does eating a specific favorite food almost daily risk causing a food allergy?
For example, I use fresh squeezed lemons, tahini (raw of course), greens, garlic, cayenne on a nearly daily basis.

From what I have read so far, assuming the foods you mention are organic, it is not likely. That being said, if they are not organic, some allergies are actually sensitivities to chemicals in/on the foods you show an allergic reaction to. Some of the affects are cumulative. Meaning, you might get away with eating it once in a great while but if your body isn't able to detox the chemical you are allergic to you could/would show a reaction each time you eat it. Also, let's say you are only mildly allergic to several substances that singly do not give a noticable reaction. Mix several of those substances together and maybe throw in some stress from something going on at home or work or getting over being sick and you could have a totally different ball game. That is why pinpointing specific allergies can be so difficult sometimes. Hope this helps.

If you are prone to food allergies, then yes, eating a food every day can cause an allergy. If you are not prone to allergies then it's unlikely you will get one. Do people in your family have good allergies? My mom has them, I have them and so does my daughter.

I believe that its possible. i used to eat about 3-4 globes of garlic a week (...) and it showed up as a 'moderate' allergy. tested about a year later and it was more normal.

yes, I always buy organic. and stress, well ya know, I do what I can about that.
I was never convinced of the idea about eating this or that for x number of days to avoid allergy, though I do see the point in variety.
thanks Andy. this is good to hear.

Hey Juliebove, I don't have any major health issues that I know of, just little bity random and annoying ones that come and go. Some come back too often or stick around for too long.
It's often difficult to decipher what is a specific food allergy, verses what is caused by stress, or city fumes, or office mold and regular extermination "services". Just doing some detective work. lol
My family? Well they have always lived on diet coke, cheese bugers & fries, sugar and cigarettes. um, yes, they have allergies. and, arthritis, diabetes, colon cancer, lung cancer, asthma, etc. sure wish I could help them - but that's another story. not to sound bleak, but...:(
thanks for sharing your personal experience with allergies.

mmmmm, garlic. yes, I consume that much. It seems favorable to me - maybe not those near me however.

The allergy can worsen to the point of making your throat feel as if it is swelling shut, and you cannot breathe, and is is very dangerous when it gets this bad. I have had to go to the hospital and get an IV because I had a reaction not knowing that I had eaten something I was allergic to. When eating out, I stay away from anything that is mixed like salads, or mixed fruits.

that's terrible Linda, sorry to hear about your experience.
I'm lucky, I have never had any severe anaphylactic response like that. As I said in above posts, I've only experienced minor/moderate irritants like ringing ears, hives, itching, itchy eyes... Ofcourse, these may not be a food allergies at all.. still trying to figure it out.
Has anyone had testing done by an allergist?? I haven't. Is it safe? care to share? I rarely use Western medical services, but have considered this type of testing.
as far as my diet goes, I've been pretty much organic, raw, vegan since about 2003- (vegan since 1987) and haven't taken prescribed or over the counter meds since the early 90's.
any advice?
