View Full Version : Time to christen my new dehydrator
Autumn

One of my gifts from hubby for my birthday yesterday was a dehydrator (as well as a new food processor and other things that have nothing to do with raw).
Anyhoo, as I am still a dehydrating virgin, I'd like some suggestions for christening it. :D Something fun, not too complicated and that is relatively goof-proof since I'm a virgin, after all. Be gentle with me, friends. :o
I'm excited to get started and don't know what to do first!

OH! Happy (belated) Birthday and congrats on your new goodies!! What a sweet hubby to get you those things! I had no idea you didn't have a dehydrator nor a processor - you GO girl! :)
Well, seeing as this is your first time and all - I'd say go for testing the waters with some good ole fashioned dried fruit or fruit leather! Dried bananas, apples, strawberries, mango, etc. OR...pureed fruit spread and then dried to...no no no...do you have Alissa's book? Girrrrlll, make the CREPES! Yummy and easy! The crepe shells are just blended bananas and then you whip up the cream filling with your processor, etc....you and hubby will LOVE them!

Thank you for the wishes. :D
I had a processor, but it died. *playing taps* I borrowed a dehydrator from a friend, but wasn't impressed with the performance. I hemmed and hawed for a while, trying to decide what to get. (It wasn't a huge issue for me because I wasn't craving that type of food, I was eating so much fresh.)
I asked you the other day about yours because I had planned on spending the money my parents sent me on one, but then hubby got me one, along with a new processor. (He said years ago he would NEVER buy me an "appliance" for a gift, but this is what *I* wanted, so I was quite happy!)
Thanks for the suggestions. I do have Alissa's book, so I guess the crepes will be my first thing! Wish me luck!

Happy Belated Birthday!!!!
Yes, make the fruit roll-ups and crackers. :D
My favorite fruit roll-up mixture is one red apple to 2-3 peaches. Apple and peach happens to be my favorite juice mixture too.

My vote is for the crepes! So amazingly easy and wonderful!!!!
Now, the food processor ~ if you've not made it ~ Alissa's lasagne. When you first look at it, it seems complicated. It's not. Quite simple and all made in the processor.
Belated wonder-filled b-day to you!

Thanks everyone! :D
I now have 8 things on my list to try "first". Hee! The crepes won first try, and I am in the middle of making them now. Will let you all know how they turn out!

Okay, these are FANTASTIC!!!!!!!! Hubby had one and said it was good, too (he hates bananas, so for him to try this was major). I LOVE 'EM! They were so easy, too! I'm trying to decide what to make for #2 right now. I want to get it in before I go to bed.... I think it will be fruit leather since I have to get some ingredients for the crackers. Maybe tomorrow I'll try either the enchilladas or the lasagne - or both? hee! I'm going to love this dehydrator. :D

I saw go for the flax crackers -- the ones with lemon and ginger. They are my staple cracker ... and so easy to make. If you find it challenging to get them thin and even, let me know ... I learned an easy way to get them thin and uniform from a local raw chef.
Oh oh oh -- the onion or pizza bread, too!

Told ya!! Those crepes are da BOMB aren't they?
Glad you liked them :)
RawTruth, what are these lemon and ginger flax crackers of which you speak? Is the recipe posted here on this site somewhere?
Thanks!

If you have an extra bottle of acv laying around, that'd be great for Christening. Whatcha gonna name her?

Sharon,
Hee! I should name her, shouldn't I? I'll have to come up with a good one!
Rawkinlocs- I think she was referring to the original flax crackers? There is lemon and ginger in that recipe.
SO, my 2nd recipe was the crackers, the veggie variation. I peeked and they are looking good-gonna be a whileeeeeeee yet; I can't wait! I really want to try everything now. :)

I've got the lasagne in now as well as carmel coconut cookies. The lasagne is almost finished. That was a bit of a chore, not too bad though. I hope it's as good as I think it's going to be! Dinner is almost served! Cookies won't be finished until tomorrow, but when I peeked, they smelled heavenly.
Hey, Autumn! Let me know how the cookies turn out. I have a batch of Almond/Raisen cookies ready to go into mine. So far I have had 1 success and 2 failures in my new dehydrator. My flax crackers turned out, my sprout bread didn't and I made the squash patties and just didn't like them at all.
We are both christening new dehydrators and I'm learning that it is a true learning experience!

Oh yes I am. I am a fool alright, but for different reasons! LOL! I made so much stuff with my new dehydrator and food processor that I am sick to my stomach! I just HAD to taste and try and just a little bit more and ooooh isn't that good and ....... ugh! I think I'll just sip on some water until tomorrow - - then try a few more recipes! :D

Oh, watch out then. Dehydrated food can serve as a cooked substitute with a lot of raw fooders, where they start eating it more and more and then fresh stuff less and less.
