Hi all! Today is the first day of my raw food journey. I have 100 pounds that I need to lose. I have type 2 Diabetes, and in remission from Uterine Cancer. I have been overweight my whole life practically.. Trying EVERY diet out there. I was one of those people that would sit and watch The Richard Simmons Show instead of participating.. lol I've been on Weight Watchers, Optifast, Nutrisystem. You name it, I was on it.. I have lost weight.. 50 pounds in like 9 months, but I really need to be healthier. I live in a house with lots of roommates who like to cook food. So, I am hoping that my raw food journey will be an inspiration to them.. :D I am a 37 year old female, who is 5'11. So I know that this 100 pound loss will be beneficial for my health, as well as it will finally get rid of my Diabetes. So, any advice, knowledge, and/or warnings you have for me, please let me know.. Thanks again! Jules..

Hello and welcome!
Looks like we have a lot in common! Today is my first day - I need to lose 100 lbs. - I have diabetes that runs in my family and I live with people that will not even give raw foods a thought.

It's a bit overwhelming, but I think we can do it! :)

I'm in my 4th week of raw with a goal of 90 pounds to loose. Just so you know, the beginning is hard. I'm struggling with the detox part, but knowing that it is all the nasty toxins that I'm getting rid of really helps me keep going. I've been very tired (take naps if you can) and have flu like symptoms now after a deep massage that released lots of toxins out of my fat cells. I haven't felt great these last few weeks but I know this will pass once the poisons are gone. Knowing that keeps me going.

Some things I've learned so far...
Spend the money and get the equipment and raw foods you need. This is a way of life, hopefully for the rest of your life, so don't skimp.

I loved sweets all my life. I didn't honestly think I could be without my desserts. In the beginning I made lots of raw desserts and was thankful for those recipes. But now I don't crave them like I did.

Let your roommates try the things that turn out good but don't force them to eat your way or try to talk them into it. When they see you tired or sick the first month, they may say what my husband says "it's all that food you're eating making you this way". I just smile and say "yes it is". He's a white bread, cookies and milk, chips and dip to survive carnivore. I will never convince him so I'm not even going to try. But the people at work and my 10 year old son are all intrigued so I let them sample some recipes. Once I start feeling and looking great, they will probably get on board too.

Drink the green smoothies. I went to a class about raw food and she recommended drinking them everyday. Most people on this website advise drinking them too. Greens are very important to this way of eating and a green smoothie is a great way to get them. I use about 1/3 bag of spinach, 2 cups cold water, a banana (important), and then some other fruit like mango, pineapple, pear or orange. Stay away from red fruits in this because the final color is just not appetizing! Everyone makes them different so just find what you like.

Variety is important! At least in the beginning, it's easy to get board or think "what do I eat today". That's never a good place to be because it's too easy to give in to the smell of SAD food when you just don't know what to eat raw. This way of eating takes little time to prepare the food but lots of planning. Nuts need to be soaked (makes them healthier and easier to digest) or things need to be dehydrated and can't be eaten until the next day. So prepare your menu in advance if you can so that you will always have good raw food available to you.

And last, stick with it. From what I've read, the people having the hardest time with this lifestyle are the ones that "cheat". They seem to struggle with cravings more.

Hope this helps. I'm still new to this too but I'm committed to it.

Also, check out Morn's website. She posts on this site but also has her own website where she recordered her journey to lose 100 pounds by eating raw. I found it inspiring!

Jules, positivity is flowing in every word you typed and no doubt you'll accomplish what you're setting out to do. I have healed myself from a devastating trauma switching to the raw food lifestyle and have been raw for almost a year. The benefits are still appearing...beyond weight and good health. I wish you the best as you begin your journey.

Many blessings of good health, peace and prosperity,
Crystal

I need to release about 80lbs, so I hear you. But eating raw is about so much more than losing weight; it's about gaining ultimate health. Always remember why you're doing this. This way of eating offers so much more than any other. Make smaller goals for yourself, like "I want to release 10lbs this month" or something like that. Also, purchase Alissa's book if you haven't already and don't hesitate to ask as many questions as you like.

All the best,

Francesca :)
