I take E3 Live brand and it has done wonders for my bloating and has really affected (postively) my eliminations. I would highly recommend it!

Dr. Ohira's and Enzymatic Therapy's Acidophilus Pearls are both good brands. :)

I like PB 8 brand of probiotic.
Also it's recommended you change around your probiotic from time to time to get variety.
Hope that helps!

I work at a health food store & our most popular brand is Renew Life. They are a highly respected company & include 10 strains of healthy bacteria in their formulas - except the vaginal support that contains 9 - we need more than just acidophilus (1 strain in the lactobicilli family). They have strains from both the lactobiccilli family (supports small intestines & urinary tract health) & the bifidobiccilli family (supports large intestines - where we absorb most of our nutrients).
They have both refridgerated & shelf stable kinds - I prefer the ones in the fridge, because they come in higher doses - up to 50 billion active cultures! I am currently taking the 50 billion formula due to the high flu activity going on around - 70% of our immune system comes from the healthy bacteria in our gut. Also good to reflood your system if you've taken an antibiotic.
After that bottle is done I will go with their basic adult formula of 15 billion. These are all 1 a day capsules.
Check out their website!
Hope this helps~

I don't like Renew Life products as they use a lot of fillers & other ingredients that aren't good. I believe their probiotics have dairy in them too.
Good ones: Dr. Ohira, Natren Healthy Trinity, Garden Of Life

It is a normal sized vegetarian capsule.

NO, Renew life does NOT use "filler & other ingriedient that aren't good" - I'm not sure what you are talking about here, Gilmore
They are a very good company.

Powdered version is best I have read too vs. capsule. I don't take but hubby and daughter do by Garden of Life I believe. Found this website. I use it for online pricing only. If store in our area, then we know the price when we go in and they must do an online price match. Have saved sons of money knowing this trick. My daughter and I both live near the stores in different states however. Do google search for Vitamin Shoppe. Not sure if international outside US.

Renew Life may have changed some of their formulas in regards to fillers, but the quality is still very low. I had recently questioned them about their formulas and they really didn't know whether they were dairy free or not (or how), though I see they now put it on the box. Either way for the price, you can find much better products out there. But as with anything, it's all a matter of preference and what works for you.

Gilmore,
I am just wondering where you are getting your information reguarding the "low quality" from Renew Life? From everything I know about them - they are good quality. When I think of low quality - most anything you can buy at Walmart, or the like is what comes to mind - with the use of synthetic ingredients to make them cheap.
I do agree that Garden of Life is a very good company as well.

You should take both probiotics and prebiotics (or a combined one).
They are all different and should be taken according to the instructions on the pack. I take Primal Defense and these are taken on an empty stomach up to 3 times a day.
I think that it is probably the most important thing for anyone to add to their diet.
