I started taking this (apple cider vinegar) after each meal, 5 days ago and am astounded to have lost 10 pounds!
The reason I began taking it was that I hoped it would bring my blood sugar down. Another diabetic said it worked for him. So far that hasn't happened. I did notice increased energy. I think it must change the acid/alkaline balance because I feel like I did when I used to drink lemon water. In NY, I could get a bed pillow sized bag of juicy lemons for around $3.00. Here I can get two small lemons for that price. So that's why I rarely do the lemon water now.
I went to the Dr. on Tues. and weighed myself just in case before I left. My Drs. are the kind that give me a stern talking to when I gain weight and get all excited at the slightest amount of weight loss. I noticed I had lost 2 pounds. But I figured their scale wouldn't be the same as mine and I hoped at least I hadn't gained any. Nope. Scale was the same! :D Still, two pounds isn't anything for me to get excited over. I can easily gain or lose a few pounds without even trying.
But today I noticed I felt lighter and looked smaller, especially around the midsection. And sure enough I've lost another 8 pounds!
Does anyone know by what mechanism this stuff causes weight loss? Thanks!

How much ACV are you taking after each meal?

I am taking it in pill form because I'm not sure I would like the taste of it in water, especially with honey to sweeten. Hate honey! I take one pill about an hour after each meal.

There are many different brands. This one is Original Apple Cider Vinegar Diet.

That's interesting, juliebove. And congratulations on your weightloss :)
Had you been struggling with your weight?
It's funny because the claims about apple cider vinegar have been around for what seems like centuries. It just may be. I'm intrigued, really. I've read about apple cider vinegar treating so many things that it just seem(s)ed like overkill.
I guess there must be something to it.
Best,

My guess is that it's stimulating your gastric juices so that you're digesting your food better, hence the weight loss. Congratulations!
Does anyone know of any issues with taking ACV long term? I'm wondering because it's so acidic. I wonder if HCL would be safer for the stomach, or those terrible-tasting Swedish bitter herbs, but then again, I'm just rambling.
And get a nice doctor!:(

Best,
I developed a thyroid problem when pregnant. Actually I had some weight problems prior. Weight was at an all time high then. Managed to lose a little by the time I got pregnant and then weight went up and down while pregnant, with my total gain being only 12 pounds at the end. But then... For some reason I packed on another 22 pounds AFTER I had the baby. I have managed to lose 52 pounds so far, but it has been very tough. Hope to lose another 20 or more.

ACV is the number one natural weight loss remedy at the very popular website www.earthclinic.com, where people compile their home remedies and then everyone reports back on what works for them and what didn't, and the webmaster keeps track of the stats.

i haven't tried it myself. raw is working great for me. but ACV is good for lots of things. my grandmother always made us gargle with it for sore throats, something everyone in my extended family still swears by to this day (including me).

Wow! That site really makes it seem like the miracle food, it's almost too good to be true:o I do have faith in it, though... I remember when I was younger and went through my teen acne (which, by the way, I cured by going high raw for a while, and managed to stay acne-free even after falling off the high-raw band wagon temporarily!!!!), I used to dillute it with water and apply it as a toner from time to time... It did wonders! Made my face glowing and soft:) Also I remember I started taking it internally a couple of months ago and noticed improvements in my energy levels, though that could have been the placebo effect of wishful thinking, who knows:) I stopped drinking it because I have a very sensitive stomach and it did not bode well with my stomach, but it did seem to agree with it more than lemon water does. My stomach's been a BIT more resilient and compliant with me lately though, so I'm going to start taking it again... I'll let you all know of the progress/changes if I notice any, and you're interested;)

If you were going to take it after meals diluted with water, how much would i have to mix? I have taken the swedish bitter before - it is the the worst thing I have ever tasted so if this tastes better I would rather try that, but I am not sure how much to take???

On the bottle is a recommendation to take some mixed with water (and honey if desired) BEFORE meals.

Don't know if it's what's attributing to my weight loss (I've just reunited with raw this past week, so I think the weightloss is inevitable), BUT, I find that drinking 2 teaspoonsful (dilluted w/ water) in the morning helps alleviate my usual morning lethargy! Really! Try it;)

I heard that ACV is also good for helping to lower bp, which I'm trying to do. So here's the deal. I just got braces off my theeth and have retainers that ACV is supposed to clean well, so while I have breakfast I soak my retainers in 2 T.ACV in about 4 oz. of water. Then I brush my teeth, drink the vinegar and I haven't wasted anything. (Someone on earthclinic.com said to not brush your teeth just after theACV, so i do it before.) I just discovered earthclinic when I was in AZ at a spa with my 6 daughters for a week. One of them got what she feared was a sinus infection, so I went looking for quick remedies. Guess what !! ACV did the trick---that and the steam room the sauna, a good massage, etc., but she never got sick, and she's a little prone to colds, and other respitory ills. So I guess it's a miracle food of sorts.;)

But now with me eating more raw foods it seems that it doesn't bother me to drink it anymore.
Strange but i can take 2 cups a day with 1 tbls. of vinegar per cup and it goes down smoothly.
I've been drinking the vinegar for about a week and have noticed today that i've lost 3lbs:D
I'm overjoyed because my weight would not budge at all.
I'm going to continue drinking it.

I drink a cup in the morning before i eat and again during the midafternoon.
I've heard that you shouldn't drink water with your food but you can 30 minutes before you eat anything.

