Permit to sell food?

I'm looking for ways to make more money, selling raw dehydrated food would be great, but I'm quite sure you need a permit.

If so then I'll almos tcertainly forget about this idea, but what does getting a permit involve?
Is there a cost? If so, forget it... unless it's really not much
Do inspectors have to come regularly?
Can this be run from home?

I'm quite sure this is not how I'll make more money but am concerned of how much the government wants to control me and how much money they want to steal from me (why even bother with inspections when 99% of products in grocery stores are loaded with cancer causing chemicals which these inspections fully allow in unlimited amounts).
