dare i say it?
will i be lynched? :(
no disrespect to the original recipe or RP!
LOL
OK, lets just call them "different" :D
found this out by accident, as i ran out of dates & accidentally put toomuch cocoa in, hubby said "wow, these are better" "even more like REAL brownies"!

this recipe is DOUBLED as one batch isn't enough around here!

1 C Medjoul dates
1 C raisins
2 C walnuts
1/2 C. cocoa,cacao..what ever it is you use!
splash of vanilla(or scrape of vanilla pod) & dash of salt.

now after these are processed & set, make sure you cut into squares & seperate in the dish...meaning letting air around the full surface of the brownie...this helps fry them a bit,& makes a firmer brownie.

I also made some of "I am the Top" from Cafe Gratitudes book, & spraed on top.....oh my,MY! fluffy vanilla frosting!!!

is it necessary to use a springform pan for these recipes, as rp's recipe states?

Hi. MMM, they sound good.
So, what was the recipe of the one without dates?
This recipe includes date.

I'm confused. ???

perhaps she meant she didn't have 2 cups of dates and thus used 1 cup of raisins

oh, yes, sorry! i made a batch, put in 1/2(!) a cup of cocoa instead of 1/4....didn't have enough dates to stretch it to a double batch....so i added raisins & wow...yummy!
i make mine in a square pyrex, then just score with a knife. they come out easily & then you can square them back up with your fingers.

I have made RP brownies with raisins before. I don't use dates often, but have gobs of them around. Actually I am staying away from these type of goodies. I'm finally melting off my pounds by eating few nuts and working with a trainer at the gym. I eat super simple too--salads without nutty dressings. Rawlucks are also about salads to me and I let the others enjoy the nutty stuff or dressings.

Thanks for all of you sharing. We can always enjoy variety in our recipes. It's great this subject was started. I used to love making this recipe as I found it super quick and simple, besides rich and delish! When people call me skinny, first I have ever heard that one, I gotta keep my image as before I was up to my highest weight. I hadn't been on scale for tons of years so was shocked. Now I have about 15 pounds to go. I already look different with 31 pounds off. For me the trainer was the primary key not so much the food.

I add some cut walnuts in the mixture a and few drops of rum essence!
Another version - add orange zest.
Press firmly in the form ( i use glass) put in the fridge for an hour, cut in squares and place in the fridge again - it develops some "crust"

Tropigal thanks for posting this!

I'm not a huge fan of raisins, but I did make the original version with the vanilla and salt and it is divine!!! I do think you have improved the unimprovable. ;)

I nibbled on one for breakfast with fresh strawberries. Mmmmmm!!!!

I put the mixture into an 8x8 pan and cut into 16 squares. To me this is the perfect amount, "treat" size, although my husband thinks they should be made Larabar size.

I just put it on a plate; form it any way I want and it's done.

I usually do this too and it is fun to make it into a heart shape! My sweetie thinks this is fun too, put on some icing and sprinkle with some coconut or cocoa powder it is extra pretty too! Put some strawberries or raspberries around the outer edge, now I'll have to make one today as I'm making myself hungry!

Thanks for posting this! I made your new version last night and sprinkled them with fresh grated coconut and they were super good!

I left the remaining brownies on the plate in the fridge and when I woke up this morning a few minutes after my 3 yr. old he proudly greeted me with "I ate three brownies, mommy! I left some for you!"
