View Full Version : raw reality show...

Who among you would be interested in being on a raw reality show?
No joke.
The premise would be that the filming would document your struggles and triumphs while going 100% raw. You would be given a camera and would have to film yourself for a couple of hours a day, making food, decided what to eat, talking, crying, rejoicing about raw with others or to the camera.
The ending would be a big chin-dig with the winner getting the big prize, like $25000.00 cash for the person does the best....
Let me know your thoughtsÂ…you could be the next big raw star!
Thanks,
Alissa

That sounds really interesting. Being new to raw, I'm not sure how I would do in such a reality show. But, some people may find it interesting watching me try and learn what is raw/what's not and trying to create dishes using ingredients that are so new to me! And my frustration when I find what I bought is not raw.....

And dealing with a husband who is totaly unsure of his wife with her newfound Raw Food interest. Especially since he's a restaurant manager.

Plus, it might be the push I need to go 100% Raw.

HA! Great! this gives me a good idea. one thing. i think that the camera's would be mounted in your house, kitchen, living room, etc... Otherwise we wouldnÂ’t see the real juicy stuff since most people donÂ’t want to tape themselves when things get intense. Anyway, canÂ’t give away too many details but if your camera shy this definitely wouldnÂ’t be for you.
Its just a thought that started in the last few days but its already on the move. so ill keep you posted. Just keep posting here if you interested and ill be contacting you soon!
Thanks!

I actually have a camera and tripod so I'd be completely content to film the fiance and me. Filming just talking about how raw helps us and discussing the scientific side, how the family reacts... Maybe would save you some money!

I'm certainly willing to film anything when life gets all hectic and hairy... especially when I slip up because then I can discuss how yucky it makes me feel. :D How exciting!

You said to keep posting if you're interested so i'm posting again! LOL :D

If you check in my journal you will see that I ate some cooked food just recently & the horror story that followed for not only me but my daughter also! I would be willing to do it on camera to document what cooked foods really do to us! And these are typically considered pretty healthy foods! (just to clear it up I will not let my daughter go through that again only myself!)

Oh wow, what a great idea!!! So many people would learn about the raw and living food lifestyle that way! This is really exciting! Get the word out! :D

I'm interested in participating. I still keep my journal, and today is my 37th day. This has been the longest I have ever been raw. A couple of days where I slipped, but all after my 30 days were over. So I really think, being on a show would help me stay focused and on the right path.

I so much want/need to stay raw, because I will have a baby in a couple of weeks and I have a 2 y.o. that is and always was 100% raw. My hubby is not raw, and I don't know if he will ever be ready. He likes a lot of the raw food I make though.

We just moved from CA to OR into a house that sits on 5 acres. So this year I have tried my hand at gardening for the first time and have run into lots of challenges. But I so would love to have some fruits and veggies from my own organic garden. So far it doesn't look too rosy. :o

Yes, I'll do it, my hubby is NOT raw, eats meat, smokes, drinks, so that might be a cool twist, and we grown almost all of our organic fruits and veggies and nuts. so it could be really cool for the audiance to see that.

And I'm in no way shy, plus I need to loose about 125 pounds so you should be able to see a big difference in the before and afters.

Also, been struggling with raw the last week or so.

count me in.

i would be interested depending on when you do it - we are due to have our 2nd child here any time over the next couple of weeks.

my son is almost all raw most of the time, I have been high raw for nearly 2 years this time with on and off bouts of all raw but am wanting to go 100% raw fully after having the baby. my hubby thinks I am nuts but we just try not to talk about it to much and he just lets me do my thing. hubby is a meat eater and junk food eater. oy vey! Anyway, I saw all kinds of healing in my body by changing to this diet when I did it the first time around for 2 years. Then had a year lapse before going for 2 year this time.

I would be interested! Definitely keep me posted on teh details :)

I would definitely love to do this too!!! I also thought about how cool it might be to have a reality show about raw folks!!! I guess great minds think alike!!! I however, pictured the setting like "The Surreal Life" where everyone lives together for a certain amount of time! Wouldn't that be fun?!

I would be in on it!!! Hey, I won $150 going raw, $25,000 doesn't sound too bad!!! :)

(We had a biggest loser contest at school and when I went raw, I lost 30 pounds!)

Halo Aglow
06-09-2005, 07:22 AM
I was thinking this thread was going to mention a situation like Surreal Life also, but was extremely relieved that it didn't. That would probably automatically make a lot of mommies (and daddies) not able to do the contest.

