Hey all... I need a grounding breakfrast, low-gly, which will both satiate my hunger AND promote concentration- not the opposite, which occurs as a result of eating solely fruit, and even more so when I eat green smoothies, even if I add avacado or nuts/seeds to them. In fact, smoothies *green or not* not only make me the biggest head-achey space cadet, but they put me to sleep, and are what I turn to when I have insomnia... So please, that's not a suggestion:/ If I eat whole fruit, I don't get such a drastic reaction, but my blood sugar is all over the place until I eat something substantial... I'll never feel satiated, I feel jittery, and my energy levels are all over the place... PLEASE HELP!!!!! Thank you:cool:

my most favorite filling grounding breakfast is raw oatmeal... here's how i make it:
soak raw buckwheat groats 24 hours. rinse and drain. amount is up to you... i use enough for about 4 generous servings
in a food processor, process the groats, an apple, raisins, goji berries, flax seeds, some salt and cinnamon. or put in whatever kind of combination of fruit/nuts/seeds that you like.
that's it.
sometimes i slice a little banana in it or put in some almond mylk.

How long have you been raw and what % are you? That has quite a bit of impact on how your blood sugar will react. When I include cooked foods especially breads, which I rarely do, my blood sugar is all over the place the next day. As for smoothies, the only way I can drink them is with extra virgin olive oil added. You have to have fats in order to keep your blood sugar stable. For some reason, nuts don't work the same for me as liquid raw fats do.

I can't make oatmeal, unfortunately... grains make me sleeeeepy and bloated, and send my blood sugar levels all over the place. I'll just end up overeating... and then overeating again at night. Happens every single time. This is part of what's so difficult for me being raw, as the only thing that doesn't make me sleepy or bloated, and doesn't cause my blood sugar to go hay-wire, are meat products, and I hate eating them... for moral AND hygenic reasons:/ Salads are wonderful for me, but not ideal for breakfrast..
I will try the green smoothie one more time with olive oil or flax oil, thank you. I've been about 90% raw (aside from yesterday when I got food poisening) for the past couple of weeks, but I have been raw in the past for a few months, and continually had the same reaction to smoothies.
Revvell I've been listening to all your podcasts on itunes the past couple of weeks, so nice to get a response!!! :D Love your interviews.... How do you make raw lasagna?!??!?! Sounds stabalizing and yummy.....

do any of you think it might have something to do with the frozen berries I add to my smoothies? There's something about frozen berries- even when organic and whole, without any additions (ofcourse)- that just tastes so artificial to me... Not like fresh berries AT ALL... And this altered taste does not occur when I freeze my own bananas....
What're you're thoughts?

here's the perfect breakfast for you love.... no nuts... no grains.... hardly any fruit.... and the fruit is not necessary if it's too much for you. it taste just like oatmeal. my blood sugar is crazy and this is the only thing that works for me. i discovered it over a week ago and have had it at least once a day.
2-4 T flax ( ground in a coffee mill )
2-4 T hemp seeds ( ground in a coffee mill )
1 banana
a little water or coco milk or any juice - you can't really taste it either way
any superfood of choice. my favs are tocotrienals, maca, coconut oil ( really good for blood sugar and stabilizing metabolism ) a good probiotic ( i like mixing this in now cause you can't taste it )
- add any dried fruit or anything else of your choice to mix in. i really like raisins
mix the flax, hemp, liquid and superfoods. mash up banana and put it in the mix. add any topping of your choice.
I know you said you can't do fruit.... is one banana too much even with the flax and hemp? if you can't do any sweetner or banana maybe try yacon syrup or stevia. yacon syrup isn't as sweet as agave or honey... but it does add good flavor ( like mollasses ) and doesn't do anything to your blood sugar. also hemp seeds tend to act differently in my body than other seeds ( sunflower etc... ) i hope they work for you. they're like my miracle food. it's really wonderful.
hope this helps!!!

As I stated to you in your post about dehydrating recipes, you should invest in Alissa's book and DVD's. All of the recipes Revvell mentioned are in it...and many more. It is a great investment and pretty cheap for all that you get!

