View Full Version : totally new, and very ignorant to raw foods.
hi there.
I'm Zae!!
*waves wildly*
okay. down to business :)
I'm 26 years old, just had a baby. I've been a Vegetarian for a good 90% of my life. I've always loved soy products and indulged when I've had the opprotunity.
Problem is, I've recently gone Vegan... and now I think I might have a soy allergy.
So I want to learn and try raw veganism. So please, bear with me for all the questions that may seem stupid... but you really gotta dummy things down to me like a 3 year old sometimes. Please be patient. I have lots to learn.

Welcome Zae!
Feel free to use the "search" button above. You may find a LOT of answers to your questions. First thing ~ "soy and allergies" or "soy, good for you?"... Other "Protein ~ how much?" "Protein from..." as I'm assuming (right or wrong) that you are thinking you're getting usable, high quality protein from the soy, no? I'm thinking that because you say "problem is"...
Well, this a raw vegan board and nothing made from soy is going to be raw unless you're sprouting the beans.
Raw food can be as simple or as complicated as you make it. You can take what you are currently eating (minus anything soy) and not cook it. Voila! You're eating raw!
See how easy that was??? :D

My daughter has a soy allergy. She gets very sick to her stomach if she consumes it.
The good thing about a raw diet is that soy isn't raw and you won't have to encounter it, aside from Nama Shoyu and perhaps Bragg's Aminios. Not entirely sure about those. I just substitute some Celtic Sea Salt for the Nama Shoyu. Have not made any recipes calling for Bragg's.

Hi I am new too! I also have a ton of questions, but I reccommend Alissa's book, Living in Live Food. It has been a great start for me!

Welcome and congratulations on choosing to be raw! Ask as many questions as you need to. That's how you become informed and then you may be able to answer other peoples' questions. Don't think any questions are dumb. The only dumb questions are the ones that you never ask.
~Good luck on your journey~

I'm new to raw too. The first I'd ever heard of it was reading Matthew Kenney's book on Get the Glow. It seemed unrealistic, something other people do in another world. Then my sister went raw and soon after I heard that, I read one of Victoria's Boutenko's books.
I was so excited my heart was pounding with joy and I went raw the same day I read the book. It was so exciting to hear what raw could do, what I could do on raw. I haven't looked back! It's only been 2 1/2 weeks for me, but I plan on making it a full-life choice. I love this way of eating, and the joy and benefits are spilling over into the rest of my life. (I've started exercising 20 minutes a day and cutting other environmental toxins out!) I'm happier, more confident and my body feels so strong and clean.
I research raw every day, on this site, library books, my borrowed from my sister Alissa Cohen book, and subscribe to a few daily raw newsletters. Just DO IT, and learn as you go!:D

Aloha and Welcome to RFT Zae! No worries about the questions, we've all been there... and we've all asked them!
Alissa's book really helps prepare you and helps you to understand so many things about this LIFEstyle. Not to mention there are a ton of wonderful recipes in that book that you will enjoy!
PLUS... if you look at the top of the page - there is a banana... you can always do a search on a topic to see if there are any prior discussions that might be helpful and answer any questions you have....
AND... besides all of that.... you can always ask too!! RAWk on ZAE!!
enjoy the adventure!!
