Help I just bought 5 lbs of org raw almonds and I soaked them for 24 hrs and I wanted to make almond butter. I put them in the food processor and it turned out to be almond meal. How do I make almond butter?

You need to let it run much longer than after it turns to almond meal, even though it looks like it's just spinning around, it will eventually turn to butter (expect at least 5-15 minutes of processing time, minimum). Also, as it thickens, the friction WILL cook it to death if you do not allow significant cool down periods (when I don't allow enough cool down time the processor bowl gets all steamy/foggy from the steam/vapor generated by the heat), when it starts getting warm, cool for 5-10 minutes and process 30-60 seconds, the entire process may be 30-45 minutes.

If you have a Green Star or other auger type juicer, run them through, it does it instantly with no cool down periods. I just made my last almond buter in my Green Star juicer and am never doing it in the food processor again, what takes 30 minutes in FP takes barely 30-60 seconds in the Green Star.

I just read that I should soak , then dehydrate the almonds, then grind in coffee grinder then put in food processor? Is this the way for it to end up like reg bought almond butter??? I bought 5lbs of almond thinking I will save money because raw org almond butter is almost $22 for 16 oz. Please help.

I process my almond butter beyond that stage until a ball. Then I put a little olive oil and sea salt.

I normally just put them in the food processor, that was until I found my Green Star does the job 500 times faster. Either way, I have never been able to get it almost liquid like the store bought one.

I have a green star elite juicer and I have tried to do almond butter several times and it comes out dry and bland tasting nothing like the raw almond butter at trader joes. I even ran it through many times and not much different and other people say the same thing. Any suggestions.

I haven't tried this yet because I'm off nuts for a while - but when I do, this is the one I'll try:

Hmm I wonder if you shoot the almonds through an omega juicer with the correct plate on, which it never really gets almond buttery, but grinds it to a fine powder, then transfer it to the food processor if that saves time if you are scared about your processor motor being weak. hmm something to try...

I've always just used my food processor. Leave 'em all in there for a loooong time like raweater mentioned. Usually takes 15-20 minutes.

I've heard good things about using a coffee grinder too, but I've never done it myself.
