Man, it's hard to get back on the raw track once you fall off of it!! Like just last week.. I ate cooked Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday I was very well back on track, and boy did I feel detoxing or what! My stomach was aching so much and I felt myself kinda dizzy or anyway just very weird. Well, my Saturday started off very well, and I was OK with the alcoholic drinks too, but then late at home I ate cooked again.. stupid me.. And on Sunday the story continued. Yesterday I was raw, today ate cooked again.

It's just that.. I don't know.. I've been thinking about this raw thing all over. I know it IS the best and most natural way for you to eat, but still, Í've been thinking whether it's really the best option for me. You see, in August I'm leaving to Switzerland - I'm going to be an au pair there for a year and I've been thinking about my possibilities eating raw there. It's so much simpler when I live at home and can buy my own food and grow my own food. .but how would the family in Switzerland take my raw eating?

And you know, people are by nature so lazy! It would be sooooo easy just to eat dairy products and so on... I think so too. It would be so easy just to go to a supermarket and grab a yoghurt or something.
It's like.. there's two persons in my head - the other says to eat raw because it would be the best way and the other says like.. who cares, it's so much easier if you don't bother yourself with silly things like raw eating..

I don't know what I'm writing.. I hope you can get at least something out of my text!

Before eating cooked last Wednesday I had just been two weeks raw and I felt so great! I feel so frustrated at myself - why did I have to go and ruin everything???

Maybe I'm not that inspired to go raw, because I don't have any disease or something like that to motivate me well enough.. I don't know what to do. I've been thinking about these thoughts over and over again, day after day.. and I don't know what to do. I know I could maybe go raw only about 50 % or something, but I'm the kind of type who.. takes all or nothing..

I know I have to make the decision in the end. But maybe you could share your thoughts about my situation with me?

Holly, I don't have an answer for you. Perhaps while living in Switzerland (how exciting) you can choose to eat a large % raw. You can easily explain to whomever, that you just want to eat healthy! In the meantime, just because you choose to eat cooked foods, does not mean you need to all the time. After eating a cooked meal, just make sure your next meal is uncooked!

I am not saying this to be so easy! Don't get me wrong, it's just something alot of people here have had to deal with. You are not alone. Just keep chugging away at living a raw food lifestyle.

Hope this helps.

well holly ,

It seems that there is some wrong wiring in your logic , of course thats human nature too :p !

like when you say "I could just go get a yoghurt from the store" , well you could grab a few peices of fruit instead . You know , when you look at grabbing a bannana or eating a cabbage wrap as easy (i.e. no cooking req. , already wrapped , no utensils needed) it makes more sense than cooked.

Holly,

For what purpose did you choose to go raw in the first place?

Are those reasons still important to you?

If they are, then keep focusing on them.

If they are not, don't beat yourself up, just do what "feels' right.

If you are wavering, please realize that it is the "cooked food addict" in you that is giving you all those convincing reasons why you should eat cooked.

Remember how wonderful you felt eating all raw? Remember how much energy you had? Remember how easy it was to grab an apple or a banana, or a bunch of grapes?

Well, grabbing a yogurt of all things is NOT easy, it must be refridgerated, you have to eat it with a spoon, you need to wash, dry and store the spoon, you need to throw away the container of yogurt and then it stays in the land fill for a decade or so, and that is after someone in a big dirty deisel truck comes and picks it up.

So, YOU decide which is easier. and which you are going to do.

It isn't easy, no one said it would be. It isn't hard either, it simply is.

and HOPEFULLY, it is something that you are chosing to do for YOU.

Good luck on all of your choices,
Rawpriestess

Hi!

Thanks for all of you for your answers. :)

I've decided to do, what feels the best for me. Today I've been mostly raw, but I did have a caffe latte, and a wheat roll. I'm not going to punish myself for those. I will take things slowly. Hopefully someday I can transfer to 100 % raw again but now I think I need to take things more slower.

I will be eating mainly raw, like today I had some delicious cabbage-tortillas, filled with salad, tomatoes, spinach and cashew nuts, They're so delicious!

I almost gave in to yoghurt today, but when I was looking at the different kinds of yoghurts.. it didn't feel right. I just couldn't grab any of them, not even the soy kinds, because they have so much sugar in them too. So, instead I bought some strawberries and nectarines. That was my breakfast. :)

I need to.. kind of feel free what to do. If this thing becomes like a second religion or something like that I don't feel that free any more and I go nuts. I have to have the feeling of freedom to choose.

Just rambling..

oh , you might try blending up bananas with vanilla extract or blueberries or strawberries and make your own "yogurt" ?

I observed that if I have some cooked food, then I want more (cooked food). So, I find that it is better to avoid it. Especially in those moments when I really do not crave it, having it is really silly, because, after, it is much harder to stop. And, I hate pimples!

Analeah (from this board) was working as a nanny somewhere in Europe and kept her raw attitude at the same time. She had no problem at all with being accepted either.

Munching on fruit all day and having a salad in the evening, which is what I do, is far less time consuming then preparing and eating cooked foods. Fruit - zero preparation time. Salad - 5-10 minutes preparation time. I also make fruit pies, which take me about 5-10 minutes to prepare. Stuffed mushrom - 5 minutes. Soup - 5 minutes. There are plenty of recipes that take only minutes to prepare. Those who love preparing food, will spend more than 5 mintues doing it, of course.

Motivation, yes, I know. You are not sick, you probably do not look like an old tired granny either. But you know what, I've seen pictures of 19 year olds before and after, and even they look more beautiful and vibrant after. So, they must feel healthier too. I am 41 and I feel so grateful that I learned about raw foods (about 2 years ago). They literally rescued me from growing old and grumpy. You, being much younger than that, do not have to go through that grumpiness experience at all, because you know raw foods already! How lucky you are!

Holly,

Why not try raw until August? Also, you might try and observe how diary products affect you. When I gave up diary (long ago-although occassionally I too give in to a yogurt) I noticed that dark circles under my eyes diminished and the morning stiffles went away completely.

Holly,

my raw life is similar to yours. For example, I could've just had my pre-made raw waldorf salad but instead I chose a few cookies. Not the best choice. But I'm ok with that. I live and learn each day. And I listen to my body.

Raw is great, enjoy it and enjoy the transition. Just make it easy on yourself.

Also, try to plan ahead. That really helps.
