View Full Version : New Here and looking for a Juice Fast buddy
This forum is a wealth of information and thanks to everyone. I did learn a lot about juice fasting and raw food.
I completed a 15 day juice fast a month ago and lost 18 lbs. Since then I have been mostly raw about 90% with the occasional cooked food on social occasions.
I plan to do 30 days this time and today is Day 1.
I mostly do green juices and maybe a glass of diluted carrot juice. I also drink plenty of water. I want to try and do 3 days of juicefast with a day of water inbetween and again 3 - 4 days of juice followed by 1 day of water for a total of 30 days.
Would anyone like to join me. Or any advice/thoughts ?

i'll cheer you on from the sidelines!!!!!!! i'm way too addicted to my green smoothies right now to juice feast... sorry. i plan on doing one in the summer though.
I am not doing a juice feast but a juice fast.
I definitely can use the encouragement. Woke up today with a blinding headache.
omg! I know what you're talking about with those headaches! Girl. I'm starting a juice fast as well. Details are on my blog. I am doing mine over again b/c I messed it all up I actually started last week and did it for 5 days and the weekend well.... :o So I really want to do this right so I am preparing my body for a week eating raw foods then fasting for a week and then eating raw solids for another week. So in total 21 days.... Although we are on diff days and all... I would love to share this experience with ya!

and today is Day 3. The headaches lasted all day yesterday and today I am feeling a lot better.
I am determined to stick it through for the 30 days and continue to do another 10 if I am able. I gained about 57 lbs from medication.... that is on a 5' 2 petite build.
I would like to get back to the 105 that I was beginning of last year. I need to lose another 39 and I am hoping that this fast will help to lose some of that. I am also walking about 2 miles each day.
I am mostly doing green vegetable juices and the occasional fruit juice. I found from my 2 week fast that fruit juices do not help me lose weight. So just add the occasional apple to my green juice to sweeten up.

I've been thinking about extending the length of my juice fast... i don't know if 7 days is enough to get all of the garbage out.... At the same time I'm afraid to lose too much weight. I am thinking of fasting for 14 days instead of the 7... I just have to see how my body reacts and feels since I am also going to be training and exercising...
Anu I am glad you are feeling better. I think the key to making it through this is by having a good support system. I failed last time b/c I didnt have that and I had a lot of ppl frowning my intentions. But I think with a well thought out plan also contributes to a good fast along with others doing the fast with you....
Question- I have read on a few sites that its not really a good idea to mix veggies and fruits for some odd reason. Veggies must stick to veggies and fruits with fruits... I was just wondering why, what the big deal? I mean I can't find drinking a bunch of spinach with some type of sweet flavor a problem?
How many glasses of juice are you all drinking in a day? The juice feast website recommends a gallon of juice daily... but I don't know I think thats a bit much for me...
1 qt veggie 1 qt fruit especially for those who workout but I dont think I can juice a gallon everday on my college student budget....

msv -- you might juice fast for 14 days instead? I did a 14 day water fast before, & I actually thought it was short & thought I could go longer to clean out the garbage but who knows. I just ended it, b/c I heard so much about 14 days being the max safety of water fasting w/o supervision. http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii81/outsideanimage/scratchchin.gif Somehow now I wished I would have just listened to my own body. So this time will be different.
The second day was the worst, since then it has been a lot easier.
I have lost to date 5 lbs. I weigh myself everyday more to fine tune what I am drinking by way of juices. I realized from my previous fast that fruit juices do not help me lose weight. I have stuck to my green vegetable juices with an apple thrown in for sweetness.
I also drink more than 8 glasses of water a day and my 2 mile walk.
MSV, Here is what I did. I fasted on juices day 1 and 2. Day 3 was a complete water fast. Day 4 and 5 are juice fast days. I plan to waterfast tomorrow folowed by 2 - 3 days of juice fast and continue this way. It is working for me. OAI, you could try this.
The Food Combining, I have read about it in quite a few places. I am not able to drink the green juice without the apple thrown in. So I go ahead and do it. I am able to stick to the fast this way.
I am not able to drink more than four large glasses of green juice a day. Here is what I throw in.
1 - 2 lbs of romaine, spinach or any type of greens (or mix em up)
2 large cukes
1 large apple
a small tiny piece of ginger
and some celery.
I have come to like the taste and it gives me a lot of energy. I think it also does not throw me over the caloric requirement for a day which can hinder weight loss.
I got the recipe for the juice from Natalie Rose's raw Food Detox diet and added the ginger because I like the taste.

A big congrats on your 5 lb. lost! Good work! It sounds like you found out what works for ya w/ juice fasting. I always tried to juice w/ fruits instead of any veggies. Maybe that's why I was never able to stay w/ juice fasting. That's something to ponder for if I ever do attempt a juice fast again! ;)
I live in the DC metro and go walking along the W & OD trail in and around my home.
I cannot run because of a bad knee. So walking it is. The days I cannot get out, I get on my treadclimber. I am trying to add 15 minutes of resistance band exercises and 50 jumping jacks on my rebounder.
Gets me moving :).
My goal is to lose atleast 20 lbs in theese 30 days. I may extend my fast another 10 days if I am able to.
Committing to myself on a public forum keeps me focused. :D

Thank you Anu! Congrats on your loss so far! I decided I am going to do a full 30 days also... Yea I admit I'd like to lose some weight too but I mainly want to get rid of all the junk and train myself how to control my eating habits and my relationship with food.
Tommorow will be my 1st day. I am also planning on working out at the gym, lifting weights not very crazy workouts b/c I don't know what to expect from my body really but as long as I am doing something I'll feel good.
I think you guys should check out www.globaljuicefeast.com It's a really good site where people from all around the world are juice feasting for 92 days. They started on March 1st. Although I know we are fasting.... its still a goo place I think to learn and get additional support. Let me know if you join and we can add eachother as friends. :D

anu! i'm also in the dc metro area! that's so cool there are more raw foodists in the area.
how are you guys doing today? i actually have to go out & eat w/ the dad, & a fasting group at another board are starting the first day of spring. so i'm thinking about maybe fasting tomorrow or joining the group in spring. you know... so we all can trade war stories for the day! :p

i was thinnking of juice fasting until dinner. The longest I've juice fasted was 7 days and i just can't seem to make it past a day anymore so I am hoping to lose the 30 pounds i need to release drinking juice for breakfast and lunch and eating a very light raw dinner, probably just some fruit.
Has anyone had experience successfully losing weight this way?
I have lost weight drinking juice through the day with a healthy dinner. I stuck to mostly vegetarian (small portions, low calorie, mostly raw).

YAY !!!! I am not sure how I can search for you since I am fairly new to the site as well. But so far I've noticed I am the only Aura on the site so far. So if you see a girl in a red tank top from NJ thats me! So excited you joined. Hows your fast coming along? I am on day 2 today. So far so good.....
It is coming along great. Yesterday was a water fast day. Was tired ..so just trook it easy.
Today and tomorrow are juice fast days. I will look for you in the Global Juice Feast forum
