i hit my halfway goal a month ago, which is great but now i've been stuck there for a month! so i'm a little frustrated. i dont want to do a fast right now but what else can i do to break through this plateau? i've been working out and drinking my green smoothies daily. i'm thinking that maybe i'm eating too much food still, that it is keeping me the same weight.
my usual day:
gs for breakfast, drink that until i get done work at 2
big salad when i get home for lunch (i'm thinking maybe make a smaller salad)
lately i havent been eating a dinner, i'll have some nuts or fruit. if i do eat dinner it's usually a smaller salad.
i'd like to hear what ya'll have done to break through plateaus. thanks!

A green smoothie and a salad and that's too much? If you give up anything more you'll become a breatharian.
Methinks you'd do better to have 5-6 small meals; keeps the metabolism going.

Yes I agree totally with Revvell, smaller more frequent meals may help.

From my experience, I had to increase the amount of times that I ate. So if I made a big shake I would divide it into two meals and drink the second during work. My lunch divided into two and the other half during a break. After work eat another half a meal and dinner another half. This helped change my metabolism along with cardio, A walk or job after dinner. I used to eat a about six meals a day but all halves. I would snack if I got hungry but not too many nuts. If I felt that I would plateau, then I would bump up my cardio.
Just don't get discouraged!

hah. my salads are huge! my typical salad i put in a mixing bowl and have spinach, mixed greens, flax seeds, sunflower seeds, red pepper, onion, tomato, nori, dulse, sprouts, avacado. for dressing i use acv, olive oil and sea salt.
perhaps i should split that up into 2 or 3 salads and eat them throughout the day?

I agree with Revell also. You may be eating a lot quantity wise but you might want to just for a day or so count your calories to make sure you are at least getting a minimum of 1000 per day, because if you drop consistently below that your body will go into starvation mode and hang on to everything including the excess you are trying to get rid of. Also, I believe there is another thread that I've read lately that talks about making sure you are eating enough fat to encourage weight loss.

i've been in a plateau for MONTHS. what made a difference for me was upping my fats. i added avocados to my smoothies or meal AND i added flax oil to my smoothie every day. it's made a difference!

Interesting to increase fats. I finally am down 3/4 pound in one week. I go to the gym often, so this is slow losing for sure. I do the stair stepper for about 15-20 minutes and it is a killer. I must say however I am looking skinny at least to my eyes. My personal trainer had me run the gym 3 times, stopping in between for 30 seconds and I was lightening. I felt like I was in a marathon. It was morning and better time of my run. I forgot to ask him what to do when the gym is taken. I suppose I will have to run as I can earlier in the AM aside from my normal workout. Didn't do tons of fat this week.
Wonder if flax seeds would take place of the flax oil? I got plenty of seeds around here.

I also agree on eating smaller meals more frequently. Last time I went raw I found that if I ate something every two hours (even if I wasn't hungry) that the weight just melted away and I couldn't believe it. It doesn't have to be a "meal", it could simply be a banana, then an apple, then a salad for lunch, then a handful of nuts, then another fruit then dinner etc.
I don't think you can eat "too much" on raw.

is to increase fats, not cut back. Fats are used to hold toxins and other strange things the liver can't digest. To get rid of the bad stuff, you need enough fat in the blood stream to the toxic laden fat can be replaced with good fat and the toxic laden fat thrown out through the digestive system. When I increase good fats - from veggies - I loose weight.

that's intresting. i think i'm getting enough fats in my diet. i use olive oil on my salads and eat an avacado almost every day, if not every day. i also eat nuts, usually almonds.

the flax oil does wonders... it has for me. ;) it won't hurt ya to try it... you have nothing to lose... but fat!!!
*you need healthy fats to release bad fat*

Whoa... if I were ingesting what you were eating I'd be skin and bones... UNLESS, my body decided to jump into 'starvation mode', slowing down its metabolism and thus plateauing me- which is what Revvell was leaning toward, I believe. I definately think her advice is on point... Keep the engines going, add fuel to your fire every so often; don't slow it down! And make sure you get an array of nutrients;)

I get frustrated with this too - I eat till I'm full, and people tell me I'm not eating enough....I up everything and eat more, and people tell me I'm eating too much for weight loss. I think my body is in starvation conservation mode, and is choosing to be very efficient with the calories I give it, because I take in around 1400-1500 a day, get in a hour of cardio and a little weight training per day, and I still have 20 pounds I'd like to erase...so it's a tough issue, especially if you have a past like mine where you starved alot and shut your metabolism DOWN. I haven't read anything that says that you can INCREASE your metabolism back up from it's starvation mode, but if anything can do it, it should be the good nutrition that raw provides.

smilingrawdancer- after briefing your blog, I have a feeling that you are either in starvation mode, or aren't getting a good balance... Where are your vegetables? Your leafy greens? You seem to be eating VERY little, and mostly fruits... Some people can thrive as fruitarians, and all the more power to them, but many people cannot. I'm not trying to impose callously, just trying to make some friendly suggestions:) Just relax, breathe, and eat your healthy foods... There's nothing to fear about raw vegetables;)