But I would DEFINITELY love to watch something like that!

I'm slowly getting my toddler son to be all raw. I love seeing him "tear up" a whole apple like it's the best tasting thing in the whole world. My husband went raw with me. Come to find out it isn't really that hard being raw as a long distance truck driver! Maybe he can do daily camera logs on the road that can be added throughout my footage. When he comes home he is home for about 4 to 5 days every month. Those are the times I get more inspired to make recipes I've never made before. So that'll definitely show a different change of pace.

We are currently trying to get into an ecovillage about 2 hours away from here. It would be awesome if we were living there while doing this raw contest project!

I am very excited about this contest!

i donÂ’t have details yet, i just wanted to see who was interested and i think i have a good idea now that people would do it.
i thought of the idea of everyone living together but that would count out a lot of people so we decided this would be easier. also thought of a few different angels but cant indulge too much here yet...

I'd love to do this! I just started a summer boot camp where we eat only raw foods for all of the summer months! Of course, the thought of being on camera right now scares me (I need to lose 75 pounds), but I like the idea of a challenge! I have a husband and two children who aren't raw, though my kids eat a lot of fruit. I think this is a great idea that will help many of us finally stick to all raw!

Sure makes one wonder this could be a way for One as me to go totaly RAW and see if there is a real diffrance in how I look and feel.

I am still not 100% but eating healthyer everyday

So you can add my name to the list ( grimices) I know how hard it can be to totaly commit ones self to some thing, but I have never been a quiter, so I think this would be a fun and interisting test of my will.

I think it would be fun to do a raw show. My situation would be kind of differant. I have to fix cooked food for my family-- My husband eats meat, my youngest son age 8, is a lacto-ovo vegeterain (Which I was all my life until now.) and my oldest son age 11 eats meat once in a while. It is a huge challenge to fix cooked food and eat raw. It would be interesting to document the journey. Plus I am trying to lose a lot of wieght. That plays into the challenges as well.

Wow, all these replies are so great! It's wonderful to know that so many people are so excited about this lifestyle. I myself am really new to it (a couple months in) and struggling a bit. And all this talk about everyone's raw and non-raw families has me thinking a lot about my very near future.

I'm getting married in about 10 days (gulp!) and my future husband is a junk-food vegan. At least there will be no animal products in our home, but it's really hard for me to watch him eat things like vegan pizza (dont' have a food processor or dehydrator yet so no pizza for me). This scenario plays itself out over and over in our home: he cooks/orders some old non-raw favorite, I struggle to remind myself why I don't eat that non-food, then often break down and eat it, discover it doesn't taste nearly as good as I remember, and then feel sick for days. Vicious cycle, hey? I could really use more support from him, but I don't think he quite knows how to give it. The funny thing is, he constantly says to me how he wants to improve his diet, yet can't even fathom eliminating processed and cooked garbage. What the heck?

Wow, not really sure where all that came from. Your family posts must have inspired me. :)

I would definately be interested in doing it. I'm in college and its always a struggle to stay raw. While there are crazy parties which draw me away from raw, there is an awesome raw group within the community which helps me find my balance. And not to mention the $25,000 thats a college kids dream! I would definately like to know more about this!

Well, I'm interested too. I'm new to raw as well and have a not-raw husband, no kids yet. How would it work, would the camera equipment be installed for the participants? Does it matter what part of the country they live in? It would be inspirational to see someone in somewhat poor health who's eating the SAD go 100% raw, and see all of the physical and mental changes take place, and also to see how a raw diet plays into social situations.

"Im so excited and I just cant hide it I m about to loose control and I think I like it!"( a singer who I forgot the name of) Ok here goes

I just recently dropped out of college where I was studing to be a dietetic tecnician registered. I droped out to follow a raw food lifestyle which I plan on turning into a career. I currantly spend my days comming up with original recipes and recording them in my raw uncook book and reserching information on raw foods. I am working on a raw food cook book with a twist. I am also scelduled to take your chef training class with Chrissy on march 4. I think that it would greatly benefit your reality show to not just show someone who is trying to loose weight with raw but to show someone who is determined to change there whole life and the lives of others with raw.

