gave me the flavor & enough good fat for my system. I really have to watch the fat; more than 1 1/2 tablespoons a day and I am in the restroom too much. No thank you!
I can tell you that I do lose weight when I use essential oils.

If you want to burn fat, you have to eat fat, about a tbls a day. That is what my raw coach told me. As for coconut oil, I love coconuts, so the flavor does not bother me. I also use it as a moisturizer. I apply it all over and then rinse off in the shower. I do that about twice a week. I do not use soap on those days. It does wonders for my skin. I get my coconut oil, raw and unrefined from http://wildernessfamilynaturals.com/. It costs I think $28.00 a gallon. It is also great for removing make-up and sun burn. Which I happen to have after sitting outside for a couple of hours yesterday. Keep forgetting that at this altitude the sun is more intense, even when it is only 50 degrees outside. :o

okay, i'm still pretty confused about how this works! i'm already eating fats throughout the day, i use olive oil/ flax seed oil in dressings and nut pates etc. so if i'm already getting my tbsp in those, adding oil to my green smoothie in the morning won't really make a difference right?
i went to the grocery store today and i don't think i can find the right kind of coconut oil anywhere, so i think i'll have to stick to the oils i have now anyway

You don't need coconut oil. If you are getting fats with other oils, then I wouldn't worry about it. I use coconut oil because I like the taste of it and the fact that I use it externally and well as internally. If I have avos or other oils, then I skip the coconut oil in my GS. Everyone is different and what works for one doesn't always work for another. Do what is best for you and what you are most comfortable with. :)

So if I am not using other oils daily and eating mainly fruit and veg, then adding the coconut oil to my GS will be good for me while also promoting weight loss? :)
The eat fat to lose fat theory/fact (no ignorance intended:o ) intrigues me.
