Good morning everyone,
Do any of you have any ideas for what food to send my husband off with for work? He commented this morning that if we're going to change how we eat then we need to figure out what he can take. He's a truck driver and is gone for 12 hours everyday. He takes a salad, some meat, nuts, and fruit. I just sent him off with a green (purple) smoothie for breakfast. He needs to eat a lot of food to keep him going as his job is very physical. So any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!
Chelle

Hi,
I pack a lunch every day for myself and can help a bit.
I pack a quart of green smoothie with 1/4 cup hemp seeds in it so that I feel full and satisfied
I bring carrot sticks or fruit slices or celery sticks with nut butter
Large salads
Nut pate
Almond crackers
carob truffles
Hope this helps. I'm not big on variety, so hopefully others will add more :)

Mason jars of soup are handy for eating while driving or at short stops.
Fruit puddings made with avocado to make filling.
Large, thick bars with fruits & nuts.

This has also been an issue for me. My DH laughs when I suggest he should try raw because he is also is a truck driver in his truck for 12 hour days. He starts his day at 4am and needs a lot of "fuel" to keep him going.
So I am interested to see what suggestions you get here.

I often spend 12 hours at work, and bring all my food with me, so here's what I bring:
64 oz of green smoothie to slurp on throughout the morning
Carrots/celery with some raw dip (hummus is my favorite)
Lots of fruit or nuts to snack on
Something heavy for dinner (guacamole on onion bread works really well, or eggless egg salad in romaine leaves)
Maybe a dense dessert type thing to keep him satisfied, like a piece of cheesecake or the date nut torte?
I always pack more food than I think I'll eat. That way, if I do get really hungry for some reason, I have plenty of raw options.
Hope that helps!

Thank you for your responses thus far. I'm going to share them with my husband tonight and see what his response is. So far it looks like I will be packing a thermos full of green smoothie for him. Sounds great! Keep them coming PLEASE!!! ;)

my husband is a big guy too and over the past few weeks his lunches I pack him are getting raw-er ( the other guys at work make fun of him, but he says he doesnt care, what they eat is scary). On the days I pack him raw stuff, he likes-
celery with nut butter
apple slices with nut butter mixed with honey and cinnamon
whole fruit like bananas, plums, apples, pears and oranges
veggies with a dip (hes not raw like me, so sometimes its just hummus, the point is to make things more raw than a sandwhich and a cookie)
raw wraps- like collard wraps, or if you have a dehydrator, the corn tortillas in the recipe section (they are made with corn and young coconut, but do not taste like coconut, its does make them very flexible), wrapped up with avocado, walnut meat, unfried beans, salsa and lettucs are yummy and very filling.
(i have been using the unfried bean recipe from the raw food book 100 recipes to get the glow- its spicy and delicious!)
I pack the wrap in its own baggie and the fillings in another so it does not get soggy. another option is to use large romaine leaves for the wraps.
my man does not yet love GS, so I only do it once a week. He does love my cacoa hazelnut milk, which I put in a mason jar with a screw on lid so he can drink right out of it.
when I made raw lasanga I made a big pan so he ate that all week.
a veggie salad with a thai or curry dressing is good.
and always some chocolate or sweet raw treat=)
I love the idea of pates and also the soup, i will add that to our to do list.
goodluck, i need this thread as well, so keep going guys=):D

DH and I work together so I bring all food as well. I make him a big fruit smoothie to drink durning and after our workout. When we get to the office he has raw granola that I make with fresh almond milk. Lunch is raw veggies - today was yellow peppers and bananas - also green juice - have to go!

Everything sounds yummy! How about cut up fruit salad to which he can add nuts to if he likes to eat nuts. Also, trail mix is good with raisins, coconut dried, nuts, sesame seeds, etc.

Two things that are filling for me:
1. Fruit salad with a nut based dip mixed in. I like cashews ground with agave, vanilla, and an orange (plus water as needed). It makes a think paste that sticks to the fruit. It's VERY filling.
2. Carrot/Apple salad. I put 4 carrots and an apple in the food processor to chop fine. Mix that mixture with some raisins, cocount, and/or nuts. Then make a sauce with an orange, cinnamon, nutmeg and raisings - blend in blender until smooth. Add to carrot mixture and let sit a few hours before serving.
Hope that helps!

great suggestions!!! do you think i can use a run of the mill blender for these, particularly the second recipe?

I think so. If your blender doesn't liquefy the orange, then juice it and use just the juice for the sauce. That should work.

I just did a variation of this and it is delicious. I'm taking it for my lunch tomorrow. Thank you for the idea!!

i'm glad to see this thread. Some of my days are longer than others; this week I've had 3 14-16 hour days in a row, and i bring all my food.
For a full day, usually i have a green smoothie (about 16oz) that i drink on the way, about 12oz fresh orange juice for a morning snack, lunch is some sort of mixed salad type thing, not a lettuce based salad but something heavier like broccoli or kale. There's a snack of mangoes or papaya, about 2c, then dinner is another salad type thing, usually tomato, cabbage, mango and scallions.
It all fits inside my thermal bag (important if i don't want it to go bad).
I do find that if i don't bring it all with me, i find myself eating SAD stuff and then beating myself up about it.
That said, I've also sussed out every fruit store I pass when I travel from client to client, and if I didn't bring enough to get me through the day, I can pop in somewhere- bananas, peaches, etc keep me going.

These are great ideas everyone! I told me husband he can take a big smoothie to drink throughout the morning and celery sticks with nut butter and he said that sounded good. I can only share a bit at a time with him otherwise he might just freak out. lol
Please keep them coming. I really appreciate all your time and ideas.
