I was speaking to my mother yesterday. She was telling me about her health problems. lots of them. I was telling her to start reading about the raw diet and raw foods for health. I told her how much I loved to eat raw corn and she went nuts. She said raw corn will give you worms. SHe even had my Grandma call and tell me the same thing. Is my family nuts??
Have any of you ever gotten worms or parasites from raw foods?????
P.S. My mom always finds a reason not to do anything healthy.

The funny thing about that is that most people who eat SAD also have parasites. Most people in general do...but just never know it. I used to do parasite cleanses when I felt particularly freaked out by the thought of something invading my body, but don't know for certain that I had any...just guessing, since it's so common.

Found this on the internet from a Biologist.
QUESTION: Is it safe to eat a cob or corn that has been host to a corn worm. I just cut off the area and rinse well. On the other hand my daughter will not feed her family corn that has had worms even at the tip. She says that it could have laid eggs and could cause infestation of worms in humans. I disagree but have not been able to get that out of my mind. Is it safe to eat the untouched part?
ANSWER: Yes, it is safe. I chew on raw corn all the time in fields.
Your daughter should have studied her Biology in high school. The two groups of worms are totally unrelated. Several cultures eat larva (worms) as part of their normal diet.

Corn worms are not the same type of worms in the body.
People get worms by ingesting infected food - and I believe meats are the only foods that get infected by body living worms.
Another way to get worms is go barefoot outside and step in infected animal crap. Or get too close to your pets. Also get bit my infected mosquitoes.
Veggies are safe unless fertilized by animal crap.

I was scared for a minute but I'm glad this one has been cleared up. I bet we eat all types of insects just from not washing our food correctly.. I love raw corn.

You're probably killing worms with some of the raw foods you eat such as pumpkin seeds , garlic, etc.

I've seen worms in corn many times. If I find a cob with a worm in it, I just toss it outside and some critter gets a treat. Yeah, I know I could just pick off the worm, wash it and eat it, but it skeeves me out.
You won't get worms in your body from eating raw corn unless perhaps you actually ate a worm. But they are pretty easy to see.

interesting...
no way to tell what fertilizer is used from the produce stand perspective at the market.
but most fertilizer used is decomposed horse manuer, bat guano, even humauer, etc. right??? Unfortunately I'm not much of a gardener and definitely not a farmer. too bad tho, wish I was, but I'm still reading "organic gardening 101" and dreaming of a garden!
Yes, I've read meat poses the greastest threat (by far) of hosting parasites. Parasites are common. Bugs are a major resident of the planet. It would prove difficult not to be in close contact with them!
If asked, they probably prefer not to be eaten anyway. :p

one could periodically take herbs/foods for parasites - clove, blk walnut hull and wormwood. no?
certain parasites don't like... pumpkin seed, pineapple, garlic, onion, cayenne, lemon. that's all I can think of.
hope this helps.
