I'm flying in and would love to take some friends out for dinner. Does anyone know if there is a raw restaurant there?

I only wish I were going to Boston instead...looking forward to it Alissa! :D

I have never been there, unfortunately. But I believe Cafe Gratitude and Roxanne's are some...I would love to hear of others as I am visiting Berkeley in a little over three weeks :D

Hi Maraw,

We have a few here. Cafe Gratitude is the main one and my favorite. There are two in the city: one in SoMa on Harrison at 20th and also one in the Sunset District on Irving and 9th. I love the 9th and Irving one on a nice day as it has a great sun room you can eat in and a garden out back - but it's all rainy here. The other restaurant in the city is Alive. It's teeny tiny and a bit more upscale. It's pricier with fewer choices on the menu. I go for the desserts.

Another fun option is Pena Pachamana. It's a bolivian restaurant in North Beach. Not all vegetarian even but the owners are 100% raw and have pizza, lasagna, tapas and coconut creme pie on the menu now - and live music every night that is very fun.

Enjoy your visit! Feel free to e-mail me if you want a couple more raw friendly options or need to know anything.

Golly! It sounds like SF is the place to be for RAW. I was in Berkele (where I grew up ) in December and ate the meal of a lifetime at the Gratitude Cafe there! I wish I could go back, but the next time I'm in the Bay Area, I'll try to get to some of these great sounding SF options!

Just to make this more complete for others that might be looking for places in SF, I thought I'd add a couple more options. The ones listed above are my fave, but here are some other choices:

Judahlicious out near the beach in the sunset is almost completely raw. Their food is so so, but occasionally they have this kick *ss raw vegan softserve made from hemp milk. I have only been lucky enough to have it once - they seriously hardly ever make it. Def. call ahead if you're going for soft serve. Very teeny tiny, super casual place.

Another fave place of mine is Lettuce in the Marina. They don't have a ton of raw options - but they do have an awesome salad filled with all sorts of veggies that is all raw with a raw dressing. It is a good healthy place to go with others that aren't raw or vegan. Half the menu is vegan, also serves chicken and fish. And they have raw cheesecake for dessert.

Millennium is a high end vegan restaurant. Think white table cloth. They will prepare a raw meal if you call in advance.

Ok, I think that's all I can think of for now. :)
