I am thinking about trying the master cleanse and I did read the free online version of the book, but I don't think it explained the plan very clearly. I know some of my questions have been asked on here before but I couldn't find the info in a quick search.
I wanted to make sure how much of each of the ingredients are required for each cup of lemonade. (I think the ingredients are: lemon, cayenne, maple syrup). Is maple syrup really the best sweetener to use, if not, what else is good? I have some raw agave and yacon syrup. How long does it last if you make it ahead and put it in a bottle to take with you? Would it need to be kept in a cooler?
Also, how much salt is needed for the salt water flush? Can Himalayan Crystal salt be used or does it have to be the Celtic sea salt? If I understood this correctly, laxative tea should be used each am and pm then if that's not enough you take the swf?

I am wondering if there is a way to modify this cleanse for hypoglycemia (I have the non-reactive type, meaning I do not get low blood sugar as an after-effect of eating sugar, but rather when I don't eat enough sugar)? I normally need to eat every 2 hours, but when I have just juice with no fiber or protein I need to eat or drink almost constantly to keep my blood sugar up. This problem is worst in the morning when I first wake up. I need a huge breakfast to feel okay, but smaller meals work fine for the rest of the day. I was thinking of maybe having fruit in the morning and the MC drink for the rest of the day, but would that interfere with the cleansing since it would be like breaking the fast each day?

------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry this is so long, but hopefully I can get some answers. My health has been worse than ever lately and I am desperate to feel better. I am just seeking some advice. I have tried making small changes in my life but they don't make any difference in how I feel short-term. It is hard to stay patient waiting for results that may never come. I have also tried making dramatic changes but they also had very little immediate effect and it was too hard to maintain that level of effort. I usually overeat when I am stressed (all the time lately) and I have a hard time controlling my appetite. I read a lot of posts where people did the MC right from a very SAD diet and had dramatic improvements in health. Is willpower all it takes to complete a long fast? I haven't done any fasting recently, but last year I did a 10 day (bottled) juice fast modified with some bananas for the hypoglycemia. I actually had great results, but it was extremely difficult. I don't like the idea of feeling very weak for a long time, but from what I read it sounds like it might be best to plan to stay in and rest a lot for the first week or so and then some energy starts to return as the body switches to burning toxins stored in the fat cells for fuel? Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hi Dani, I highly recommend you read Tom Woloshyn's The Complete Master Cleanse. He studied with Burroughs and has updated the original version with this very easy to read and humorous new edition.

Answer to some of your questions...

Use uniodized sea salt for the salt water flush

MC heals most imbalances, especially related to blood sugar levels. You get a total healing if you believe it.

This is the key...you gotta believe.

I can't help you with the hypoglycemia part.

WHat I would do is make it by the gallons. for a gallon you would need 100 oz of water A hair less than 10oz of preferably grade b orgainic maple syrup and a hair more than 10 oz of preferebly orgainic lemon juice and the correct measurements of the cayenne pepper would be would be 1 & 2/10 teaspoons but since I don't know what 2/10ths is I use one full teaspoon and then 1/4 teaspoon but this may be too spicy for you. you can also add lemon zest if your lemons are orgainic
I don't think you want to mess around with substituting the maple syrup because this is the main source of nutrition you will be getting during the fast.

I believe the salt is in the morning and its two tablespoons of salt for 32 oz of water. IT MAY MAKE YOU THROW UP! ITS HORRIBLE AT FIRST! At night is the gentle herbal laxative tea I use to use the yogi brand. If you can't learn to tolerate the salt then you can use the tea morning and night. I used two bags per 1 cup to get things moving.

there is a certain way you come off of it. I believe you drink orange juice the first day I can't tell you the rest but you eat pretty light for the next three days. My recommendation is to make sure you are eating raw when coming off this cleanse. you will be really depressed losing all that weight and gaining it all back. this is exactly what happened to me.

you can adjust the amounts of maple syrup or cayenne pepper if you feel you need to but you can not adjust the amount of lemon juce or water. The correct amount to drink is between 60oz -120 oz a day. That is between a half gallon and a whole gallon a day. I never needed more than half a gallon myself.
I think its preferable to keep the juice cold. If its refrigerated I think it will last forever. It will last all day if you are carrying it around with you. Make sure you are are carrying it around with you all day. If you feel the slightest bit of hunger if you have the juice on hand it will take care of that if you don't you might be in trouble.
If you are working I would recommend just sipping enough to get you through the day during work and then drinking the majority of the minimum 60 oz after work if not you will be blowing up the bathroom at work repeatedly. So also bring lots of water to work so you won't have to drink as much juice.

finally if you want to do it per glass which I don't recommend it is two tbls of maple syrup two table spoons of lemon juice 1/10 tsp cayenne pepper or as much as you can tolerate and water filled to 10 0z. Also you can stay on the cleanse anywhere fron 10 days to thirty days.

hope this helps. Good Luck! :D

So, I've read to get the medicinal benefits of cayenne to get 90,000 heat units and I'm having a hard time locating it. Anyone else get their hands on it?

!

I'm also a hypoglycemic. Every case is probably different but the cleanse doesn't really bother me. The lemonade drink is quite satisfying and keeps me level. I did this morning have a bit of a problem after the SWF. I didn't have my lemonade drink prepared and I waited almost 6hours afterward to drink it. And my blood sugar did take a big dip. But I was so craving the drink at that time. And afterwards, I was fine.

I do have to say that I haven't struggled with my blood sugars in a very very long time (15yrs). The first time I went raw, it did the trick. I think the flush of my system and nothing to balance out the electrolytes is what brought it onw this morning.

thanks for the responses! I have a few more questions though:

*Does the first lemonade's timing affect the flush?
I read that the salt water flush is supposed to be done upon awakening in the morning and no lemonade should be taken until at least 30 minutes after. I need to have sugar (lemonade in this case, but usually fruit) first thing in the morning for my hypoglycemia or I get a headache. Should I do the flush 30 minutes after the lemonade instead?

*How much water is too much on this cleanse?
I am planning on trying to have about one gallon of the lemonade each day, plus herbal teas, plus plain water and the water in the swf. I read that you should have half of your body weight in ounces, but the amount I listed is over twice that much. I don't think it would be too hard for me to drink that much, especially if I am able to exercise. I usually drink 1.5L just for a normal yoga class.

*Can the lemonade be made the night before for the whole next day?
I read that the enzymes start to diminish as soon as you cut the lemons and that ideally it should be made fresh each time. However, that wouldn't be practical for me because I need to have at least 8 'meals' per day which is inconvenient. I like the idea of making a whole gallon the night before.

PS I tried this drink with and without the cayenne, and I feel that the cayenne makes it taste surprisingly better..what a great addition to the recipe!
