I can never remember, and I want to buy some tomorrow. Steel cut, or rolled,or what??

Hey Wendi! I don't know about steel cut oats, but I know that the basic rolled oats you buy in the health food store, or grocery store are not raw. I would tend to think that oat groats would be raw (the oat before it gets cut into "steel cut"), but again, I guess if it doesn't say raw, assume otherwise!

there's a "really raw organic flakes" in Alissa's store on this site. otherwise, i think you have to buy oat groats. I soak them for a couple of days, changing the water and rinsing them at night and in morning. when they're done soaking, i keep them in frig. They're good, just not as easy as oat flakes.

None of the oats you find at the usual health food or grocery stores are raw. Even their whole groats are steam or laser(!?) treated to "stabilize" the fats in them and prolong their shelf life. Better to mail order the fancy raw ones! Flavor and freshness with these is noticeably better than any of the others.
