View Full Version : I went to GREZZO!!!!!!!

Oh my god! We ate at Grezzo, Alissa’s restaurant last night. It was the most amazing experience.

The restaurant is so gorgeous. It is warm and cozy and has such a great feel to it. The paintings on the walls are spectacular.

Now on to the wait staff. I have never in my life (my husband and I travel and eat out a lot) been waited on by such a knowledgeable, friendly and professional staff. I didn’t want to leave because our waitress was so nice. We just loved talking to her.

And of course, the best part, the food! I have eaten at pure food and wine in NY and some of the best cooked food restaurants in the world and I have to say that Grezzo is one of the best restaurants we have ever dined at.

The food is so fresh and bursting with flavor. It’s not a lot of dehydrated stuff or food that has been sitting around. They make everything fresh that day. You can even walk into the kitchen (rather, you have to walk in to the kitchen to get to the bathroom) and view everything. Our waitress explained that even the spices and herbs were the freshest possible. They use whole spices, like nutmeg and shave it over the dish as is needed. The vanilla is whole vanilla bean, not extracts. You can see all of this lines up on jars as you walk through the kitchen.

Our waitress also explained that the chocolate tomatoes (a variety of heirloom tomatoes) were from Grezzo’s specialty produce buyers who have their own greenhouses. The cheese as well as the tomatoes in the caprese salad were so fresh and better than a ‘real cheese’ caprese salad anywhere!
We had the lasagna and the land and sea for entrees, the gnocchi and creamy spinach ravioli for appetizers and a parsnip and green apple soup that tasted like fresh vanilla beans with hints of underlying flavors.

For dessert my husband had the cheesecake with was fantastic and there was a special, Neapolitan ice cream in between ginger snap cookie. I think I could live on these.

We live about ˝ hour away but I would eat there every night. I know I’ll be there at least once a week. They also do take out and will prepare food for a few days worth of meals. The prices are very reasonable.

So can you tell that this is one of the most exciting things that have happened to me this year, the opening of Grezzo! :D
If you haven’t been, you must go there, run, don’t walk!

Sounds so wonderful. My mom and I are on Martha's Vineyard, and we're (depending on the weather) probably heading to Boston for the day tomorrow. If we go, we will definitely have dinner at Grezzo. :)

Wow, that is such a nice review! I am a server at Grezzo... I work every night but I didn't take care of you when you ate with us, you must have had Nikki? Feel free to introduce yourself the next time you are in (sounds like you are going to be a regular!)... I love meeting people from the board in person!

Thanks again for the lovely words. Grezzo is really special, a lot of care and love go into the food preparations... we have a very hard working family there! The rewards are great... each guest leaves so happy, whether they are raw or not, they LOVE the food and the dining experience.

Thanks for joining us, hope to see you again soon!

Hello everyone!

This is to let everyone know that there is a thread about Grezzo at Raw Freedom Community. You might find some posts fascinating as I have included some interesting tidbits about North End where Alissa's restaurant is located.

http://www.rawfreedomcommunity.info/forum/showthread.php?t=2035

Looking forward to meeting anyone from both RFT and RFC at Grezzo

WOWEEEEEE!!!!!!!!! FINALLY made it to GREZZO and FINALLY met Alissa FACE TO FACE What a fabulous time we had! NYButterfly served us and did such a great job making suggestions and helping us to sort through things, cuz I just wanted one of each item on that scrumptious raw menu!!! Thanks so much Amie and Thanks to you, too, Alissa for being such a gracious hostess!!! Such a pleasure to meet you; I really don't know how you juggle all you do, but what a great opportunity you have here in Boston to really raise awareness of eating RAW..... When we were walking back to our car, we noticed LOTS of empty seats in the surrounding restaurants, but the lines at Grezzo - right out to the sidewalk - says it all!!! CONGRATULATIONS on the huge success Grezzo is becoming!!!

Ok, ok, you all want to know what we ate!!!! We started off with the most yummy Lime Mojito made with kombucha tea and fresh mint---- could not even believe how delicious and refreshing this was!!! VERY IMAGINATIVE Then for starters, we ordered the Gnocchi Carbonara - Delicious and tasty dumplings with a wonderful creamy rawmesan AND a very tasty Vanilla Parsnip and tart Green Apple Soup..... (there were two of us, so we shared everything) .....THEN Land and Sea - a tasty variety of mushrooms layered with ricotta and sea vegetables (this was delish ) and Vegetable Lasagna with bechamel and breadsticks - crunchy and delicious; the sauce complimented the vegetables so well - Are you drooling yet?????