Supermarket brand vinegar is a no-no.
Even though it says 5% acidity, it's sometimes much higher than that.
I take 2 Tbsp of acv in 10 oz of water 3 times a day.
I take ACV either before I eat or a couple of hours afterwards.
I've been sleeping better and my monthly cycle is much more pleasant (no PMS or cramping).

How about Braggs ACV? I assume that's ok? I hope so because I saw this thread earlier and darn it I grabbed a bottle on the way home from work.

Please read what they say on earthclinic.com all the way through about apple cider vinegar! ACV is NOT acidic. Just like lemons and oranges (which seem acidic to your tastebuds, but are not to your body), after your body digests them the ash they leave is actually alkaline and very good for you.
Now, about your teeth. If you add 1/4 teasp of baking soda to 2 tablespoons of ACV and water, the baking soda neutralizes the acv, so it does not harm your teeth as it passes over them. Honey is optional for flavor. I found I gained weight with raw honey, but that's just me (loved the taste, though). ACV I found to be tolerable with just the baking soda added. It bubbles quite a bit, so use a bigger glass than you think you need. Wait for the bubbles to subside to drink it. I just use about 1/2 cup of water, because I want to be down it quickly. Hubby puts it in a large glass and sips it all evening.
Earthclinic.com is a wonderful place for learning. The natural remedies there are amazing - so simple!
The people who write in are just everyday normal people like us - and they have nothing to sell or profit from, so the opinions are honest and unbiased. They also post the negative comments of people who try remedies and they don't work for them. Everyone's different!
I've been interested in AVC for quite some time & will explore it further after my fast. I also ordered some extra virgin coconut oil. It's a toss up b/wn AVC, coconut oil & oil pulling for me. I'll see what works best for me. What I'm interested in is any of their effects on my health, skin, hair, teeth, etc...along those lines. ;)
earthclinic is definitely a great site. :D

I've been using ACV for the last 2 days to stave off a flu. Typically I'd be SO sick right now (my immune system was not good in the past), but I started taking ACV and gargling with it the evening I started feeling ill. Luckily the flu has not taken hold as it typically would have. I'm still feeling a little under the weather, but nothing compared to how I would feel in the past.
I've lost 4 lbs exactly in the last few days. I'm not sure if my flu is being accompanied with a healing event, as my weight would not budge for about 2 weeks before this. I definitely feel my body is detoxing and the ACV is helping it along. I'm going to continue taking ACV to see if it helps me lose any more weight even after I'm well again.

Hi!
What brand of ACV is everyone taking? I am so intrigued!

Spectrum Naturals Unpausteurized ACV (Filtered)
I tried Braggs, but it gave me a horrible stomachache.
I prefer filtered, because it's easier on my stomach.

Will ACV cause irritation to ppl with sensitive teeth??
If you're worried about your teeth:
Don't sip on it - drink it all at once. Then rinse/flush/squish your mouth/teeth with plain water once or twice emmediately after drinking the ACV. Do NOT brush your teeth right after drinking or eating acidic foods (which ACV is before digested), since that'll make it worse according to most dentist.
And one other thing... wouldn't water at meal times (even with ACV) dilute your digestive juices??
Water will dilute anything you mix it with, but it won't make that big a difference in this case. Don't worry so much about the little things.
If it makes you feel better, you can always mix your ACV with something else, like applejuice or whatever, if you feel like water is messing up your digestion.
Think about it... That's kinda contradicting, isn't it? I mean eating raw is eating lots of water, since most fruits and veggies are mainly water. You are digesting those just fine.
I drink my ACV in a little water and often use applejuice to sweeten it, and I drink it after meals. Other people do it differently... experiment a little and find out what feels most natural to you. And again, don't get hung up on the details.
Meant in the best way possible, as always :)

I had no idea! Thanks for sharing this info maui_butterfly. I've been drinking ACV shots (about 3-4 oz) before each meal on the recommendation of a long-time raw foodist friend. I was experiencing some digestion issues and this cured it. No wonder I'm losing weight also. Wow.
ugh guys. I had no idea about mixing acv in water. so i drank it straight! that seems to work for me. now i can't really imagine adding it to water. i don't think i'll be able to down it. :o
after my first shot, it seems my jeans fit just fine. kind of lose. weird. before it was tight, but my weight is less 3 pounds though. i don't know if it's b/c of acv or b/c i just got off my period. also, i'm not as bloated. so that's good. :D i'm not sure if i can attribute to acv, since i'm also oil pulling.

What is oil pulling?
I got some ACV pills and started taking them this morning. I hope they work!
hey ms. green diva. let us know how the pills work! what brand are they? since my mom is super pill gal, i might sneak some into her generic drugs or something. i wouldn't sabotage any of her serious medications of course...just stuff like acetaminophen. http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii81/outsideanimage/coverlaugh.gif
oil pulling is swishing 1 tbsp in your mouth for 15-20 mins. check out the earth clinic site. the advised oils to use are safflower & sesame, I think. I forget. I'm using extra virgin olive oil instead until I run out. I'll see.

I consume ACV at least an hour before eating.
check out curezone too. they have an oil pulling (http://curezone.com/forums/f.asp?f=738) forum and ACV forum (http://curezone.com/forums/f.asp?f=483) that may be of help

i may be wrong but aren't you supposed to drink the acv 30 minutes before you eat? its probably for a different purpose though. i heard it was for balancing out your stomach. i always drink a ACV tonic every morning when i wake up.
congrats on the weightloss!
