:o Hi I have tried to go raw but have failed. Its like cooked food is an addiction. I am only 17 years old and I am around alot of people who eat cooked food. I have a job so I buy my own raw food and that can get expensive. I have come to the acceptance that none of that really matters. When I went raw for that little week; I was happy excited and my weight had dropped from 163 to 159 in just 4 days and I would have been lighter today if I would of stuck to it now I am 3 pounds heavier than my starting weight. I am sitting here now writing this with my belly full to the rim with pizza and a peanut butter sandwhich. I plan on going raw tommorrow cause today was already a bad start. So wish me luck cause you guys are all I have. I am sick an tired of people telling me all you have to do is excersice you don't have to do this. So when I lose all my weight and have become fully animal friendly and full of life and healthy then I will let them know when they ask.LOL
HAPPY EATING RAW FOR ALL OF YOU;)

Welcome! I'm glad you are taking charge of your own health! I know it can be hard to do raw, especially if you are young. My daughter is 21 and lives with me. She eats raw at home, but her young friends and their pizza fixations make it hard outside the house. It can also be pricey. I try to focus on simpler foods and avoid fancy stuff. Just eat plenty! You are growing even if you're losing weight!
Best wishes to you!!!!!!!:)

Singer, do you have a buddy that would go raw with you for a few weeks as support? If not, check out the 30 Day Challenge for a small group support system.
All the best to you, Alicia

Please do not beat yourself or tell yourself you failed - I think that kind of negative thinking is the worst thing you can do to yourself. At your age you are showing a lot of chutzpah to even consider a raw foods lifestyle - you can do it! Remember that it is a process, and just do your best. Forgive your slips, and stay focused on giving yourself the gift of health. Try not to let others discourage you - they just don't understand. Particularly at a time in your life when there is so much social pressure already - and food is definitely a social pressure. Stay strong and positive!

Just as a little encouragement...When I started on this journey in 2005, my family thought I was nuts. Just a few months prior, I had given up putting relaxers in my hair and started wearing it Nappturally. They were sure I had joined a cult. (just kidding, but barely.)
Anyway...3 years and 3 attempts later, I am certainly vegetarian (the only one in the house),fluctuate between 50-90% raw (better than any SAD eaters I know), my 3 kiddos eat more fruits and vegetables because they are readily available, a just today my 50-something mother ate a bite of raw kale salad. (She's never even eaten COOKED kale.) I'll take those kinds of changes any day.
Just take it one day at a time...one step at a time.:)

My Mom just laughs at me everytime I want to do something because I have tried so much to lose weight. My family says you need to lose weight or you a little chunky( this is the people on my mom side of the family their islanders and were naturally skinny when they were younger and they still are thin now). On my dads side of the family they tell me I look nice and pretty. No one calls me fat. People at school tell me that I don't need to lose weight. When I look in the mirror I see the changes that need to be made. Thats why my number 1 belief is BE TRUE TO YOURSELF because not that many people will LOL.
Was it easy for you to lose weight how long did it take you?:D

Weightloss is never easy. It is a comittment to yourself. Start over as many times as you need to. Just keep starting over and never give up.
Try this....before you ditch your old habits completely, add some new ones, then one by one add more new , good habits and at the same time start eliminating the old ones. Then you won't miss them so much. Definitely ditch the dairy right away though, it is known to be addictive. And you are so right, food can be an addiction. You are already learning.
You will do this in your own time. NO matter what, you are always welcome to start over. Many of do.
Take care and very nice to meet you!

It is never easy for me to STAY raw. Because I'm the only vegetarian in the house, and the only raw foodist I have regular contact with in person, I am SURROUNDED by familiar cooked foods.(And I should mention--it has never been my desire to be 100%.)
...that being said...as I CONTINUE to eat higher and higher quantities/percentages of raw foods, the weight falls off effortlessly. Does that make sense? I hope I explained it correctly.
As for comments opinions from others re: weight, I've found it best not to tell others initially that I'm a making changes in eating habits/exercise etc...I make those changes for me. I let the results happen, and WHEN others inquire about noticeable changes in my body or what they see me eating, I am happy to speak about it then. I do not debate, though. I'm not rude...I just smile and say, "It must be working for me because you noticed." ;)

Be easy on yourself...going raw is a journey and can take some time. Concentrate on adding more raw, vibrant foods to your diet and there will come a point that you think I really want a fruit smoothie vs. a milkshake. Oh, by the way, Alissa's book and DVD are soooo Great.

elikat37: chutzpah is right! I like the Yiddish there. I don't know if I would have pursued this lifestyle at age 17.
