You'll have to forgive me... we don't really have food-carrying health food stores around here... so I get my nuts etc. from the bulk barn. Just wondering if their raisins are o'kay. They don't look sugar coated. Anyone else use them... or always organic?

I was just asking about the nuts and seeds from there too. They do carry a lot of variety and healthy snacks. I don't know about the raisins though. Since they are dried grapes I guess it would depend on the dehydration method.

Hi,

Funny you mentioned this, I just got back from buying stuff at bulk barn. I buy mostly nuts from there and have bought some raisins there before. I strive to be 100% but I know that I cannot always go for organic or health food store brands where I live so I compromise. The nuts at bulk barn are labeled: raw sunflower seeds, raw cashews, etc. I know cashews are never "Truly" raw but I think these cashews are good enough for me.

As for the dried fruits, all of them seem to have sulfur dioxide which I really think we should try to avoid. If you don't eat a lot of raisins then I would say it is all right. Actually bulk barn always has the little red papers that describe what ingredients each bin contains. You can see either: sulfur dioxide, grapes, sugar. Most raisins won't have sugar, but some of other dried fruits do (like cranberries).

So just take a look, do some research about whether you want to trust bulk barn with their sulfur dioxide dried fruits. :)
