First, I live in the Philippines, so support is a little hard to come by…
I have one of the first models of Vitamix. A week or so ago the rubber like coupling that hooks the motor to the bottom of the blade came unbonded (unglued?) from the bottom of the blade.
Any ideas on what to use to reglue this? All the power of the motor is transferred through this coupling to the blade.
Anyone know what Vitamix originally used?

Money is no problem ... I have none!

Do get in touch with them, they should send you the part you need especially if it is just a band. They will also BUY your old Metal Machine...

Email... what a good idea - really... must be toxins still leaving my brain since I started eating raw food!
30 years, that's about right. bought it at the LA county fair I think. Stainless steel; metal canister, exactly!

Only if they ship me a new one. Being in the Philippines shipping is a huge cost.
I do plan to search for their site when the Internet is working better. The weather effects it badly here.

wow, i called them & they give a $75 credit towards a new one for the older machines!
they have very few parts available for those old machines.
although we were able to get the rubber gasket for the lid about a year ago though the company.

yeah, my mom has one of those metal canister ones too...at least 30 years old. DEFINITELY on its last legs though; i took it to school last year thinking it was so cool i finally had a vitamix....but my 10.00 blender does a better job blending now than that thing does...try finding unblended stems in your smoothies...,not very smooth ;) ah well, 30 years, guess i gotta cut the thing a break :) the metal cannister is finally rusting through the bottom too, so it leaks....

I can tell you that being raw in the Philippines is no piece of cake!
(Or anywhere else for that matter!).
For me, it is a matter if raw by design. I got to the point last year that I made up my my mind. Believe me, I slipped into (sometimes slid or even jumped) on a lot of "Healthy Eating" plans for a few decades. (The reason I have a thirty year old vita-mix!)
Some helped, some hurt. Some paid no attention to my needs at all.
I was "Eating healthy" (dead food) and one day I helping my kids with their Bible verses for school (obviously not America!) and this verse just leaped out at me...
(1 Cor 6:19-20 NASB) Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? {20} For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.
Now I am not going to preach at you, so don't worry. But it did start me thinking about a METHOD or reason (there are at least 3 or 4 in there alone!).
It struck me that if I was first made and then bought with a price to "glorify God in your body..." That I must have everything I need to do this!
I started thinking how I was made. I thought about a lion or tiger. They have huge sharp claws, powerful jaws and teeth and if they saw a cow in a field they would have no problem killing it and eating it. Then I thought about me. If using only what I was created with, could I do that? Gee, I do not think I could even kill a cow with my bare hands! Even if I managed that, could I bite into its Hide? Nope!
I reasoned that maybe that wasn't the food I should be eating. In fact, the book of Beginnings (Genesis in Hebrew) talks about fruits and veggies! So I started thinking that maybe I should eat what I could eat with my hands!
Now don't think I am crude or stupid, just because I can doesn't mean I do!
I still use knives to cut up what I eat and prepare it so it is appealing to me. What I am thinking is like this, I could take a mango or banana or apple and smash it with my hands or cut it with my teeth. So a mango, banana apple smoothee is a fine idea!
I have read about people making oil out of olives and coconuts with nothing more that their hands or feet or a flat rock. I buy cold pressed olive oil, but here is where it gets really hard in the Philippines. I cannot tell you if it is really cold processed or just cold pressed! In time, if I can't find a sure source, I will learn how to make my own from all the coconuts here! (The Philippines exports more coconut oil than any country on earth!)
Just like we now process our own cacao beens, (nuts?). Wonderful stuff - it really helps with my Blood Pressure! I still take supplements - try to get healthy ones but sometimes compromise. The Philippines is vitamin C poor, and I do very badly without it, so my Sodium Adsorbate is likely my biggest compromise. Although, I have heard of a company in Manila making Sodium Adsorbate from a local acid orange citrus fruit at low temperatures (104 or less). Currently I am eating as much of that fruit fresh as I can stand.
If you want to know my secret it is to start this everyday. It is a Beginning. Every day, every meal, you have a new beginning. Living on raw food or living food as we call it, is a wonderful life. It just takes a little bit to get use to it. I just make every meal a new beginning, a new Genesis with my Veggies - a Veg-Genesis.
Maybe in 5-10 years I will be an expert. For now I just work with the knowledge and ability that I have and try to add to that. The internet is very helpful. After I move I hope to try to make a dehydrator. Perhaps the solar type since we have an abundance of supply!
One other tip I would give to anyone, do this because it is FUN! My wife has made us very fancy and elegant meals of raw food and simple, slice it yourself potlucks! She put out a spread for my birthday that would make any mouth water with delight! She took slices of Packwan (round watermelon) and cutout heart shaped pieces and put then next to some Philippines roses and a candle to blow out too! Have fun... When you take your pick nick to the beach, share the wealth!
Pardon the pun but, there are a lot of people dying out there! Most often because we do not offer our help and advice!
We do NOT preach Genesisim or Raw Food Itis or Living Food (although I laugh when my kids point out some pour animal that got killed on the highway and say, "Dead Food!" However, I am in awe about how many people will want more information if I just offer something out of human friendship. Total strangers will tell you their life history and how they have been thinking about how there must be a healthier way to life! A better way to eat!
So have fun with your raw food and enjoy your life. Doing this in the Philippines my be many times harder that in the states, but believe me, it is well worth it!

Thanks for the offer run4raw. I am going to pass, the shipping cost alone would make this not worth it (about $15-20 dollars per 400 grams).
Things have gotten better! I was given a little smoothy maker. It is a pretty nice personal blender and I plan to save up for a new Vitamix. There is a Vitamix dealer listed in Manila, but only sells new units and no old unit parts. I plan to let my friend have a go at rebounding the gear thing. And start saving the money for a new one.
I was thinking that there may be a number of others that may be interested. Either to use, or to use for the trade-in value.
Tropigal pointed out they give $75 discount for the old ones!
Thanks for the offer...

VeGenesis--I know shipping is expensive, and I know you said VitaMix doesnt have any of the old parts anymore. But what about searching the listings or posting a wanted ad on ebay or some raw foods/healthy foods websites or classifieds asking for just the part that you need (assuming that its small/light). there may be other people out there with the same old blender sitting around, broken, that may be happy to sell you the part off of theirs...?...
just a thought.
sounds like you need a new one eventually anyway, like i said, my mom has an old stainless steel one too and hers is definitely outdated and getting kinda dull-bladed, but she still uses it sometimes. i prefer not to because i dont like chunky, stringy smoothies. vitamixes last a long time but not forever.