I think this is a great idea ONLY if Alissa has the FINAL say in the editing room. I fairly new to raw but have read many books and studied many hours on this way of life, let alone feeling the best ever, I have decided it is definitely for me. I would hate to have to defend this decision if the networks edited the footage in a negative way to make us look different just for ratings. The reason I even bring this up is because even though I don’t watch much TV or reality TV because I work at nights a while ago I happened to watch this show called “WifeSwap”. One of the mothers was a raw foodist and I didn’t think they edited her footage in a positive manner whatsoever and was actually happy that my SAD dh wasn’t home to see it.

I would love to do it. I'm new to raw and am training for the LA marathon. I've been an athlete my whole life but always on a high protein diet because I was anemic and hypoglycemic and that's what the doctor ordered. Life on raw is fascinating to me because it's full of constant contradiction to my previous perceptions.

I have about 20 lbs to lose and a host of physical ailments like allergies, chronic bronchitis, IBS, hypoglycemia and insomnia (to name a few) to get over!

Great idea!

I am pretty new to the raw lifestyle.I am eating about 80-85%raw!and if its not raw its vegan.) I have so much to learn. A show sounds great! I am a homeschooling mom of 3. My kids and hubby all eat meat and my husbands seems unwilling to change! BUT for a challenge I am sure he would go raw!! Mindelicious,

I think the winner would be the one who does raw the best, not who loses the most weight. Unless you meant that you'd be doing some cooked food to gain weight? I've seen pictures of Shazzie and Jinjee while pregnant and 100% raw. They did it well and gained weight. Your body knows what's growing inside of you and will defenatly know how to nourish it on raw. You'll probably gain exactly what you need and not an ounce more. The pics of Jinjee 10 days post partum are incredible: http://thegardendiet.com/beforenafter.html She looks like she was never even pregnant. If I've misunderstood you, what did you mean?

P.S. I would but I'm shy too...besides, I have 2 roommates.

Also Paul was diagnosed with stage 4 indolent lymphoma (metastisized to the bone marrow) 14 months ago...purely by accident. He has lived a healthy life style, so we were totally surprised by this. Since the medical doctors have no cure for this type of lymphoma, and chemo only temporarily inhibits it, Paul has chosen raw food and anti-cancer supplements to hold off the cancers growth. In August, his oncologist was very pleased with the CT scan and had been very supportive of Paul's decision to treat it naturally. Of course, you can't claim a cure, but tracking it might be interesting.

this sounds like it would be fun.

I"m new to this raw journey & would probibly be the perfect example of someone haveing a very hard time with the SAD to RAW transition. I'm up and down constantly trying to be raw, trying to avoid temptations, breaking down in the Target while walking past all the food I can't have. I am lucky enough to have family support, although no other raw family members. I consider it a success if my 5yr old doesn't argue for an hour when I give her a banana.

Anyway, I'll be keeping my eye out for more information. It would be great fun to share the raw journey with others through a visual media.

Yes, I would be interested. However, if I ended up being on tv, I would want to be paid something simply for contributing to the show.

I think that you will have to count me out. Firstly you would probably have to subtitle it to get over the accent and secoundly I am not dramatic enough to appeal to a tv audience. I never get very up or very down or very excited. Many years ago when the kitchen cooker caught fire (my own fault as I should have been raw) I calmly walked out in to the garden to my husband and quitly said "will you come in please". He still tells that story.

I'm interested.... a little shy but its only a camera right?

Just curious for those of us who are single and living alone ....would we be talking to the camera. Too bad they weren't here the first time I tasted the bananna/papaya pudding...... you would have thought I won the lottery.

This would be great motivation! I just ordered Alissa's book and DVD so I am getting ready to do the 30 day challenge. My husband is interested in eating Raw food as well. My biggest challenge would be my 3 and 8 year old boys!

When will the decision about this show be made. Even if I wasn't chosen, it would be good to watch to see how others are doing.

I'd love to do it also...I can picture it now...the focus in my case would be the issues and struggles I have as a single person trying to eat raw coming from a family with a soul-food eating background and involved in a power struggle with my sister to try to get my nieces and nephew to embrace the healthy life style of raw instead of all the SAD crap they eat....

I'm so sorry I didn't see this before! I would love to be involved. I'm still in college -- I think it would be awesome to have at least one college aged raw foodist. I know there are alot of us who will be in New York this summer. It would be so excellent if we could all document our journeys...even more so if we all lived raw in the same residence or something -- a whole different effect!

