I just learned about this. It's to reset your physiological button. A group of people I met are prepping to do it that I met last night in Eugene, Oregon. I really want to do it!
Go check out www.juicefeasting.com There's lots of info. What do you think?

Hey, if anybody out there is an experienced juice faster and knowledgable about juicers, do you think it's appropriate to take up a serious fast using the Champion juicer? I know it's not ideal but can I still do it without serious consequence?

I will do this.
It will be my first day juice fasting ever. I was planning to do each monday in March as my start but if there is a global movement doing it on Sat then the momentum will have to be helpfull.
Who else is in.

MOTH

I think I'm definitely in. I just need a nutmilk bag now. Any idea if Whole Foods has them?

Hi Moth,

I used a paint strainer bag that you can find at local hardwood store like Home Depot. It cost a little over 2 dollars for two pack.

Hi Stina,

I could not wait for March so i started last Saturday. My body was screaming to be clean. I have a juicer but found the instrustion on the website is much easier. I blend my veggies in a vita mixer and then strain

Fantastic! Moth, Sport and GreenJB- I'm so glad there's some interest in this. I'm getting psyched up.

I've got two friends who want to do some modified version of this that I can share their Vita-mix to do some green juices and strain them a few times a week and then use my Champion the rest of the time.

I expect this to be the biggest challenge of my life. I've had it. I want some radical change in my life and trust my Higher Power will bless me with the strength to do this.

I keep reading over the website to familiarize myself with the protocol. Uh....need to get an enema bag...

Guys, I am so sorry.
I have only just realised the length of this fast and have to admit that I am not ready for it. When I read it I thought that it was like World Vegan Day and was going to be World Fast Day. I should take more time and read things better.
It is my plan to introduce fasting gradually to my body and I want to stick with my plan as my body is the most important thing that I possess. I have never fasted in my life, not even for a day and this would be jumping in at the deep end. My plan is to do every Monday in March and then a 3 day fast in April and build up gradually. Maybe if you guys do this again next year I will be ready.
Forgive me all.

I'm drinking two to three quarts of green smoothies a day to get ready for this so my body won't be shocked going onto fasting.

Any other ideas about what to do to prep for this?

Stina

So, I'm really researching this and studying the website for it. It's starting to occur to me that this is really expensive. The protocol calls for two quarts of green juice a day and two quarts of fruit juice a day. I just made a quart of green juice (but I cheated and put in one pear:o ) and it cost me about six bucks. Holy moly. And there's the recommended list of supplements to accompany the fast. Well, feast. It's not really about the starvation mode; this juice feast provides all of the necessary nutrients and calories to run on, just minus the fiber.
But can I afford this? I'm thinking about getting some extra hours and working part-time as a caretaker with senior citizens, cheerfully assuming I won't be detoxing too hard! I could buy in bulk for a discounted price through the local health food store for produce. But I'd be pretty limited this time of year to go to my farmer friend's and get a multitude of greens for work for trade. And I'm somebody on a tight budget but also someone crazy enough to go to extremes to get what I want, or need in this case. I feel a very strong intuitive urge to do this feast.
I know 100% that I'm going to do this. I'm just praying about when.
The protocol for this juice feast is fascinating. Has anyone read the website?

SuBu

Stina--I read most of the site. Didn't find the info on the list of supplements--just that there was one. Read Angela Stokes site too. She says it costs $10-$15 per day. That's pretty steep. Usual for SAD eaters but my produce doesn't cost anywhere near that. Of course, I'm not all organic either. Just did the MC and even it was more expensive than just being raw. I'd love to do this but I'm still up in the air about it.

Stina
02-16-2008, 10:37 AM
I should mention that with the Global Juice Feast not everyone's going for the 92 days. A lot of people have committed to shorter periods.

SuBu
02-16-2008, 10:40 AM
When you read about the deep level of detox and the health benefits, it's hard not to want to do the whole 92 days. But then, if raw can do the same thing and it just take somewhat longer...
But even Angela Stokes was convinced and lost 18 lbs on it after stalling out for some time. She's sold on it but now back to raw.

