I sprouted some buckwheat to make that delicious chili in Alissa's book. I now have beautiful sprouts with those dark brown shells on them. They are every where. It will take days to get the out of the seedlings. Any suggestions?

ugh. i think you need the raw buckwheat WITHOUT the shells to make sprouts....i would suggest planting these in a tray of dirt to get buckwheat lettuce, if they really have the hard hulls on them. ive never seen buckwheat in the hfs with the hulls still on it but it sounds like thats what you have?

yes, if they didn t have shells you could just throw them in the dehydrator to make buckwheaties (i add agave, cocoa pwdr)
also alissa s almond butter cookies are good, and use buckwheat sprouts....
i thought the chile uses kamut, but anyway i have also made the chilw wo the grain - also good.

I will try that lettuce idea though. Sounds good.
As for the chili - it actually uses barley sprouts. I took level2 and could have sworn we used buckwheat sprouts. Anyway, this time the chili is getting buckwheat sprouts. They are good! Not bitter! Very nice. Took an hour to remove enough husks to get enough for the receipe.
And I bought a 5 pound can! Yes, thanks a TON for the lettuce idea!

A little late.. but I've heard that raw buckwheat sprouts can be toxic.

yeah I read the same thing but as far as I remember it was talking about the lettuce, and if they are dark brown that is meant for the lettuce you want the light ones almost greenish to sprout then eat without having to plant.
