Is a Vitamix really worth it and what model is the best?

I think it is! I mean, I used a standard blender for a while before I finally got a VM and the difference was like night and day! Then, when my blades had issues (totally MY fault) and VM replaced them under my warranty with no problem but during the interim, I had to go back to my old blender...it was AWFUL! I couldn't wait to get my VM back up and going and once I did, it felt so good...blending stuff with much greater ease and faster.

So, if you can I highly recommend getting one!

Now as for which is best, I can't vouch for as I've never used the newer model...I got the 4500 from Alissa's store. Many here love the 4500 too but there have been some who say there is no comparison between the 4500 and the 5200 (naturally these are people who have gone from owning a 4500 to owning a 5200) but I still feel that I get just as good results from my 4500...I'm happy with it! :)

For the last time ~ YES!!!!

I don't think many of us have had more than one and can compare the different models. I've had mine for over 10 years.

I have the 5000, and I LOVE it!! It is absolutely worth every penny we spent on it, and when the sad day comes that it goes to appliance heaven, I will immediately buy another without flinching!!!!

You can do a payment plan with them, you know - you have to call them to get it set up but basically you pay it out in 3 months. That's what I did!

The VM is an essential part of my raw food journey. Daily I make a green drink in my VM that I don't think I could make without the VM and it is a very important part of my diet. I put some ice and enough water into my VM to just cover the blades and turn it on slow speed. Then I feed an entire 9 oz package of greens in through the top. I turn up the speed to high and blend until smooth, which only takes a minute. The VM groans a little while I am feeding in the greens but it chugs right through the work load and makes about a quart of thick, smooth, green juice to drink. I don't see how I could eat that many greens without the VM. I think any model VM you get will be OK as I have yet to hear of anyone who is dissatisfied with their VM.

I have the 5000. If someone said I had to give up my VM or the kids it would be a hard decision, ha ha ha:p !

I second EZ Rider. I fill my VM with heavy greens i.e. collards, kale (dino, green & red), spinach & parsley packing them down with my fist then toss in freshly juiced greens and blend! It takes only seconds to reduce the fiber to smooth bliss!

Now you're talking! It's nice to see someone else who's really serious about greens!

I definitely feel the same wy, with regard to adding juiced greens to the solid ingredients - that way, there's no water to 'dilute' the potency, it's just greens, greens, greens! :)

If my Vita-Mix died today, I would order another one tomorrow. They guarantee some of the parts to last 7 years. I called with a small problem and the guy on the phone had me turn the blender on. He said, "It sounds like this is the part you need." They sent it to me for free because I had "only" had mine for 2 years! And they didn't charge me for shipping either. I was amazed..............I mean, who does that? Vita-Mix does! It comes with a great recipe book as well. I don't know if Vita-mix has gift certificates, but you could ask! And if your birthday is coming up, your family & friends could pool their $$ and get you one. (Just an idea)

I'm sorry to say this, and I'm going to duck from flying objects, but NO a Vitamix is not worth it, a Blendtec is.... lookout here comes the fallout lol!

Seriously though, I'm just biased, but any high powered quality blender is worth it. Best investment I've ever made.

i've only had mine for a week and its TOTALLY worth it. before i got it i thought my blender was pretty ok... nope. not so.

mine's a 5000 i got used through vitamix. the thing makes JUICE. it makes ICE CREAM. it makes NUT BUTTER. it makes a really serious green smoothie in a matter of seconds. it turns cashews into yogurt. and if you're of the cooked persuasion you can make hot soups in it (??????). not that any of us are but isn't that crazy?

rawererin: that's kind of funny that you mention the Blendtec because I just saw it on tv on Country Fried Home Videos. They were demonstrating how it grinds up marbles and metal and credit cards! My boyfriend was like, "I want that blender." It looked good but I want a Vitamix.

Can a Vitamix really make nut butter? That would be awesome because store-bought raw nut butters are stupidly expensive.

It's kind of funny, my mom had a Vitamix given to her long before I went raw. She had wanted one for a long time because it can do so many things (she's not raw by the way), and a friend finally bought one for her. I didn't realize how powerful it is and how big of a deal it is and now I'm really jealous. I want to steal it from her sometimes but I know I'll get my own. Thanks for reminding me about the payment plan, Amberstorm!

I can't afford to buy a Vitamix, but I do have a food processor now which came with a blending blade- do you all think using the food processor to make green smoothies would be more efficient than using my standard blender??

A Vitamix can make nutbutter; however, I've read where a Champion juicer is much easier and better at doing the job. I've yet to try the juicer, but next time I will.
