Basil sprouts?

I think I had once seen basil seeds to sprout, do they taste like basil? This may seem like a dumb question but I once got basil oil thinking it would taste and smell like basil, but basil oil smells like black licorice, are the sprouts the same? At first I thought my basil oil had the wrong label, but after checking online basil oil does indeed taste and smell like licorice.