Energizing and nutritious, buckwheat is available throughout the year and can be served as an alternative to rice or made into porridge.
While many people think that buckwheat is a cereal grain, it is actually a fruit seed that is related to rhubarb and sorrel making it a suitable substitute for grains for people who are sensitive to wheat or other grains that contain protein glutens. Buckwheat flowers are very fragrant and are attractive to bees that use them to produce a special, strongly flavored, dark honey.

How would one prepare buckwheat? I've seen it before, and I even bought a small bag recently, but I wasn't sure how to make it? I'm new to sprouting btw...

Very grounding. Very tasty as well. Alissa has a really easy one in her book. Since hers requires dehydrating (I only do about 6 hours instead of however long she states ~ I've also combined hers with the one in Raw Food, Real World. SO good! Non-raw advocates cannot tell the difference.
Thank you for listening!
Now that we've settled into our new home, more to come! :)

soaked buckwheat is a miracle for me. I make porridge, crackers, etc. I am very sensitive to grain, even sprouted, but I can do buckwheat with no problems. I love to have buckwheat porridge in the morning with sesame milk. It's great in this cold michigan weather and I always feel grounded and sustained from it.

Ground up flax seeds, mixed with nut milk, a banana or 2, dash of cinnamon, some agave and maybe some nuts...works great for me........also ground up organic oat groats soaked the night before in nut milk works good too:D

When I was trying to stay low-gly I would make a savory smoothie. It was "warm" which was nice during colder weather.....this is how I made mine (it's more like soup)
1 avo
some celery (1-2 stalks)
about 1 cup or 1 1/2 cups tomatoes (for me, about 3 Romas)
greens
spices like you would use for a salsa ( I like sea salt, cilantro, chili powder, cumin)
1 peeled cucumber
some water
I think that's about it. Filling and NOT sweet, and YES, I did eat this for breakfast!! Matter of fact, I think I'll make one of these tomorrow!:D
By the way, I always liquify my greens in the water first, then add everything else. I've also added stuff like evoo, or coconut oil before....you know, add whatever you want, even high protein stuff like hemp seeds/powder.
Good luck.

Hey, this may not be the answer you're looking for but I used to go through what you just described, I remember I couldn't even eat a banana or dates because then my blood sugar would spike and I'd be suddenly devastatingly hungry and overeat real bad. I still have issues with blood sugar and overeating but it's much better now.
What I did was have just grapefruit for breakfast - they're amazing. They are easy to digest (I can't digest grains/nuts well - I only recently found out!) They had no effect on my blood sugar even when I was really sugar sensitive (so I couldn't even take apples) I had the really big kinds, didn't totally satisfy my hunger but after a few days I grew to like the feeling because then I had energy which otherwise have gone toward digestion.
And then 2~3 hours later I have my green smoothie for an early lunch (I have 4 meals a day) which still gives me that bloated feeling but I'm perservering in drinking that daily, believing that this is what is making the positive changes in my body. I was really amazed to find that I can now eat chocolates or sweet deserts without feeling like I'll die if I don't eat more. (A pricey exchange for a slip up lol) I'm going to the doctor tmw to see if I can get the hydrochloric acid pill.
Well I'm not sure if my story was relevant but hoped it help anyways :)

Thank you all so much for your suggestions!!!!!! Some of your suggestions are toooo yummy and sweet, so I know I'll have problems with the overeating aspect, but I want to try them, anyway hehe... I'll try rotating each suggestion w/in the next week. Ah, which one to choose first:D :D :D Just bought some coconut oil and hemp seeds, I'll have to try those out tomorrow with a banana or green smoothie, before I get a hold of some buckwheat to try out...
Apple: For the longest time I was eating grapefruit in the mornings and LOVED it, but sadly, my stomach did not... made my stomach a bit acidic and didn't satiate my hunger for very long (given that I wake up at 7 and get my lunch break at 1, this isn't optimal)... But I still think they're wonderful, and definately agree that they are optimal for those who have blood sugar problems. May I ask what you do about your inability to digest nuts/seeds well? I too have the same problem... Very sensitive stomach, clearly:/ They also make me itch often... But I love them so much I can't live without em!!!
