I LOVE okra. If you haven't tried it raw, it's delicious raw too. Other okra lovers...any raw ideas that you can think of? I'd love recipes. Can't wait for okra season (can you tell I'm a Texan at heart?).

I'm so glad you posted this! I loved cooked okra but have been hesitant to try it raw. I'll give it a try! :)
As good as cooked okra is RAW okra is 100 times better and so very pretty when sliced and tossed in a salad.

I was loving it at first with just a bit of olive oil & sometimes a bit of salt. Then for some reason I didn't like it as much so I started making an okra salad.
Okra Salad
Okra, chopped
Garlic, chopped
Onion, chopped
Olive Oil
Coconut Vinegar
Optional: Lemon/Lime juice or Apple Cider Vinegar, Spices, Salt
Don't know why but the raw coconut vinegar works real well when normally I can't stand the vinegar.
Other recipes I haven't tried yet:
Okra Gumbo
Okra
Tomatoes
Corn
Parsley
Onion
Garlic
Salt
Spices
Olive Oil
Blend.
Okra Smoothie
5-6 Okra
Lemon or Lime Juice
1 Garlic clove
Kale to taste
Blend.

Any ideas as to how to make raw version of "fried okra?"

Not something I would ever buy again unless just for okra as it's quite disgusting. Can't even explain the taste other than it's not like coconut or ACV. May have it for years at this rate. Could be an acquired taste.

I got this recipe from a raw food recipe app from iTunes. It was delicious!
2 cups okra, ends sliced off and cut up
3 tbsp olive oil
3 tbsp Nama Shoyu
3 tbsp lemon juice
1 clove of garlic, diced fine
1/2 head of a small red onion, coarse chopped
3 small tomatoes, chopped
Mix all ingredients together and marinate 30 minutes

I'll have to subscribe to this thread. I seeded some okra in a container a few weeks back. It had a slow start, but it's first true leaves are finally starting to take off. I'm not sure how well it will grow through the Florida winter. Hopefully I can try out one of these recipes in a couple months time.

I made raw 'fried' okra :) It was great! I dried some organic corn, ground it up dipped the okra in it with a little salt, then dehydrated. Yummy!

I tried some raw pickled okra at a potluck. It was very simply fermented in a solution of water and sea salt. First time I've ever liked okra. :)

If prepared well, it can be a good experience. If not, it can be a turnoff!
It contains a sticky, mucilaginous juice. It's hard to describe the taste, but the pod itself is crisp and the pod seeds a little tangy (imo).

Okra's peak season is in summer, but is usually available year-round.
