Hi - I'm new here and have been transitioning to raw this month and have only been 90-100% the past few days. I'm breastfeeding a 7.5 month old baby and excersize about 45 mins. a day. I do want to loose a few post preg. lbs (5-8ish) but also don't want to hurt my milk supply. I have no idea how much to eat, whether I'm eating too much/too little etc. I eat when I'm hungry and don't when I'm not... but I'm wondering if there is anyone in a similar situation that could tell me how much they're eating. I just want to know whats a normal range. (after being pregnant, then nursing I feel like I have NO idea what normal eating is like anymore, not to mention normal raw eating):)

Everyone is so different
what one does
the other one should not
Just listen to your body
It'll tell you alot

Yes, just obey your hunger and satisfaction signals and you will be fine! And don't worry about fat intake or anything like that. If you enjoy using coconut oil, and flax or hemp, those fats are great for milk.

I think you are already doing the right thing by eating when you are hungry.

I am nursing an almost 6 month old baby now. I notice changes in my milk supply mostly from the amount of liquid that I am consuming and not from the amount of food.

Concentrate on drinking plenty of water. I drink herbal nursing tea, too. If you are eating a clean, healthy diet, then focus on measuring the liquid intake and not the food!

Best thing is not to worry about it if no problem exists. Even worrying about your milk supply can affect it!

thanks for the responses!
Just a quick question about detoxing - I've read about people having bad/difficult experiences while detoxing and being afraid how the toxins could negatively affect nursing a baby... Has anyone had these experiences? How will I know if my daughter is receiving toxins or having negative experiences because of the way I'm eating?
I've been transitioning for a while and am still only 100% a few days a week. The other days (weekends or dinner with friends) are very close to 100%, but I'm trying not to be anal when I'm around family or friends. Does that make the "detox" time easier?

Thanks!!!

You will pass harmful substances through your milk if you consume 'other then appropriate' foods. AND you will pass them through your milk even if you are 100% optimal with your eating because we live in a very toxic environment nowadays. You and your baby will both benefit GREATLY from eating naturally (you will both have stronger immune systems and will be better able to handle the toxins and get them out), even if you may both 'get sick' aka detox for a minute at first. A little temporary discomfort in the beginning is SO worth the benefits, and you may not even get any discomfort at all. We didn't.

just go slow. if you feel poorly and belive it is due to detox, adding some steamed veg and/or grain to the diet will slow that down a bit. slowing down detox by eating chili or pizza is probably less healthy than doing it with a little stir fry so make wise choices.