I'm doing lots of prep work to get ready for this. I've been studying the other board, which is great, but also makes me realize how very user-friendly and well-organized the board is here! But anyway, I'm starting to accumulate some of the recommended supplements, enema bag and nut mylk bag for this project.
It's a huge act of faith for me to undertake this. Not only do I trust that my Higher Power will bless me with the financial resources to get through this but also with the strength and grace to tackle such an undertaking. Half the battle of this is spiritual warfare. I expect to be using the tools of prayer and meditation very seriously- along with colon hydrotherapy:D !
After talking to a wonderful woman who is a raw food chef preparing to go on this juice feast, I'm convinced the Green Star Juicer is the way to go. I'm really working on manifesting four hundred bucks to buy one from Alissa's site.
I'm a little scared!

Does it count if you just vitamix everything instead of juicing it

or is the pulp fro foods to much of a solid to count as a juice??

Yeah, they actually recommend vitamixing greens with a little water and then putting it through a nut mylk bag.

I'm in Stina! I've been wanting to go on a juice fast - er, "feast" - for a looong time... pretty much since I first heard about them. I finally just bought a juicer! It's being shipped, so I should get it in a few days.

Thanks for posting this, I had a lot of questions about fasting - such as the cost of it all - thanks for that link! It does seem expensive... but come to think of it, there are times when I spend $10-$20 a day just eating raw! (I like to spoil myself with dates and sundried tomatoes and such, and I usually only buy organic. Plus, the only grocery store near my house is really overpriced... I should start using Simon Delivers, lol!)

Anyway... I've been thinking about it, and really, it might turn out to save us money in the end... I mean, don't you think that after such a long cleansing period, you would adjust to only eating what your body truly needs? Which, in my understanding is a lot less food that what a lot of us tend to eat now. It may be a discipline to eat like that now, but I would imagine that after fasting for so long it would become second nature.

Well thanks again Stina! We'll be talkin ;)

Stina
02-19-2008, 02:57 PM
Lizzy- Bee! How delightful! Glad to hear you've been studying the link. There's a lot of info there. I'm slowly buying the supplements, or at least some of them that are recommended. I agree with you about the money thing. I'm taking this very seriously, perhaps the biggest challenge of my life. I've bitten the bullet in other departments to desperately save money to purchase the Green Star and I'm almost there.
What kind of juicer will you be using? I'm trying to upgrade from a Champion.
I checked with the local health food store and can buy veges in bulk for a 1.2 mark-up, versus the normal 1.65 for retail mark-up, so even though from a budgeting point, this is insane, I'm jumping in with the faith that the resources will continue to flow for me to accomplish this.
And on the other end of things......tee hee hee, I ordered an enema bag, very important! and arranged to get some colon hydrotherapy for only fifty bucks. I'm not supposed to tell anyone I'm getting a discount from the normal $75; the deal is I'll talk up the benefits of colonics to people as a thank you! Funny huh! I think I'll wait until the parasite cleansing part of the fast to do serious colonics. I wanna see those worms fly!
Where are you? Would you like to join my community on the global juice feast in the Eugene Oregon area?

Moderators- I've wondered if I'm pushing the limits of acceptability with this thread. If so, I understand! But thanks for the patience and tolerance. I know it's not necessarily something Alissa endorses and may or may not want on her board. So, let me know if that's the case. But thanks for letting me process here. I've checked out other raw vegan boards and decided I love this one.

I will be doing it as well. Ive been doing a lot of juicing lately to get ready for it. I did a 12 day feast a month ago. Its pretty easy to do as long as you drink enough juice. The energy is amazing. I am now totally addicted to juicing every day! Now that I juice daily I eat less and feel more energized. Green smoothies always made me feel bloated but the juice doesnt. I am looking forward to this. I will just see how far I go and stop if I feel that I need to. Best of luck to everyone!!

Awesome Jen!

I can't believe I just got a Greenstar 2000. I'm so blessed! I worked really hard to get the money to buy it. After really researching the juicers out there, I can see why it's the one Alissa sells. It's an amazing machine. I already have a Champion but to do a serious juice feast, I felt the need to upgrade. With this I can make a day's supply of juice in the morning. With the trusty old Champ, I'd need to make juice each time and drink it immediately, four times a day.
More later.

