Hello to all and thank you Alissa for this forum!!!

I just started (today) taking the steps to a raw foods diet. I have about 100lbs. I need to lose and a healthy lifestyle to gain! I have a couple friends who eat about 70% raw, but as far as family...I'm the only one interested.

Any suggestions on how to make it through smelling their hot-cooked meals and cheesy dishes? I'm drooling just thinking about it!

Thanks!

baby steps baby steps baby steps!!!....i am new at this too....and I am not 100% raw *yet*!!! But in my start...I have learned that journaling absolutely helps...and start small...and don't beat yourself up. I started out by borrowing a juicer and just learning the ropes behind that...once you start juicing regularly you start to get a taste for better foods and learning how to turn the foods you love into better raw versions!...I don't know...do whats right for you...you are off to a good start!!!!

I was looking at juicers last night, but wasn't sure what to get. I kinda would something that does it all (does that exist?). Something that would juice, puree, blend, chop, etc.

I made myself a green smoothie this morning and didn't have a problem with that, but I am not looking forward to the smell of dinner tonight. Yikes.

Thanks for the tips....I need em!:)

Also, I don't know a whole lot about eating raw yet....

What about tea and is there any kind of dairy that I can have?

Burn incense
meditate
and get something else to do

EVALUATE wether or not your consumption has been for fuel, habit, out of addiction or is it your god then identify what relationship[ you'd like to have with food.

Good Luck:D

Off to go follow my own advice:eek:

i do a few things when the house smells yummy from cooked foods. i either have a bath until they are done. relaxing and meditating in the tub. i go for a walk or to the gym to work out... so i'm out of the house... or i go off to a friend's house for tea.

if i'm here and they are eating... and i don't have anything to do, anywhere to go... then i try to make myself something really yummy as well. so i'm not wanting their food.

you can have tea... green tea is good for ya. no dairy at all.

I know how you feel. I would suggest you get out of the kitchen when your family is cooking and make sure they clean up their leftovers. If you have to cook for them eat before you cook so you will be full. In time when you get into the groove it will become more of a habit and less of an issue. Keep focused on your goals (write them down), and don't forget to take measurements!. THere is more than one way to see weightloss.

17 months ago I am where you are now and I am working on the last 10. Best wishes to you!

WELCOME! Your cravings for cooked foods will probably lessen as you start to feel the wonderful effects of living foods. Make sure you always have plenty of things to eat. I find that temptation happens when I don't plan or take food with me. Best Wishes to you!!!!!

Welcome to RFT :)

Find some raw foods that you like and are very quick to prepare, like peeling a banana or pulling some grapes off of a cluster, and make sure to keep them handy at all times including when you leave home. I always put a couple of avocados in my glove box where I keep a small pocket knife to prepare them and also keep in mind that every store on your way with a produce dept has raw foods to eat including apples.

I also find Morn's posts and blog very inspirational and a testament to what raw foods and persistence in following one's dreams can accomplish. Have a successful and rewarding journey.

I think there are plenty of juicers out there that do do everything...but you pay for it...in the longrun the investment is a good one. From my minimal reseach the Green Power juicer has every attachment you can think of! Even a pasta maker! But we aren't ready for the $300-$600 just yet! I started out by borrowing a friends little Oster and then my husband got me the Jack Lalane Power Juicer...for me it works! I am hoping for a dehydrator next but dh isn't sold on that just yet...again Baby steps!!! Hang in there!!!!

I recommend a masticating juicer. I have an Omega 8005. Roomie has an Omega 8003. They are both the same, except mine is prettier.

Anyways, you can juice anything with it. Even any kind of greens. Plus, its supposed to produce healthier juice, and more of it than a cheap juicer. Its also supposed to be a seasoning mincer and chopper, a fish and meat mincer, and a food mill. But to be honest, I don't know what all that stuff even means.

Plus it takes very little time to take it apart, clean it, and put it back together. I don't know about you, but I would become very tired of a juicer very fast, if it took forever to clean it.

Anyways, it's good to me, and I recommend it. Costs more than 200 brand new though.

Good luck to you. :)

Welcome Arual, nice to meet you!! :D It must be tough to stay focused with the tempting smells around. We're here to support you though!! I love the ideas you've been given so far, like a bath, the gym.

I still drink herbal teas, but I do warm brewing, so it's nowhere near hot. To me, that just wouldn't be raw. But others feel differently.

No dairy, raw vegan is the way to go! We do consume raw honey, some vegans don't because they don't agree with eating it for ethical reasons. I only eat my family's honey. My aunt. uncle & cousins are near me and they're beekeepers. I don't have any issue with that.

Best wishes on your raw journey!! You can do it!;)
