I've very recently transitioned from vegan/high raw to a 100% raw vegan lifestyle. One of the things I've immediately noticed is that even after going to bed rather late, I wake up very early. As the sun rises, so do I. So, that has me wondering what it is about consuming raw food that results in the body needing less sleep? Any ideas?

i don't know... i typically go to bed at 10 pm towake up at 5 am. since being raw, i start to naturally wake up an hour or so earlier.... so i wonder if i should go to bed a little later.

I've always felt that when you're being healthy, you actually don't need much sleep. Similar to how the meditation gurus are.

It's probably because since the food is so alive it makes you feel more alive. :)

I read somewhere a long time ago that when you are eating raw food, your body doesn't have to use alot of energy to digest it, so you just have more energy in general and don't need as much rest. I don't know if it's true, but it does make sense.:)

Sleep is when the body repairs itself. Seems like if you're doing less damage to your body each day, there are fewer repairs to make.

Meat and grains are a huge stress on the body and it takes more sleep/recovery time.:p

I'm still logging in 12 or more hours of sleep whenever I get a chance, and I'm sleepy on only 8 hours. I'm hoping raw will eventually balance me out to need less sleep!

Yes, this makes a lot of sense! We rejuvenate our cells when we're sleeping. So there is less need of repair eating raw foods. We've gotten used to being ill in this culture and it's actually not the norm to sleep long hours and wake up tired. No wonder our ancestors got a lot done! When they were eating raw foods that is... LOL.

Edit: Well maybe it is the norm for some to sleep longer hours...individual body need. I thought I should add that in...don't like using the normal word.