Yay! Way to go Stina :)
It is my dream to one day own a Greenstar as well... congrats!
Lol, isn't it funny how excited we get over juicers? I mean, this piece of machinery is coming in the mail and I can't stop thinking about it... I'm so stoked.
I'm just getting a cheaper Breville compact juicer - I know juice outta this oxidizes quickly, but I won't have to make any for work since the people I nanny for have the same one and I'll be able to drink the juice right away all day. Anyhoo... sounds like I have a few more things to collect before I start this process.
One thing I wanted to mention is that I'm pretty apprehensive about colonics and even enemas I think... (but maybe I could let the enema thing slide for the course of the feast.) I just have read a lot of things that point out how unnatural and potentially hazardous they are (and mostly, sounds like they're just a new-age "holistic" scam)- one example is this article: http://www.rawschool.com/colonics.htm
You might want to check it out...

Other than that, I'm pumped to do this whole-heartedly! :)

Congrats on the Greenstar Stina!!! I love mine too :) !! It is a work horse! I havent tried making juices in the vitamix yet. Has anyone here??? Do they come out tasting the same. I use my greenstar and a fine strainer. I am willing to try the vitamix if it is faster. I did just add the new Breville citrus juicer to my collection and I love it too. It makes citrus juice faster than any Ive used and theres hardly any cleanup. It takes my about 2 hrs from start to finish to make 4 qts of juice so if anyone has any time saving tips, send em this way!! Im revvvved up for this feast too. Is everyone starting on the 1st of March???

I think it's great that we can debate issues like colon hydrotherapy and all sorts of fun stuff in conjunction with healing.

A few things I've experienced with colon hydrotherapy-

-when I'd be overeating on SAD food, a colonic would rinse away the bacteria that contributed towards food cravings and it was much easier for me to get back on track with eating healthy raw food

- after getting my colon cleaned out, I'd have a very intuitive feeling to eat Raw

- I fasted for ten days last summer and every time I'd start to feel "crappy," I'd get a session of colon hydrotherapy (did it three times) and my energy would return and my mood perked up and mental state was better. I believe it was because the muqoid plaque was loosening up and contaminating the blood supply so I took care of that problem with a colonic. I can tell you for sure that was going down that tube during my fast was black and obviously old crap that had been in there for a long, long time.

- My friend, the local colon hydrotherapist, sees a lot of worms shoot down the tube. I'm not into symbiotic living with parasites- GET OUT!

Just my experience. Also, people like Angela Stokes who successfully completed the 92 day Juice Feast highly recommends a daily enema in the beginning, and I trust their experience.

Also, most of us have intestines these days like a paper mache product; it really takes some work to break up that mucoid plaque and enough people have reported at some point sitting on the toliet and pooping out black ropes. It's tough work to get it loosening and outta there but it's worth the effort to get that far into the healing process.

Anyone else wanna debate Butt issues? :D

So, I've made juice now twice with my Greenstar and just love it, but I can see why the JuiceFeasting.com board warns to give yourself 1.5 hours in the morning to do it! I don't mind. I was joking that chemotherapy would be more convenient but.................................

I'm really excited about this juice feast. I feel very strongly about it and that my intentions are solid and spiritual. It's starting to sink in about how very expensive this is going to be..:( but I really have faith my Higher Power will let this happen for me. I'm also accumulating some supplements.

Anyone else getting the recommended supplements?

i'm in, though i'm not sure for how long yet. i'd love to do the full 92 days. i did a week of juice feasting at the beginning of feb because i was so anxious to try it out... it was pretty expensive (i'm in new england) - i spent about $130 that week, just for me :/ which is double what i spend on raw groceries normally but i felt great. produce prices should start coming down in march though, and i'm going to be doing some massive bulk produce orders through my co-op.

the other thing about it that i didn't realize is the HUGE quantity of food it took to make that much juice. i was grocery shopping almost every day. lots of compost, though, so my garden should be awesome this year. definitely consider composting on the feast if you don't otherwise.

Stina, making the gallon does take a while. Gotta get to bed early on the feast to have enough time in the morning to make juice before work, nevermind getting enough sleep to help detox :p

I'm planning on using MSM (love how it makes my skin feel), hemp oil, and spirulina (i use this anyway). i have some bee pollen i might take every so often but i really don't like how it tastes.

