Getting book published???

For those of you with experience, how do you go about getting a recipe book (or any other book) published? I haven't the slightest clue and my friends who don't know much have split between telling me to self-pub or find a publisher (neither of which I know anything about). Advice, please!! Thanks!

I have friends who publish through http://www.lulu.com and http://www.iuniverse.com. I would suggest signing up as a member (no cost to you) and reading the community posts. You can even have your book listed on amazon.com through them....
