I have hemp protein powder, but I'm reading all this great info about how ground flax is so good for you, plus its really affordable...
Do any of you put flax in your smoothies?
Does it affect the texture? I know when you soak the seeds they get gelatenous.
Does it affect the flavor?
I'm hoping this would help keep me full... I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.

Hi Erin,

I think if you grind the flax first in a coffee grinder (I have one just for grinding nuts and seeds) and then add it in to the smoothie, it would be great. I'll try it myself and let you know.

I just got done making a 2qt smoothie with added ground flax. I do this every morning and I love it. I drink this through the day and it keeps me really full. My kids also have some before school because they were getting so hungry before lunchtime.

I buy mine already ground and add 1/4 cup for a 2 qt smoothie. I dont think it affects the flavor at all but it makes the texture a bit grainy, but the added benefits make it worth it.

My bf puts soaked flax in his smoothies everyday. I don't drink his smoothies so I don't know how they taste but I guess they must blend OK.

this was really helpful, I'm glad to hear your smoothies aren't slimy! That's what I was worried about, lookout flax here I come!

i dont ground the flax, i think the flax seeds are baby enough already, & i just put a couple pinches in my smoothie every morning like so. i definitely dont think they affect the taste, but something i get a whole seed between my teeth & crunch it. fun.

I pour a whole bunch in my smoothie (1/4 cup?) seed and all, grinds right up and I don't taste it. Makes the smoothies rather thick which I don't mind.

I put a tablespoon of already ground-up flax seed in my morning green smoothie, along with 2 T of hemp protein - this is great and very filling to boot. Keeps me going easily and painlessly until lunch. Yes it does thicken the smoothie but that's OK by me - it makes it feel even more like a meal.

I bought some flax already ground (by accident no less) and use it in smoothies .. does not change texture as far as I can tell ...
I also use the ground flax to roll raisins and dired cranberries ...

Same here. Even in my el-cheapo blender I didn't have a problem with putting whole unsoaked flaxseed in my smoothies. I only put a few tsp fulls and I don't taste it at all

I put ground flax seed in my morning smoothie. I grind it myself in mini blender. I also put flax seed in almost everything else , sprinkle in salads. etc. I also eat it in the morning for breakfast. Boil water, add 2 or 3 tbsp. ground flax seeds , sprinkle with cinnamon , sometimes a little raw coconut, fresh berries , sometimes sprinkle a few nuts. YUM . Quick and raw & nutrional. Bye for now Suzy;)

ok I've been doing this lately, I've worked my way up to 2 big big big Tbsp of ground flax, the most green powder I've ever added, bananas, oj, nutmilk cubes and a dash of agave... this to me shows really how far my tastes have changed, I'm still sensitive about things like desserts and crackers, but before when I had a green smoothie I would have to load up the fruit and agave and just put a teeny big of green powder and greens in there- forget about nutty supplements. now I love bananas all on their own in a smoothie, I don't know what I'll do with myself when I try a chocolate shake- aka frozen bananas, nut milk, cacao....
