So I ordered a box of kelp noodles from the sea tangle noodle company. I had read many posts about how they have to be softened in a sauce to be palatable, but these noodles are fresh?? I wasn't expecting this, since it says they must keep refrigerated and they got lost in the mail for 1 week. Now I am worried they aren't good anymore. Though the expiry date says september, they were in transit/border crossing/lost in mail/etc for a few weeks!! I hope they are still good.
Are these the same noodles everyone has been talking about???
1 package seems like alot of noodle!

oh they are fresh. They are shelf stable.

read the faqs
also they will shrink down to a little under 1/2 that size if u prepare them properly
1. REMOVE FROM PKG
2. PUT IN STRAINER AND RINSE WITH WARM WATER, TOSS AROUND TO RINSE WELL
3. PUT IN BOWL AND SQUEEZE EITHER LEMON, NAMA SHOYU ALL OVER IT (OR BOTH) AND TOSS WITH FINGERS TO LET IT GET COATED. LET SIT 10 MIN OR SO TIL IT SHRINKS.
4. RINSE UNDER WATER AGAIN IN STRAINER IF U WANT
5. TOSS IN SAUCE
6. LET SIT FURTHER OR PUT IN DEHYDRATOR ABOUT 20 MIN TO SOFTEN
THE longer it sits, the less CRUNCH it has and the more glass noodle like it gets.
WORD OF CAUTION- It gave me HORRIBLE GAS. I've been eating them exclusively since they arrived and I kept waking myself up last night like an old dog. It is embarassingly windy. Of course, I've had 3 square meals of them for 2 days running. LOL.
They are the best EVER.
Kelp naturally helps one lose weight, regulates thyroid function, lowers chances of breast cancer, etc

no... they have a bland glass noodle taste once softened. They are all texture and no taste. What they taste like out of pkg isn't what they will taste like soaked in the sauce.

The dish I tasted that used these fabulous noodles had been soaked in nama shoyu and lemon. Yum. Now I have to either find local or order from Sea Tangle. The shipping seemed super high. I asked about 1# bag and $13ish shipping for that amount to CO. Now friend said he ordered case of the single packages individual case $33 and "included" shipping to CO. Thanks.

Guess what? Someone local ordered case, hated the first package and now selling me the other 11 for $30. I feel that is a good deal to me as I was going to order so she's not losing anything and I will have mine either tomorrow or next day. Wow.
Any suggestions on making them super tasty low calorie way? I don't like using too much oil as I am thinking weight loss still. Thanks.

My HFS sells these and I had no idea they were raw! Yeah! I always used them as a pasta substitute with cooked food. Now I'll make raw cold pasta salad!

FYI Whole Foods sells them for 2.79/bag in the refridgerator section where the Asian food and fake vegetarian meat is.

Great price. I asked our local WF to consider same, but that was just a few days out. That is a great price too.

Guess what? I picked up locally a person's "noodle" order of 11 packages she had remaining and hated. She said it was very salty. It was! It was not "kelp noodles" however, but the Mixed Sea Vegetables. I am using them in salads so not a waste, but now I want the Kelp Noodles. I suppose I may have to eventually order my own packages. This women ordered online and she obviously pushed the wrong buy now item. Oh well. Back to square one.