JEN
02-25-2008, 01:56 AM
Here is what I have accumulated so far for supplements.....

E3Live (awesome energy boost or wheatgrass like affect)
I also grow my own wheatgrass
msm
Intestinal movement formula
Intestinal drawing formula
Parasite cleanse for after first 30 days
Greener grasses
hemp oil
coconut oil
theraputic enzymes (dont have the vitalzym brand yet)
cayenne (for circulation issues)

I did a 12 day feast recentley and the cost wasnt so bad

I mostly drink the same juices because I have a really hard time getting organic produce here other than the main staples....

organic baby spinach (base for all my green drinks..less than 5$ at sams for a big bag that lasts 3 days

organic romaine at walmart 2.50$ a bag w/ 3heads

2 large organic cucumbers 5$

2 heads organic celery 2.50$

bag organic apples 4$

bag organic grapefruit 4$

bag organic oranges 4$

bag lemons 3.25$

bag organic carrots 1.00$

One bag grapefruit/oranges/ 1/2 bag lemons =10.00$ for 64 oz or 2 juices

1/3 bag spinach 1.70$/ 1 bag romaine 2.50$/ 2 cucumbers 5.00$/ 2 heads celery 2.50/ a few apples and 2 lemons or a bag carrots

So 25$ a day or a little less is what it costs me here where organics are VERY expensive, in my opinion. In the spring/summer I grow my on veggies as much as possible. I also grow my own herbs and parsley is VERY inexpensive for using in green juice. I plan on using it a lot to cut back on my costs. I dont have a problem with spending 25 a day but if I did, parsley is what I would use for my green juices. Once youve been juicing for about a week all the juices taste good no matter what. Watermelon is pretty inexpensive because it yeilds a lot of juice for 1 melon and its delicious.

Woo Hoo Im ready to go!!!!

so i decided i was going to do this last week and put it out in the universe that i would like financial security to let me feast on whatever produce my body desires (not just what is cheapest) for the full 92 days...

today a good friend told me she would like to move into a spare room in my house in march, which would make up for the extra produce money AND i might be able to afford a vitamix. :D also i got backpay from work in one check today, which i knew i had coming but didn't realize the amount... its almost EXACTLY what i projected i would be spending on 92 days worth of produce. everything is lining up perfectly! i just put a very clear intention out there: "this week i will manifest financial security for the duration of my feasting experience". so anyone who really wants to do this (or anything) but is uncertain for whatever reason about getting there, just ask for what you need and trust in it. :)

lifeAgift, they even make drink containers now with the ice stick in the middle. You put it in the freezer over night and then right into the smoothie or juice. I havent tried one but I have seen them. I carry 2 of my juices to work with me and keep them in a ziploc with 3 freezer cubes (a butterfly, a flower, and smiley face) and everyone always wants to know why I have toys in my ziploc. When I did a 12 day feast recently, it was very easy because the amount of juice does keep you full. Its just getting past the first initial day that was a bit trying. My energy level was great thru the 12 days and I work a pretty strenuous job and have a 19 yr old and 5 yr old that keep me running constantly. I felt very peaceful and calm. I am looking sooo forward to this. The cons of course is the amount of time it takes to make the juice. Im told that the vitamix and nutmylk bags will be faster than my greenstar and now that I have my Breville citrus juicer that should also save me some time as well. Either way it will be nice to have you around to keep us laughing :D !!

jen have you tried the vitamix for juicing yet? i'm thinking about getting one but i can't imagine how it would work... i've never used a vitamix before, i know they're powerful but still can't picture it. like can it make CARROT juice? i'm kind of between the vitamix and a greenstar juicer, but i think i'd definitely get more use out of the vitamix in the long run. what's the juice yield like?