THEN even tho neither one of us had much room left, we still had to continue (I mean, come on, we're at Alissa's GREZZO!!).... A sample of Chocolate Fudge Cake (OOOOHHHH, SOOOOO DECADENT - thanks, (((((((Alissa)))))))) ..... and two Neapolitan ice cream sandwiches with Ginger Snap Cookies ........... RAW HEAVEN!!!!

Grezzo was easy to get to, too!! The ride in and out was much easier than we thought and FUN, FUN, FUN!!!! AND don't forget to say hello to NYButterfly (Amie) when you go.... She was so cheerful and helpful; matter of fact everyone was, but still say a special hello to Amie and don't forget to mention your RF screen name!!

THANKS TO EVERYONE AT GREZZO for making our Raw experience so memorable and FUN!!! Much Love and Great Big Hugs to all!!

Oh it's never too early to book... I took a reservation for July 4th already! I don't know when we will start doing brunch, though. It's very much up in the air right now.

DHARMAGIRL!!!! What fun it was serving YOU, the one person I have to thank for introducing me into the raw food lifestyle and telling me about Alissa Cohen. If it weren't for you I'd still be a bloated, malnourished little girl... and now here I am, healthy and working for Alissa! A living dream :) Alissa loved your enthusiasm and gratitude... we all did, it's so contagious! Thank you for coming in, and thank you for the wonderful review!

I can't wait to meet everyone from RFT... I've met so many at Grezzo already and it's so much fun to put faces with names :)

Oh, and look for pics of our food on the website soon!

wyjoz, sounds like fun! I have no idea if I'll be around in August, but either way I'm sure you will all have fun...

I did go to Grezzo tonight with my mom, and NYbutterfly, you were so right about the reservation! I just didn't see your post until now, and we weren't sure about our schedule but figured we'd be in at 530 or 6 and that was so early it likely wouldn't matter.

Boy, was I wrong! The place was packed, and Alissa and her really super staff were nice enough to do some finagling to fit us in. :)

I will definitely go again when I have another occasion to go to Boston and have time for dinner!

Hey Wyjoz, I heard that someone from Oregon called to make a reservation for August and I assume that was you? The girl who answered is new, I know she said to call back when the time gets closer... but we can definitely take that reservation now. So if you want to call again or let me know the info we will be more than happy to book that date for you :) But then again the number of people might change, so whenever you have a definite number. I can't wait to meet everyone!

Oh, and the menu changes weekly so who's to know what the menu will be in August... it's just going to have to be a surprise!!!

Eva, glad you and your mom were able to eat with us. That place gets insanely busy, but it's a good thing!

Hey Amie!

Yeah, that was Jozzie who made the call for both of us last night. We both would like to fill up Alissa's restaurant with members from both RFT and RFC on August 10th. For our information, the total seating capacity is 32 (29 for the tables and 3 for the bar). Is that correct?

We have ten people so far. There is a lot of time between now and then. We should be able to reach the desired number by then.

Is there anyone else wanting to join us for brunch (1st choice if it is available by August) or dinner? Just do a post either here or at RFC. The link about Grezzo at RFC is:

http://www.rawfreedomcommunity.info/forum/showthread.php?t=2035

Listen everybody, this is your golden opportunity to meet members from various parts of the country, including the famed Josephine "Jozzie" Lee (aka wyjoz), who came up with an amazing Lemon Poppyseed Cake recipe for Anna Tipps' (aka maraw) Purely Delicious Magazine! Please think about it and then make your August plans.

Thanks, Amie, for getting back to us. I am sure Jozzie will be getting in touch with you to work out the details.

Looking forward to seeing you all!

om Amie:
Hi! I just read your post of RFT... when I get to work
today I will make a note in the reservations book that
we will have a full seating (we can fit 33 total).
Now, we do 3 seatings... 5, 7, and 9 pm. Which time
would you like? I also need your full name and phone
number so we can contact you eventually to confirm.

