Someone wants to sell me a used Vitamix 3600 that he said he bought 2nd hand 8 yrs ago. He said he's rarely used it and would like $100-$150 for it.
That seems high, to me, b/c it's so old, but I'd love opinions. Thanks.

Raene, it's a good price, but honestly I would just get a new one and newer model with a warranty directly from Vitamix. You can split up the payments and they ship immediately. I purchased a used Vitamix 4500 on Ebay without the warranty and it's holding up okay, but if I had to do it again I would just buy a new one. I will do the same going forward with any appliances I'm purchasing as I'm in this for the long haul and it's a good investment. Just my opinion as you asked. Good luck either way...it does seem like a good deal. But I don't know too much about the 3600s either.
Edit: I just reread your post and noticed he himself purchased it secondhand more than 5 years ago. In this case, I definately think the price is too high. If you're paying over $150 I would again just go on ahead and buy a new one if I were you.
YES!!! (Sorry to disagree with you Crystal! I do value your opinion!)
Here's why:
1. It might work great for years to come! In which case -- that is a steal!
2. You can probably talk him down to $100 because it IS really old.
3. If it dies soon, you can THEN get the new VitaMix, and get a $75 credit for trading in the old one. See this link for the details on that: http://www.vitamix.com/household/service/tradein.html

No need to apologize. There's always more than one way to do something. :D

Yeah I would get him down to $100 (since he did buy it second hand 8 years ago himself) and even if it last you another year it really only cost $25 if you trade it in and get a $75 credit.

Raene-
I think $100 is a good price. Sure you could get a new one and make monthly payments or whatever, but this guy is offering to sell you one. I'm sure you've thought about getting a Vitamix before and the money issue has probably stopped you. Sure, his Vitamix is kind of old but I'm sure those things are made to last a verrry long time (considering how expensive they are brand new) and I think you'd be getting a good deal out of it.
By the way, you said in your profile that you live in Upstate New York and I was just curious as to where? (you don't have to tell me if you don't want to, of course). I live in Woodstock, NY.

I decided against it...and bought a new Blendtec instead. Thanks for the recs, though! I was just too worried it would break or paranoid they'd put meat in it (I know, I'm crazy).
RawSinger, I'm in Ithaca. I suppose that's not really upstate, but close enough :) I've only been up here a few years and haven't traveled much around the state...how far is Woodstock?

I was just curious. I'll admit I'm a little nosy, but at least I can admit it, lol. I hear Ithaca is beautiful. I was thinking of applying to Cornell a few months ago. Woodstock is about 1 hour from Albany, 1/2 hour from Kingston. I would say it's probably about 2-3 hours from Ithaca but I could be wrong.
Hey, you made the right decision in not buying that Vitamix because it wouldn't have sat well with you. I'm paranoid about certain things as well. It probably stems from my Manhattan origin and just watching too much darn TV.
Good luck with your new blender and be well!

Good decision.........I could NEVER used something food related that was owned by a stranger. But I am extremely neurotic. LOL
Let me know how you like the Blendec.......that's what I want to save up for. Did they do a payment option with you?
