Hey all... I'm not sure if a thread like this has been started yet, but I wanted to know if you all could share some of your favorite recipes for all the newbies and/or people on a budget who DON'T own a dehydrator... Thank you!!!:D

Do you have Alissa's book? There are lots of recipes in it that don't call for dehydrating and even if it does, you don't have to use one. My favorite recipe in her book is blueberry pie....yummy. The DVD's are also very helpful to have.

This is gonna sound harsh to some of the people here but I gotta say it. Don't bother with trying to get specific recipes that do not call for a dehydrator. I have tried a few times and all I get is to be told to get Alissa's book (which took me a year to get because I have a family of 8 and one income and we never have "extra money", sometimes we don't have enough for our needs) or I am told that every recipe can be done and eaten without a dehydrator, which is true but it's not the SAME when you are trying to transition! Sometimes I get sick of cold, mushy food, hence the word "transition". LOL
So, coming from a person trying to do raw again and who keeps craving all the SAD foods and wants raw foods that have a texture other than mush and would like to replicate them this is all I can do is offer advice.
I attempted raw last year, did it 2 months about 90%. Failed at it because my mouth was wanting TEXTURE and foods that were very much like the cooked foods. Just until I got my body and mind where it needed only simple foods. I asked around about dehydrator free recipes and never got any recipes, only "Alissa's Book" replies. I have the book NOW and yes, she does have a lot of yummy dehydrator free recipes but if you don't have her book and have no way of obtaining her book anytime soon, how does that help you NOW??? That's what I always thought when anyone suggested it to me or anyone else!
So, advice. I found a few people on here who offered the advice of warming soups (the cold raw soups made me gag) and to use my oven as a temporary dehydrator until I can get one. I have used the technique of the oven "dehydrating" successfully. I am sure it does not achieve the same effects of a real one and is not ideal as you have to watch the temperature and make sure it does not get too hot and leave your oven open, it's a bit tedious but I was craving burgers and so last night I did Alissa's burgers with my oven open and an oven themomitor and it was fairly good, it cured the craving for something other than soft mushy nuts processed up with spices and served cold!
So there's a tip on doing that and I have a web site I like, it's all raw recipes and it actually has a search where you can find recipes that call for only the appliances you have on hand. Like if you ONLY have a blender and food processor, you can search recipes that require only those. Etc.
It's:
www.goneraw.com
And there's a lot of great recipes on there.
I hope this helps a bit!:D
Here's one from Ani Phyo's raw cooking series.
Eggless Breakfast Scramble
In a processor toss in...
1 cup almonds, dry
1/2 cup sunflower seeds, dry
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
1 teaspoon tumeric
1/2 cup filtered water
Put in a bowl.
Ani makes it Spanish style by adding
Fold these ingredients into the bowl mixture.
1/4 cup cilantro
1/2 cup tomato, diced
2 Tablespoons scallions, chopped
1 batch Love the Chicks Pate
1/2 cup spinach leaves
pinch black pepper

Dear zig_zag,
I thought you might want to hear from someone that has an EX dehydrator, but rarely uses it. Why?, you might ask.....because I find it is not necessary. My favorite raw meals are raw tacos and sushi. I got the sunflower seed "refried beans" recipe on this site. I made up my own sushi "rice" recipe. So, for me, I found things that I liked without running up my electric bill with the EX. I would do as violetsareblack states if you want something warm or crunchy (use oven with door open). Otherwise, please feel confident that there are lots of wonderful recipes that do not need a dehydrator. I always thought I would have to have all the "tools" to be raw. I was fortunate that when I went raw, years ago, that I had the funds to purchase the tools. BUT I rarely used them and rarely use them to this day. I usually use a cutting board and sharp knife! The second most used tool is my blender, which is a very inexpensive brand. I have a VM, but I am not that fond of it...this thought will go against everything you read on this site! BUT it's true. It is a pain in the *** to clean, so I opt for my easy to clean $30.00 blender. The third most used tool in my kitchen is an inexpensive food processor.
The moral to this RAW story....if this is what you want to do...YOU CAN DO IT!!! You DO NOT need a lot of stuff!
I love violetsareblack's idea about goneraw.com. I had no idea there was an option to put in what appliances you have and up pop recipes. That is so cool!
Good luck!!!

It seems it'd be a little impossible? :(
I did the oven for the corn chips and they turned out fine but have not tried it yet for breads.

Violetsareblack, would you mind posting your method for making your oven-dehydrated corn chips? Oh man, I think I could get by just fine if I had tortilla chips with my chili, guac and salsa! My ultimate comfort food!! (I'm originally from Texas :)) Thank you!!
And I can totally relate to the frustration re: Alissa's book.. all the recipes sound so freakin wonderful, but I can't find anywhere to buy it and get it shipped to Ireland. :( The used ones that Amazon.co.uk carries are 75 GB pounds!! Thats like $160!!! I'm gonna have to get one of my family members back home to buy it and send it to me! :o
