View Full Version : Revvell? -- Thumbs up for alternating hot and cold shower!
I'm not 100% sure if it was Revvell or not, so please correct me if it was someone else! I recently read someone's suggestion to alternate hot and cold water in the shower (and to enter when the water is still cold).
I actually have managed for a while now to regularly do 15-30 seconds cold water in my showers, but this is totally different! It made me feel SO invigorated, and it's crazy -- the cold water didn't even really feel cold after I did it a few times.
Now I'm out of the shower and my body is so warm. I'm sure my circulation got a nice boost!
(Of course, I'm sure it helped a bit that I was oil pulling in the shower AND dry skin brushed right before -- but I do both of those every day already. :))

That's the test to know if someone has really done it. Usually I start with hot and end with cold ~ about 7-10 rounds. Feels good, eh? :)

Ah -- start with hot! I bet that would have been easier! And I only did it 4-5 times, I think...
I'm totally into it, so I'll try it again entering when it's hot and 7-10 times. What a great idea! :)

I do think it's easier to get into a hot shower... more chance you'll continue doing it. Kuddos to you if you actually stepped into a cold shower first. *shudder*
Sounds like you got the bennies with 4-5 times. That's GREAT!!!!

I must admit I've tried this and haven't had the discipline to continue it, of late, but you've inspired me to start doing it again.
This technique was highly-recommended by one of my favourite naturopathic writers, Dr. Bernard Jensen. I believe he refers to it as 'Sitz bathing'. Mikhail Tombak ('Can We Live 150 Years?') also recommends them. As I recall, Jensen recommends that one play the cold shower water all the way up the right leg, to the heart, and then all the way up the left leg to the heart - always travelling towards the heart. I believe he also stresses that one should not rub oneself down with a towel immediately after leaving the cold shower, since this undermines the effect of the procedure, and necessitates one repeating the cold shower again.
I can't recall which of my many Jensen books I read this in, but if this kind of thing interests anyone, then I thoroughly recommend Jensen's books, even though they are not specifically vegan. They contain so much wisdom and in such an accessible, warm and friendly style. His compassion for his patients shines through on every single page and I only wish I could have met him before he passed on.

Revvell,
Thank you for sharing the info. I'm working on healing a pinched sciatica and ending my shower with alternating cold has definately made a difference. Makes me feel more invigorated, too.

Glad it helped; I'm going through the same thing now. Did you read my post on using a tennis ball in the glutes? Place on floor, put glute on; roll over.
Remember drinking lots of room temp water as well. I'm finding that makes a difference and also, if there are concerns about $$$. Amazing how we create pain in our bodies by worries in our haids.

Gosh I just wonder if something's wrong with me. As with a sauna when afterwards I poured cold water over me, I tried to do this with the hot and cold, and when I turn on the cold from the hot my legs give way and my body receives a horrible shock. Then I can't breathe for several seconds. Wonder why? It's frightening. I'll never try it again.

Just because it happened once, doesn't mean it will happen again.
I've had many people tell me they "tried" being vegetarian once and became weak; I've had many people tell me they've "tried" doing yoga and it wasn't for them (may be the teacher, style, time of life, etc.); I've had people tell me they've "tried" LOTS of things ONCE and would never "try" it again. Well, 'k. Fine with me. :)

You're very welcome Lady.
I've had no problems with sciatica today. Been eating raw; hanging out in the jacuzzi with Himself; doing some squatting... feeling gooooood!!! Was thinking tennis ball myself but, doesn't seem to be a need at this point. Please let me know how/if it works for you.

I can't speak to benefits of alternating cold/hot shower, but can vouch for the tennis ball therapy. It does work!
