Hello everyone! I am new to these boards. I did post an intro, but thought I would do it here, too.

I have a 6 y.o boy and a 2 y.o. girl. I am about 75% raw...goal to be about 90%. Same for my kids.

I have a question...I will be traveling at the end of this week for about 16 hours in a car with my kids and 2 dogs, by myself. And, no, I don't own a minivan  It will be crowded. To relieve some of the tension, I was hoping to make and bring our own foods with us. Could you all please give me some ideas as to what types of raw foods to bring with. I plan on the obvious ones, like apples, pears, dried fruits, veggies, etc. However, my kids love things that we can make together, such as a raw cookie for example. Since I am fairly new to this lifestyle, though, I am at a loss.

Help!!

I would get some raw carob (I buy it at the Health food store in the bulk herbs section) and make Alissa's fudge balls. They are a great sweet treat for the kids. If you roll them in ground nuts or carob, they keep well in a tupperware on a trip.

Also, make a pate the kids like and bring it along with veggie sticks.

And of course your ideas of lots of fruit and other veg is important.

I'm sure others will have better suggestions!

Welcome! I hope you'll have time before you go to go check out the recipe section, lotsa good stuff there!

Kids LOVE to make smoothies, & if you've got a good thermos, they're great for on the road! & very filling!

If they get weirded out about the greens, have them leave the room to go do a special job, then put the greens & BLUEBERRIES in, they hide all sorta colors! (Rasberries or cranberries, too! Use lots!)

Also, my daughter's fave (& it would travel well) is applesauce...just apples, water, a cup or so of any kind of berries or other fruit, (not necessary, but makes it even yummier! peaches, pears, work great, too!) & a little lemon to keep it from going brown, then spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves (in small amounts, or it numbs your mouth, which is why the whole ones work great for toothaches!) & even a little grated or powdered ginger!

Remember to stop at least every two hours for 15-20 minutes, get them having races, running, jumping, using their muscles...it'll help cure the restless "Are we there YET?!?!?!?" moments...to some degree, anyways!
