View Full Version : How dried out is onion bread suppose to be?

I just made my first ever batch of onion bread and it is so yummy! However, when I took it out of the dehydrator, the edges were very dry and some other places weren't as dry. They weren't soggy wet, just a tiny bit damp to the touch. I thought if I put it back in the machine to dry, the very dry part would get too dry. I put it in the fridge, wrapped up in waxed paper and it got a little more sticky, I think because of the flax seeds. So basically, if I want to store it in a glass jar on the shelf, does it have to be totally dry like a cracker? I love the bread-like feel of what I made. Thanks for your help. I am brand new at this! (I did a search on onion bread, but didn't find what I was looking for.)

Mine is moist throughout and not dry on the edges. It has the feel of a grain bread. I form mine into little squares that are just the right size for making sandwiches. I have had no luck at cutting dehydrated things so I just make them the size I want to start with.
If you prefer a cracker, you can dehydrate it further to get it crisp.

I just got my dehydrator and have not made the onion bread yet, but I did read that after so many hours you turn it over, remove the nonstick sheet and continue to dry.

You might be able to do it in the oven, but it would likely not be raw then. You really need the dehydrator for its low temp and the air flow.
