I don't know how much more of this I can take. I can not even drink water without it hurting. I'm trying to not go to the Dr.'s, since we do not have any health insurance, but I don't know how much more of this I can stand. I'm eating probably 60% raw. I'm doing all of the natural approaches. Someone recommended baking soda at work today. Has anyone tried that, if so what amounts bs to water?
I do have one cup of coffee in the a.m., and am trying to cut that out, but I've heard you should not go cold turkey. Please, please help, I'm in pain. Thanks, everyone.:(

For me there are many foods that are triggers. I don't drink coffee, but from what I have read it is bad for acid reflux. I can't have any chocolate. That's one of the worst things for me. So is peppermint. Some people find they can't have peppers, onions, tomatoes or certain seasonings. Unfortunately it varies from person to person.

You really should go to the Dr. though because it could be something worse than just acid reflux. You might have GERD or ulcers. I do.

What do you need to do for GERD or ulcers? Is this something I can take care of through raw? Or is this something I need medication for?

david rainoshek says that acid reflux is usually caused by organic sodium deficiency and can be helped by drinking celery juice. basically the body pulls organic sodium from the lining of the stomach for use in alkalinizing food moving from the stomach to the intestines. the body shuts down production of stomach acid because the stomach's alkaline buffer has been depleted, and since your body doesn't know what to do it kicks the food it can't digest back up.

celery juice; definitely cheaper than a doctors visit. and they'd just put you on drugs that are going to make the condition worse in the long run. feel better.

how about chia seeds?

Matt Monarch (http://www.rawveganbooks.com/product_info.php?ref=199&products_id=1001333&affiliate_banner_id=1) talks about chia seeds.

I myself have Gerd (Gastro Esophagus Reflux Disease), acute gastritis, a gastric ulcer and IBS. I have dealt with these conditions for almost 20 years. I have taken all the medications from Tagament to Prevacid. In using the Chia Seeds myself, I always told my customers not to use the Chia Seeds without a fluid because it would hydrate from the fluid in your stomach.

One day my stomach was hurting real bad because of the acid. I took one tablespoon of dried seeds with just enough water to get them down. I waited for five minutes and then I drank more water to finish hydrating the seeds. It worked! The seeds hydrated from the acid in my stomach. The pain stopped. :)

The part that impressed me the most was that I was relieving the pain as well as getting all the benefits the seeds have to offer. Now I do recommend taking the Chia Seeds dry only if you have a lot of acid in your stomach. At 10 cents a serving it is a natural alternative to high price prescription drugs. A lot of my customers have used the seeds this way. I also recommend them to my customers who have IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) because of the high soluble fiber in the Chia Seed gel. Only if you have a lot of acid in your stomach, should you take them dry with no water till five minutes later.

I just drank a cup of baking soda and water and it helped for about 1 minute. Still have burning in my throat. Oh, well, it was worth a try. Next.

I agree, Beckx, I know how most Dr.'s get you on something that messes everything else up. I will try the celery juice. It makes sense. Thank you.

I could not take any of the meds for GERD. All made me very sick. All I can do is take Maalox. Not sure if it helps or not because most of the time I have no symptoms.

I eat chia seeds. I can't see why they would help with it.

When I was having those symptoms, I drank several bottles of Penta Water. Sold at healthfood stores. It has an alkaline ph. Foods like apples and apple juice are known for their ability to calm the stomach.

I fasted for many months on mostly apples when I had GERD. It was the only food that felt right on my stomach.

The MD I saw had me drink aloe vera juice. My favorite aloe vera has Irish Moss so it is thicker. It seems to help it to stick to the stomach wall. I would dink a few swallows of it anytime my stomach hurt. I looked like I was hooked on aloe for awhile until I healed. He also said to get a juicer and drink lots of cabbage juice, he said it helps to heal ulcers. I had a hard time getting the cabbage juice down.
