I tried just short fasts, but my blood sugar goes up. Last night it was 91, and after 15 hours of just water, went up to 135. I had to eat a salad to get it back down.

I would like to do short fasts, but also heard not eating slows down your metabolism because the body thinks it is starving and goes into starvation mode.

I would like to do just 12 to 24 hour fasts, as I think maybe a diabetic could handle that. I am not on insulin, but do take a pill twice a day.

Uhhh, redmountainfarm? If it's not working, do something different.

Why do you want to do a fast when it's not working for you? What are you calling a fast? Why not get into eating raw food and balance yourself out instead of going to another extreme? Curious mind wants to know. :)

I have heard that eating frequent small meals helps to stabilize the blood sugar level.

Fasting is one of the worst things for a diabetic. Even religions that do fasting make exceptions for diabetics. You've got to keep a steady stream of food coming in to keep blood sugar stable.

try a juice FEAST instead of a fast.. without any fruit juices.

i'm diabetic but my sugars are super low... so i don't have to worry about it when i do a feast... i can add some fruit juices.

don't mess around with your body... go raw, get your diabetes under control and THEN perhaps, try a feast. (not a fast)

just my 2 cents worth...

Aleesha, would you please tell me how you can do a juice Feast without any fruit juices? Am I missing something here?

Hi Redmountainfarm,

Have you tried just eating raw? Maybe this is the best bet for you if your blood sugar is spiked too much fasting. What comes to mind is the documentary Raw for 30 Days which chronicles the journey of a group of people who completely reversed/cured their diabetes eating a 100% raw diet. Do you know about this? There's going to be a independent film released in June. http://www.rawfor30days.com/Site/Home.html

Best wishes,
Crystal
