Hi all...I'm 45 from Oregon, married for 24 yrs to an awesome man who's trying to understand why raw vegan. I've shown him the "Meet Your Meat" CD, etc. My 17 yr-old son thinks I've lost my mind, but then most teenagers think their parents are just functional morons, right? We've all been eating sorta SAD except I've been introducing organic, more veggies, some juicing, less meat, flour, sugar, processed foods for several years. For me, this is the next logical step since I've been tired and sore/achy (creaking!) getting increasingly worse. I'm going slowly with green smoothies for breakfast, more salads & fruit with less and less cooked food at dinner (for me, not asking anyone else to eat this way), and just started green smoothies this week, which both my hub and son like! Woohoo! I'd say I've been actually eating more raw (as opposed to just reading about it) for about 2 1/2 weeks. I fluctuate between less and more energy, but I have a busy job as a nurse M-F with on-call hours thrown in there. Haven't seen any weight loss yet. Exercising by rebounding and yoga, walking home from work (it's only 6 blocks!). I haven't gotten Alissa's book yet, still reading some others, but I will soon.
Grateful this site exists, eager to see what other people are doing and how they feel while eating raw. Amazed at how information somehow appears when you are ready for it!
Thanks to all!

ConnieAnn,

Welcome........

I, too, am new to this site.

I am 49 and my 22 year old son still lives with me. Although he is not eating the way I am, in the past several months he has embraced some changes in his own food choices. He has mostly eliminated all white products, is choosing healthier meats, reducing sugar, fewer processed foods, preservatives, colorings, etc.

What I love about it is that he is getting quite an education on healthy eating by seeing my choices; and we have had some great conversations about what it means to truly eat healthy, not what we are brainwashed into thinking is healthy by the mass media.

What is the "Meet your Meat" CD? I haven't heard of it.

I like your comment about "functional morons." My kids probably viewed me that way until about the time they got out of their teens.

Wish you and your family much success!!!

Linda

Excited to have you here....hope you get to Alissa's book and DVD because the way she puts things is just so down to earth unlike some raw books that really seem way out there. She really is informative to the why's of raw food and their benefits. Good Luck!

Hi ConnieAnn!
Where in Oregon do you live? I'm in Sandy and so far haven't met any raw fooders in my area. Welcome to the site!

Hi ConnieAnn! Welcome!! Sounds like you are one busy lady!! Oh, I would LOVE to be in Oregon!

Your body has a priority lists of sorts, and weight loss may be 3rd or 4th down the list. Trust that things are being healed, and corrected internally right now & the weight loss will come along soon!!

Love what you said about functioning morons, so true! LOL!

Hopefully, you will set a wonderful example for your son & hubby though. It sure sounds like you are on the right track!!
