.....geeez! This is the second time I've eated raw brocolli...in a salad...last time I had it marinated....and about 24 hrs later or a bit less, I have the SBD's
{Small But Deadly} gas! It is really gross...has a sulpher like smell...and it LINGERS for a while in the air! My poor husband...I heard him come upstairs after I had gone to bed and he made some kind of exclamation and after brushing his teeth sprayed his deoderant in the air!!!!!! I've linked it to the brocolli...but isn't that a long time in my system? The first time it happened, I swear I could smell it coming out of my skin!..Is this a good sign that my system is clearing out? or a sign I should stay clear? The second time I didn't eat as much, but still had the same reaction. I'm on my second month of 100%. When I ate SAD, I recall eating raw brocolli in a salad or dip and not having this reaction...............any thoughts? Thank you! and Thank you for reading this, I know you guys might understand this better than anyone else? and maybe I'll wait to try brocolli again until Spring when the windows are open??!!!

I'd say it's a good sign that it isn't digesting properly in your GI and may not agree with you. You are too funny! :-)

Dr. Fuhrman says that broccoli has to be cooked, at least steamed, to be eaten because it has enzyme inhibitors raw and is very difficult to digest. I am 100% raw so I'm not eating it anymore, but raw broccoli never really sat well with me, so I agree with him.

Well I would experiment a couple more times, but yes, perhaps with open windows, lol.

I LOVE raw broccolli, but can't digest it (causes too much bloating). For some people cooked sulphur foods even produce more gas.

David Wolfe has a nice article on sulphur foods, he recommends combining them with a fatty food and a salty vegetable (like celery, kale, dandelion, spinach, and chard), for proper balance and to reduce gas. Try it and experiment a little and tell us if it works!

I have the same problem with raw broccoli. I don't like it and it doesn't like me either. I don't like the texture or the flavor and I really don't like the SBD's. Now on the SAD I loved broccoli, but come to think of it, it didn't like me then either. Oh well, so now I just don't buy it. I leave it alone and it leaves me alone. Thank goodness. :D

Raw broccoli and all cruciferous veggies are extremely difficult to digest, both raw and cooked. Just stay away from it unless you really love it! :-)
