It is so expensive in the health food store.
So i would appreciate the help:D
Thanks.

The way I do it is to put a pound of almonds, cashews or any other nut I fancy into the food processor, just as they are, with nothing added, then turn it on, and let it grind away for about 5 minutes. Then I turn it off and leave it for at least half an hour to cool. Then another burst of grinding, and off again to cool.
The nuts grind down and become more and more soft, until after several bursts with the food processor you've got yummy butter, as good (or better) as any you can buy. I also make tahini in this way, using sesame seeds.
It's really easy and successful. Just make sure you never let your food processor grind long enough at one time to get hot.

It seems like the stuff I've been buying lately has been bitter. I'm willing to try making my own if it's worth the effort...

Use a food processor to chop up the nuts....once you've got a fine powder, add just a tiny bit of oil, and blend until creamy. This really only works properly with an expensive food processor, though, unfortunately.

With food costs going up i have to learn to make everything i can.
1 jar at the health food store cost $10.00 plus tax and will be going up soon.
I can't wait to make my own:D

Possibly due to the explosive carcinogenic chemicals now sprayed on all US grown almonds.
I make my own nut butters also: Put wanted nut(s) in food processor and process. I never add any oil, it's not needed if you wait long enough, it will eventually form butter. Also be very careful as the friction WILL cook your butter if you let it run for even just 2-3 minutes in a row, I cooked my first batch to death, it was HOT. Now I check the temp every minute or so and let it cool for a while before processing more.

Does this taste different than what I make in my Champion? which, by the way, never tastes as good as what I can buy=( but it is much cheaper and I use it mostly for making raw candy and sauces.
Tha champion gets really hot too, I have to really watch it.

I never thought that you could make nut butters without using oil, do you soak the nuts first?
I no longer have to be a slave to my healthfood store:D and it will be fresh and not from a jar.
Thanks again.

This is just my personal preference, but when I compare the nut butters I make in my food processor and the ones I make in my Champion, I love the Champion produced ones soooo much better. From the flavor to the consistency, but again that might just be me.
The Champion makes them so perfectly and quickly too, but yes you do have to watch the heat generated during the grinding process.
I made almond and cashew butter a few days ago, yum!

I have to add oil or I will kill my food processor by running it that long...it's really cheap! But it's all I can afford. I already killed a food processor...two actually...the first after a year, the second after 2 weeks of its purchase! But the second one was on warranty, so I have been being more careful with its (free) replacement, and it's lasting so far.

hey y'all--if you have a coffee grinder, try powdering the nuts or seeds in the coffee grinder first. the coffee grinder powders them in no time, much better than the FP, then dump them in the FP to continue processing. it cuts down alot on the processing time in the FP and it may extend the life of your FP. Coffee grinders are made for grinding hard stuff like that, plus it seems to do a better job; more confined space, sharper, smaller, faster-spinning blades or something

I like to make mine with 1 cup almonds and 1 cup cashews because it tends to turn to butter quicker when you add the cashews. It still has the almond butter taste though. I do mine in the food processor.