I actually eat alot more vegetables than my blog shows - and I rarely update my blog, too :)
But STILL, I could stand to up my veggies...I just really don't like most raw veggies. I like: cauliflower, tomatoes, carrots, greens, snap peas, broccoli, celery...but other than that it's not fun to munch on veggies. It was SO EASY to eat tons of veggies when i was cooking, because I love cooked veggies and they tasted good without oils etc. Sometimes I wonder if I should just add back in cooked veggies to get MORE of them - but I never do, because...well, I never do.
I ALSO think though I that I probably underestimate my calorie intake, because I significantly upped my calorie intake for awhile with coconut oil etc, and I gained even more weight. So I'm kind of lost.
Didn't mean to highjack thread!

Smiling,
How are you counting calories? I eat tons of fresh produce. I don't eat much avocado, but do have olive oil on my salad. This week I ate some cashews almost daily and lost 3/4 pound.
Gotta also figure out the "metabolism" game of revving it up more. I do eat several times a day too.

I didn't get a chance to read everyones post but I have to say that I had to give up the scale, for some reason I have been losing inches faster then lbs and being to connected to the scale at least for me caused to much stress.
my advice is to step away from the scale.
I'm sure there is other great advice above but giving up the scale was one of the best things I could have done.

I count cals with fitday :)

I agree with increasing the raw fats. I've been eating alot of raw almond butter and the fat is melting off me slowly. I'm not too sure why this is as many say that you are what you eat, but in this case it's totally off.

Hey You Divine Being..
Plateaus are normal...really.
Some suggestions...
1.more frequent meals
2.minerals
3.variety of greens and sea vegetables
4.ionized or remineralized water
5.hemp proteins
6.flax, hemp and rice bran oils
Minerals. Minerals. Minerals.
These are all really good natural sources...these are all very powerful.

Chlorophyll is sooooo super important. If you are serious about this start juicing or blending a pound of greens a day. Those big tubs of greens at the store are one pound.
Juice Feasting is a great way to initiate your body to do some "house cleaning"...Balance, Cleanse, Alkalize and Rehydrate. 4 Liters of low glycemic juice a day and some natural supplements. You will shed weight, your body will balance and reverse any health concerns. Truly life transforming. david Rainoshek teaches this method.

My fav green juice...
half a head of celery chopped
half a cucumber chopped
3 handfuls of dark greens
2-3 cups of water or cool tea
Blend (thats right blend) and strain through a nut milk bag or thin mesh cloth. Quick. Easy. Green Juice. YUM.

EATING every 90-120 minutes while awake
Grazing if necessary
Fat 4-6x per day. Including nut btuters and more avo, not just a sprinkle of olive oil on your salad. My best weight loss has come with eating 2-3 avos in a day and cashew butter daily.
When changing exercise routine or deitary intake allow each change 2weeks for the bodies adjustment
Know that you body has cyclic memory so resetting the metablism takes days sometimes weeks
Distilled H2O intake of around 80 oz daily
Greater variation with whole fruits, eaten individually not just in smoothies

This is intersting because I am going through a similar situation. Not the same - as I have not lost one iota of weight!! I have been 100% for 5 weeks now and today i got on the scale - and nothing! I have been exercising ( i am a personal trainer so I have knowlege of exercise and I am training hard!) The interesting thing is - in the beginning I was making several of Alissas recipes and eating coconut icecream at night - I cut that out and ate simple meals and decreased the fat almost entirely and actuall gained 2 pounds!!!!!! So - I am taking the wonderful advice you were given on this board and upping my fats - we can do this!

i too have a past of starving myself. when i was younger. i also binge ate. i hadnt thought about it affecting my metabolism. i am at the same weight i was 5 yrs ago when i was going through that. it's like my body held onto the memories of that and is freaking out now that i'm back to that weight.
and i'm frustrated because i eat! i definatly dont go hungry. i'm feel like i'm eating enough, but i think i am eating too big a meal at once instead of throughout the day. and from what i read, i guess that is slowing me down. also, not only do i weigh myself periodically, i do take my measurements and they havent changed the past month either.
so i'm guess i'm going to start eating pretty much all day long but smaller things. hopefully that works.

Yes, eat smaller, more frequent meals, switch up your exercise routine a little bit (but make sure your still getting in your cardio somehow). If you lift weights, that's great but don't expect to lose all the weight you want right away because you're building muscle. Do not eat less! Your body needs the fuel to keep your metabolism going and give you energy for exercise.

if you're a night eater (like loads of women), you may be over-grazing at night. i made a rule that i can't eat after 8pm. i just started it and i get so cranky but i think i can train myself to stop the disco-binging.
i lost 2 lbs already.