This sounds really cool, great idea Alissa!
I don't know how old you have to be, but I would love to do it! I don't know how interesting my story would be, but it might be interesting to have someone trying to gain weight as well. dinners with my family where they are sitting down to a steak, potatoes, and microwaved veggies while I have maybe a big beautiful salad with avocado or nuts and they all have aching backs and heart burn and the like while I just feel good and energized after I eat. I am bright and energetic all day long while they seem to be slower and duller, like their light is no longer shining. It's really sad for me to see, but it might show the people watching the difference raw makes.
It's always been my dream to be an actress :)

Well, if I can't be on it I would love to watch it! awesome idea Alissa!

Would love to do this too.

Imagine Mother of Five (ages 2-28) , wife of one. Two athletes in the house, 1 bookworm who only gets up to eat, two toddlers, a weird food person ( me), and one in braces who seldom eats anyhting other than what he's not suppose to. Kids think I'm always tryingsomehting and messing up the groceries. Hubby supports anything.

At the highest noise level in or house you will hear:

A static filled radio station with "krunk" music playing
Continous loops of the call to prayer "Athan" coming from the computer
Two toddlers watching Ice Age for the 50th time
Continuous play Spanish CD coming from (5th yr Spansh) HS daughter's room
The blender, (me) making smoothies
The flute a clarinet being playing in alternating renditions by the same teen
And my DS 12yr running around to everyone trying to get attention

:D

I would love to do this. I am coming from being a total meat and cheese eater with fast food binges. This has been a huge, inspiring, on going transtition for me. I feel that I would be great to help other people like me and that being on camera would give me more accountability and help me cement this change in my life. I have a blog that has already helped me a lot with accountability and has converted some people. I also have a husband and two girls (5 and 8) who aren't going raw but I am trying to add more raw foods into their diets. We all suffer allergies and I am overweight.

Yes!
I live in Toronto. No kids at home, husband totally willing to participate. We were vegans for about 17 years, during which time I gained a terrific amount of weight.
Went back to eating some animal foods for the last 10 years. Dairy and fish at home, meat only when served when we were guests somewhere. No improvement in my weight.
Got cancer. Now am really motivated to make this diet work. I am still having trouble pushing myself right over the top as we eat one cooked meal most evenings.
Yuk! I want off this treadmill! Get a camera on me. I do best under a dare.

I would be very interested! It's a great idea..... so many people turn to raw after a lifetime of unhealthy eating, eating disorders, health issues, etc. And to document the changes & the wonderful outcome would be so inspirational! Can't wait to hear more about it as time goes on!
-Also, a quick welcome to Maine! I live in Falmouth, just North of Portland. There is nothing like the Maine Coastline! We've only been here 3 years, but I know we'll never leave. Can't wait to visit your B&B!

i think you should put everyone away in the same house! less people can participate but i think you could get enough and you wouldn't miss a dramatic moment. :) also people can't turn off the camera and fall off the wagon, this might be the extra push some might need to stick with it.

i'd do it.

can i play the 22 yr young, raw frat boy from las vegas?

Hey Alissa,

I'd love to. I've been raw for about 5 days now and am struggling with it as I think I'm detoxing right now??? Tired, lethargic, puffy eyes (which I normally don't have), extra aches and pains.

I like creating/filming/writing, and it would give me the extra motivation to stick with it.

WOW,
Talk about a lifesaver, my mom just agreed to do this. My mother is a smoker and has Crohns disease, single mother of three. I have been raw on and off for a year...finally i'm 100% and never going back. I dropped out of college last semester and moved to California to pursue my raw dream (basically I just needed more options than plattsburgh, New York could offer). I have been struggling with career options lately because I know that I want to do something in the raw field, however, I am constantly hearing that I need to have a BA to do anything. If I had 25,000 dollars I would take all of Alissa's classes and then I would go to Living Light Culinary Institute in CA. And then I would open my own raw restaurant in the North Country. I know all you rawbies have the same problem, that being that you have so many extraordinary ideas that you could bust!

So sign us up!!!

Oh my goodness that would be so awesome! I really wanted to be on 'The Biggest Loser' but it's only for Americans. Could Canadians be on this? It sounds like such a great idea!

If you are looking for someone who is new to raw and on a very limited budget with only a supermarket and a blender at her disposal, then I'm your gal. I just bought two raw cookbooks and if the weather here on the East Coast ever warms up, I might try sun-drying stuff on my balcony.