"Before you embark into doing long-term fasting like this, it's important to understand these concepts and prepare yourself for an entirely new lifestyle. Some people jump into long-term fasting and are not psychologically and emotionally able to keep up with their cleaner body. They can't handle a new diet consisting of less food and it results in weight gain and/or other symptoms." http://www.rawspirit.org/juicefeasting.html

matt monarch wrote this article about juice feasting that everybody should read before starting which is on his whole efficiency theory - we need fewer calories as our bodies get cleaner and more efficient on a raw vegan diet.

i felt a little bit nervous about it before i realized that i can't possibly know how great i'm going to feel and what i'm going to want to eat after this feast, so there's no point in stressing about how differently i'll have to eat and how my lifestyle will change... my body will tell me what it needs, i'll be fine.

anyway just wanted to share that article.

Beckx I havent tried juice in the vitamix yet but Im going to tomorrow. I did watch the video in the juice feasting website and it worked well. I believe they did chop some carrots and throw them in. They pre chopped their veggies except for the greens. It said to start with a little water and celery in the bottom and blend a little, then add the other ingredients for your green juice and blend for about 10 or so seconds as not to heat the vitamix up. Pour into nut milk bag and strain. I make juice in my greenstar all the time and it is time consuming to make 2-3 qts. The vitamix looked super easy and fast. I will let you know the outcome of my experiment tomorrow.

Okay, my Fast Friends, shall we start formulating some intentions and inspirations about the fast?

I'm preparing to do this mostly for spiritual reasons. I reclaim Joy as my birthright. I'm fed-up of living in corporated-inspired fear. I'm reaching out to my Higher Power that's waiting for me.

I'm reprogramming 35 years of bad habits into good, life-affirming habits that are kind and peaceful to my body and mind and also the beautiful planet I live on. This is a deep committment to living as a raw vegan.

Any suggestions on what we should name the March fasting thread? Just Join the Global Juice Feast ? Anything more creative?

I've been drinking a lot of green smoothies to get ready but last night I ate so much banana ice cream that my tongue went numb and I was talking funny.

ps I just bought a Waring Pro Juice Extractor and I love this thing! It juices even the hardest veggies and it's very easy to clean. I mean really easy. Comes apart in 3 easy steps. The other good thing about it is you don't need to use a nutmilk bag because it really gets all of the pulp out. I LOVE THIS MACHINE. Just passing along the joy. It's $69 at BB&B...if you have your 20% coupon you get a really good deal.

Peace & good wishes for your juice feast.

yeah, it just really set in that tomorrow is our last day of solids for a while. it came so quickly! what's everyone's last meal going to be? ;)

i just discovered the joy of zucchini pasta today, had two bowls of it and two smoothies throughout the day. YUM - i know what i'm going to be dreaming about for the next 3 months. anyway i think i'm going to use up my frozen fruit in a couple big green smoothies tomorrow - got some strawberries and raspberries and cherries still kicking around. might also make a tiny brownie for breakfast to get that last cacao kick... maybe chased with some kombucha. ;) but i'm not desiring anything in particular, i think i'm going to eat my last meal in the afternoon and have a juice for dinner.

i'm excited! i felt so great on juice earlier this month, can't wait to get back there. and all the stores here are starting to carry watermelon for not too outrageous prices which i am so thrilled about. i think this feast is going to be a breeze, i can challenge any craving with, "wouldn't you rather have some watermelon juice?" :) earlier this month i could only find it at certain places.

I love your positive intentions for this fast, Stina. I'm doing it for spiritual reasons too.... to silence my ever-gabbing mind and open up to the voice of spirit and higher consciousness.

So..... I started early you guys... I got The Fasting Handbook by Jeremy Saffron from the library, and he talks about how to go into a juice fast - Day 1: Breakfast=fruit, lunch= blender soup, dinner= juice; Day 2: Bfast= juice, lunch= blender soup, dinner= juice: day 3 and on= all juice.... But I started with fruit for breakfast on thursday and then just craved juice all day. Food was not even appealing, so I just went with it... and I'm on day 2 of a full on juice fast now. And I'm loving it! I just know in my heart that I'm healing my body, mind and spirit now and I feel so good! (and is it just me, or is "rim-surfing" kind of entertaining to do?) lol, omg TMI...

So, anyway.... my positive affirmation is: "I'm healing." or "I'm healed" works for me too. And saying this in my head fills me with positive energy, and I envision the boundless physical energy and spiritual wisdom to come (I've already caught a glimpse)

As for what to name the post.... hmm.... do you have one up yet??

Good luck everyone! Much love!
