I love mangoes and would like to know if the ones I get at the Asian markets are okay to eat. During mango season I eat 5-7 or more a day. I love them but am concerned about them being sprayed.

Can anyone help please.

Thanx

organic = not sprayed
anything else... = sprayed.

A good vegetable wash can rid much of the exterior pollutants.

according to my chart...mangos are in the "least sprayed" category.

How do you prepare them? By that I mean how to you get to the mango goodness inside? I peel the skin off with a knife and then do slices of the fruit, but it always makes a gigantic mess. If you're eating 5-7 a day, what's your secret to getting at the good stuff?

I love mangos.......I bought two cases this weekend at my area farmers market for $6.00/case...one had 20, one had 16.....yum!! I use the Oxo cutter...makes a world of difference in how easy they are to fix. I freeze them too for use in raw smoothies and puddings. Made the mango cobbler this weekend which was tasty. My fav. way is just to eat them fresh over the kitchen sink.
The cutter leaves you with two "cheeks" that you peel and cut and the pit which I gnaw on over the sink to get the extra flesh off.....deelicious!!!

OMG!!! MUST have mango cutter!!!!!!!!!!! I love mangoes but hate that whole cutting away from the pit part! This is ingenious!

I love it...the right tool for the right job makes ALL the difference! I bought it at William~Sonoma...I think about $12.00...worth every penny and more!

One trick...cut a little slice off the bottom first so it will stand up straight when you use the cutter.

I have one and it's a waste of money IMO. It sooo often goes off centre and then it won't cut anything cause the pit is in the way.

I just use a knife.

I am thinking though... of using my avocado slicer* on one... as it works on papaya!!!

(*once you cut it open... removing the flesh from the skin)

Hmnnnnnnnnn..do you have the OXO cutter? Mine is so sharp I am always very careful when washing so I don't cut myself. Sometimes, if the skin is a little tough I will press the cutter into it, remove and then score those two little indentations with a knife...put the cutter back on and it sides right thru.
Whatever works~:)

Currently we have organic mango on offer..I am buying as many as I can..but I do eat conventional ones without fear!

Enjoy..eat your juicy mango ..or 7 :D

I love them as a treat, currently juice feasting..mm good juice but...bit pulpy needs a lot of straining

However..just for eating..blissss.. bite right in and get messy!

I eat a TON of mangoes, most of them non organic and have for years! Enjoy them. I don't worry too much about produce with thick skins that we don't eat.