Sounds like it's going to be a fun time! If you can
just get all that info to me, that'd be great, and a
firm number on the amount of people would be helpful,
too.
Thanks! Feel free to email me with questions and info...Amie

RESERVATIONS FOR 5 P.M. UNLESS WE CAN DO BRUNCH OR
3 P.M. ????? CROSS MY FINGERS??? BRUNCH?????

Amie; o.k. I hope I answered your questions in the e-mail. If you think of anything else????? you got my number and e-mail. Keep in Touch.

Can't wait; See you at Grezzo's !

So I have gone to Grezzo twice for large pick up/take out orders and all i can say is AMAZING!

The food is so delicious, the staff is so friendly and helpful, I would eat here every single day if I could.

House salad - soft baby lettuce with house-made cheese, croutons and green goddess vinaigrette
- the "cheese", croutins and dressing are fabulous - very tasty!

Vegetable lasagna - winter vegetable lasagna layered with béchamel and house-made pomodoro and fresh oregano
- I ate half of this and had the other half with a salad the next day - the flavors and wonderful!!!

Bright lights Swiss chard crepes - avocado and greek quinoa. Sweet palastine lime, nectarine and fennel salad. Brazilian tzatziki
- I had this for dinner last night, so light and very delicious.

Both desserts - Decadent deep dark chocolate fudge cake - strawberry moat and blueberry and Sinfully delicious cheesecake - fresh berries, kiwi and lavender - I cannot do these desserts justice with words - oh so good!!!

I am SUPER new to raw so my insight may be limited, but this place is KILLER. My mom is so NOT raw and she loved the food.

Def check out Grezzo if you can!!! I know I will be back there next weekend.

I'm here in CO so Dharma Girl if you plan on visiting us in Boulder, let me know. We plan our rawlucks in advance so would want to have one built around your arrival.

OMG. Greezo.

We don't have anything like this or close to it in CO so I am jealous for me, but happy for those who can get there.

I am pursing my professional speaking career so would love some talks down in that area. I can see many meals then at Greezo's while there talking. I would not mind travelling there often too. I'm always opened ears to connections. Feel free to email me as I talk on humor, power of words in communication, conflict resolution, and customer service dynamics. Basically it all sums up to loving the process of communications and laughing your way through it all.

Thanks for the great feedback. Our new menu looks great. The sliders are a huge hit already. Havn't tried anything yet, as I am fasting (pure torture when working at Grezzo)!

I just saw this thread and had to chime in...

Went to Grezzo twice last week, just before and after doing Alissa's teacher certification class.

It was SOOOOO incredible, I have honestly never had such wonderful gourmet raw food. The first time I went last week was just after flying into Boston, met up with my roommate there for the duration of the class, and all of us ordered the Chef's tasting.

OMG, it was so much food, I could hardly finish it all. My favorite was the brownie sundae....the cacoa ice cream kept me buzzing all night LOL, it was so rich and chocolaty!!!

Definitely go there if you ever get the chance...

Hi Everyone!

Oh my Grezzo goodness! I am flying all the way from Maui and going to Grezzo next week. I am so excited! Everyone thinks I am crazy to fly all the way across the country for food. At least I am crazy for good healthy Alissa food!
I guess I should just get many to go dishes and stock up the hotel fridge. I feel like a kid who won the Willy Wonka ticket.

I just got some to go from Grezzo - and the sliders are sooooo good.

I love this place, the staff is amazing, Chef Leah is awesome and seeing Alissa there is fantastic.

I gush about this place constantly, but I can't help it! It is such a joy to have such an amazing place to eat in Massachusetts!

Next week I want to try the spicy cacao cake and the papaya steak - I have heard both items are awesome!!!!

I'm going this week:

What are you guys favorite meals? I'm sensitive to nuts and seeds; are there menu options that don't use them?

I'd really like to try a soup; even if it has nuts in it, I feel like I'll risk it.

Hi Moth ,

Yes, there are definitely nut free options. Leah is changing the soup this week from corn and sweet potato – grapefruit, to a fennel -coconut and a melon one and both of these have no nuts!

The papaya steak does not have nuts on the dish at all. The salad and the seaweed salad as well can easily be made with no nuts. Leah will also make you a special dish is you call ahead and request her to do so.

The ravioli is my favorite!!! But it does have a nut cheese, but its very light so if your going to splurge go for that!

Enjoy!
