I always considered myself a food addict and even went to a 12-step group for that, but I was always, always hungry and just hanging on. I never could keep my weight under control.
I think now the problem is that I am addicted to cooked, devitalized foods, like a smoker to tobacco or an alcoholic to alcohol. When I eat raw, I do not crave foods. I do get hungry, and then I eat, but I am not binging or stuffing myself. My caloric intake is way down, not because of trying to restrict, but because I just don't have that constant hungry gnawing feeling with raw.
It makes a huge difference to eat raw.

I have been having the same issues. I think I figured it out. I have been mineral deprived. I listened to a podcast with David Wolf about minerals. What he said struck home. Even though I have been raw for 4 months I still did not have enough minerals. I had been on the SAD diet for so long my body was absorbing all the nutrients. My body felt hungry because it wanted more to make up for my poor diet. I got a mineral supplement that was made from ocean water (which has all 92 minerals natural that the body needs). It has been a blessing. I am not hungry all the time anymore.

ah, my long lost twin! I have battled food addiction for 28 years, since (at least) the age of 5. I was raw from Sept-Feb, then fell off the wagon. I have binged for the last month. Even ONE BITE of cooked food makes me binge uncontrollably. Today I have been raw. Today I feel centered and calm. Today I will stay raw. Tomorrow I will do the same, but I won't think about it til I get there.
My whole blog has been pretty much about my battle with cooked food addiction. When I am raw I can eat when I am hungry, eat til I am satisfied, and stop when I want. Cooked food is like heroin to me and I want to stay "sober", so as of today I am back to 100% raw, no exceptions. :)

I feel the same way! I could never control my eating and always was hungry and thinking about food until i went all raw! I feel like it's miraculous! I'm 42 and have never felt free of my need to eat constantly until now!

Oooh man... I hope this happens to me!!!! This is one reason I am turning to raw... I'm hoping it will help me find balance and learn to regard food simply as fuel. I can be a compulsive over-eater at times... Funny thing is, aside from the stomach bloat, I have a fast metabolism and hail from thin parents so externally I can get away with it for the most part, but internally, boy does it stink sometimes:rolleyes:

Raw does help get rid of the cravings.
