just curious as to if your metabolism returns to normal after the master cleanse? like what happens if you do the 40 days? i know that it HAS to be broken properly with orange juice or other juices for 1 day out of every 4 that you were on the cleanse, so 10 days of juice for a 40 day cleanse. and then to also very gradually and carefully add whole, raw vegan foods back into your life. i did a search here and found a few threads, but they were pretty old and was just curious if anyone who as recently completed that long or close to that long of a cleanse could shed some insight as to how their metabolism was affected after the cleanse. any info is greatly appreciated. thanks.

Hi there, I completed a 40 day MC on 2/8. I had straight, fresh squeezed orange juice for 1 1/2 days and then I gradually started eating raw foods with probiotics. Very simple raw foods, like nori and shredded kale and gradually worked up to incorporating fats, like avocado after about day 5 post cleanse. I also had a green smoothie every day for breakfast, for at least 10 days. Honestly, after about 2 weeks there were some days when I would eat too much food, but it was all raw.
So regarding metabolism which was your question...it has improved drastically. I've always had great metabolism when I exercise - I used to run. But when I didn't exercise, it was about average. Now I've noticed that my body is now burning fuel like never before no matter what I eat or whether or not I exercise. (The colon cleanse I'm sure has a lot to do with this - clearing mucus, parasites, impacted waste etc.) I do walk 30-60 minutes per day and I try to squeeze in some yoga, just a beginner, a couple of days a week. But seriously, I've continued to drop pounds since finishing the cleanse 6 weeks ago. My body has completely changed how it metabolizes nutrients in my body and it's great.
Initially your metabolism generally slows down with any long fast or cleanse. One of the reasons it's a good idea not to gorge on food and break the fast/cleanse very carefully. This by far is the hardest part of the process I think because once you start eating again, wow, food tastes so wonderful. I believe because I followed the protocol pretty closely regarding breaking the MC, my metabolism went into high gear in latter weeks. My body is changing daily. I've also been juice feasting the past few days and drinking a lot of green juices - I'm quite sure this has a lot to do with it too.
My brain is a bit foggy tonight (detox)...hope this makes sense. I probably shouldn't be typing right now...lol.

Wow ! 40 Days ! Good for you !
This sounds so incredibly good to me as to what I would like to achieve: solid introduction into 95-100% raw foods, spiritual and mental clarity, 35-40 pound weight loss, and increased metabolism.
What scared me on another forum was about thinning hair, and how one woman who went 40 days lost her hair 3 months after doing the MC for 40 days. Ever hear of such a thing or is it an urban myth?

I always find that my metabolism is much better after long fasts. When I 'm getting near the end of my fasting period sometimes (like with the mc for example) I'll just drink it every 3 or 4 hours when is how I usually eat my meals and that seems to keep my metabolism on track.

You should do it then. ;) There's no reason you cannot.
I heard about the hair loss thing and I remember reading the reason...had a lot to do with mineral depletion or some other health problems this person had prior to cleansing????? Don't quote me though. I think you have to simply pay attention to your own body's signals and not worry about stuff like that or it will do you in and keep you from completing your own goals.
40 days was easy really. The difficult part was coming off of the cleanse and pacing myself...not going nuts when it was time to eat solid food. Your taste buds just explode when they're healed.
Good luck to you and hope you reach your goals.

Me too. I like to drink them about every 3 hours too. I eat every 2-3 hours generally.

You're so very welcome. It's a beautiful thing...this healing process. I hope that you reach all of your goals and I'm sure you will.
Have a great weekend everyone.

RawHeaven,
Weren't you bored with just the lemon/lime-ade? I was considering maybe during the MC for about 10-15 days and then switching to fresh juice with some liquid minerals.
Then I learned about juice feasting -- but with the price of organic vegetables plus all of the work of juicing. While I understand the huge benefits of it ... I dunno ... 40 days MC is sounding better and better with perhaps some wheatgrass shots thrown in for good measure.
Anyway, you've been an inspiration.

Nope, I had greater healing goals that kept me motivated. I actually love the taste of the lemonade. I can imagine if you do not, makes it a bit tougher. You can make lemon-limeade too, try that. It's really a mental process above and beyond everything else, you've got to wrap your mind around what you're doing before you begin. If you really do not like the lemonades, there are other cleanses and fasts. Try picking up Jeremy Safron's Dining from An Empty Bowl, he offers many cleanses/fasts including the master cleanse. Take care and have a great weekend.

Thanks. I don't mind the taste at all. Just concerned if I'd get bored.
But, as you said, that's mental.
I noticed that Priscilla is looking for a MC buddy to join her for a 40 day cleanse, so I take that as a sign that it's go for me.
We start tomorrow.

today was my 12th day on the master cleanse. i have been doing really well and am definitely feeling better. i hve noticed that i only get hungry at night (around 10-11pm), but its not too bad. i agree that it is something that you have to wrap your mind around and absolutely be prepared for the emotional part more so than anything else. (just my opinion). but all in all its been going great. i plan to do probably another 30 days. so if anyone wants to start a buddy system or thread thats cool with me. anyways, thanks for all the info and i wish everyone the best on this adventure and raw living after this! :D

Hey there. I just wanted to give you some good news. I did a 40-day fast once. I had never eaten raw, and was used to the SAD diet. I did, in fact, lose a lot of hair after the fast. It started about a month after I started eating again, which was raw, and it lasted about 6 weeks. I was devastated and cried so many nights not understanding it.
BUT, it all grew back much thicker once it stopped falling out. I always had thin spots at my temples, but now it's super thick. AND my hair is softer than it has ever been.
In fact, when my hair was growing back, my friend (who knew what was going on) was picking on me and said that all of the new hairs caused me to look like I had a mini mohawk going down my part.
You'll be fine. I don't understand why it happened, but all I know is that it did, and it grew back.
