I have been reading a lot about the Master Cleanse and contemplating doing it, but the use of maple syrup and salt water flushes seem fishy to me...
I'm already 100% raw, have been for over a year now, and I'm wondering if I would even benefit from a master cleanse.... is it safe? I am on day 5 of a juice fast right now, and had intended on doing the global juice feast (www.juicefeasting.com), but I don't like the idea of using enemas - I've read so many contradictory things about them (for example, Stanley Burroughs shuns them in the Master Cleanser book - which is why he encourages salt water flushes, so I'm thinking about switching over to the master cleanse....
Is anyone here 100% raw and has thoughts on this? I could really use some advice!

My thoughts here are do the juice feast, and take cascara sagrada. They really only say use the enema for the first 10 days or so. The cascara sagrada is an herb they recommend on the feast. You don't have to do all that they say and like I just learned you don't have to take all the supplements they recommend. As for the MC, I have done it and the salt water flushes I found to be very hard on my system, but I have read others on this forum that have no problem with them. Just my two cents worth. You have been raw for a year, so your system has probably cleared out a lot of the old junk.

Sounds to me that you're gonna have to pick and choose your battles on this one!
There are many raw fooders who do the MC and there are plenty who do enemas. You're also going to find that there are plenty who shun both or one or the other. So, it's really going to boil down to you making a personal decision and again, picking and choosing your battles...which is more acceptable to YOU, personally: using maple syrup and salt water/senna tea (MC) or flushing your colon via enemas (during the juice feast)?
Maybe you could just do the juice feast and do salt water flushes instead of enemas so you're kinda borrowing from each! This way you don't have to use (cooked) maple syrup and you won't have to do enemas.
Take a look in our "Fasting" section and read up on the Master Cleanse discussions there.

You can do a RAW Master Cleanse, many use Agave Syrup instead of the cooked maple syrup and even more people skip the salt flushes and take laxative tea twice a day with excellent results.

I have been really enjoying the MC drink in addition to the juice feasting, like they said yesterday in their vids its a nice addition, quick if your in a hurry or havent got time to juice-- not something to have all the time, but an addition to the feast.
Just have the drink in addition to your regular juices, see if thats comfortable:o

Thanks everyone for your input. LNdolls, I like your answer about the tea instead... although, can't your digestive system become dependent on any of these elimination aids? And in the master cleanse book, it says not to use agave or honey because they don't contain "balanced sugars" like maple syrup does, and they could mess up your body's ability to regulate your blood sugar. On the other hand, that book also boasts the quantity of nutrients in grade B maple syrup as opposed to grade A, but I've read that when you destroy the organic compounds of vitamins and minerals (as you do with heat), you basically render them indigestible and unable to be absorbed into your blood stream anyway (in fact, they pretty much turn to rocks that could clog up your arteries), so what does it matter which grade contains more iron? And whats a balanced sugar?
