I have read the sesame and sunflower are the preferred oils; however, has anyone used olive oil or flaxseed oil and what are the results? Thank you for your help :)

I have tried coconut oil, just to get used to the idea. I think they all work to some degree, but from studies on it, the results won't be as good with other oils. If you are doing it just to whiten teeth and tighten gums, I don't think it matters, but if you are trying to pull toxins, then I would use either sesame or sunflower to get the best results.

Hey Raspberry! I personally use sunflower oil....I love it because it really doesn't have a taste to it, and it's really easy to swish for 20 min.! I know others have used coconut oil, and love it, but I just stick with what I like....plus, cold-pressed organic sunflower oil is way cheaper than extra virgin coconut oil! :p

I've been using the Sesame Oil because it's supposed to be the best one if you want clearer skin. The first day was NASTY, I was only able to leave it in about 5 minutes and then I threw up after spitting it out.
It does get easier. Today (6th time pulling) I easily did 20 min. No gagging and the taste/consistency didn't bother me a bit.
I have only used sesame oil (expeller-pressed, unroasted, organic). It was gross the first couple times, but now it's just like second nature to use it. It seems to do a fantastic job. I have been oil pulling with sesame for about 10 months, and I sometimes get busy and forget I'm swishing, only to look at the clock and find it's been over an hour.
That doesn't really answer your question, but I just threw that out there in case it's helpful. :)

Thank you again! Will try to find some cold pressed sunflower oil - perhaps at a HFS? Anyway...have a great raw day everyone!

do you still have to brush your teeth with oil pulling or can you do it instead? I'm always worried about damaging my teeth with brushing. I thought oil pulling might be a gentler way to clean?

After oil pulling, yes, brush your teeth, then you're supposed to follow-up with 2 to 3 glasses of water. I use safflower oil, which I cure first, then store in a glass decanter.
